Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be stored in a plastic bowl and placed in a secure item locker at Site-19. Twice per month, the plastic bowl containing SCP-XXXX must be filled with approximately 100 milliliters of human blood. SCP-XXXX is safe to handle, but any kind of insertion that involves SCP-XXXX is to be avoided.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a ██████ brand tampon that has been removed from its standard issue plastic applicator, though it shows no signs of having ever been used. SCP-XXXX is completely impermeable to most liquids, including water, saliva, █████, and alcohol. However, SCP-XXXX is highly absorbent when put into contact with human blood, absorbing it at a rate of approximately 100 milliliters per hour. When absorbing the blood, SCP-XXXX shows no change in coloration, odor, weight, or size and keeps the appearance of a clean, unused tampon.
If more than 28 days pass where SCP-XXXX is given no human blood to absorb, SCP-XXXX starts shrinking at a rate of 1-5 % per day. This feature was discovered upon initial containment of SCP-XXXX, after it had been left in a secure item locker for a period of 63 days. SCP-XXXX's size had shrunken by approximately 80 % and its shape appeared "frizzy and shedding." When provided with 100 milliliters of blood, SCP-XXXX returned to its original size and shape over the course of one hour.
Discovery: SCP-XXXX was discovered in the body of 26-year-old Cecilie Birkvad in █████, Denmark. According to witnesses, Birkvad had complained of feeling weak the day before and had gone to bed early. When she did not exit her room the following morning and remained in there for most of the afternoon, a roommate entered the room and found Birkvad unconscious, pale, and cold to the touch. Birkvad was taken to the █████ ██████████ hospital, but expired before arrival. Cause of death was determined to be exsanguination.
SCP-XXXX was found during the autopsy of Birkvad and, because of its clean exterior and apparent lack of use, was assumed to have been inserted posthumously. SCP-XXXX was retrieved by field agents and general CLASS-A amnestics were administered on site.
