One of the handful of recovered pieces that fell with the main body of SCP-4265, measuring approximately 15 cm in length.
Item #: SCP-4265
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4265 is to be stored in a subterranean chamber with deep-freeze temperatures of approximately -160 degrees Celsius (-256 Fahrenheit). It is to be contained in a dense lead box with a thickness of 25 cm and dimensions of 5m x 5m x 5m due to it emitting excessive amounts of Beta particles. SCP-4265 itself has a mass of ████Kg. Minimal contact with SCP-4265 is mandatory. Since it is rather large, only 2 heavily suited Researcher personnel may enter the chamber at a time to to extract surface dust on SCP-4265 to take away and perform further research on. However, this procedure has a High-Risk threat level and so it has to be overseen and sanctioned by a O5 Council Member.
Description: SCP-4265 (at the time designated as 200█ AA) was detected by the European Southern Observatory on mount Cerro Paranal in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile on the 07/██/200█ orbiting Earth at a distance of 3.2 million kilometers and initial calculations suggested the object had a diameter of roughly 70 meters and was travelling at 16 Km/s. That same day, astronomers predicted a 1 in 16 chance of impact somewhere over the remote Namibian desert in south-west Africa four weeks later on the 04/██/200█. This caused a brief period of panic, because if it were to impact it would generate a blast yield of approximately 680 kilotons, equivalent to 45 times as much powerful as the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima.
On 04/██/200█ at 18:21 UTC (20:21 local time) a super-bolide was detected by the US-Military's Nuclear Explosion Detection (NED) reconnaissance satellite ████-█ entering earth's atmosphere 437 Km south of Namibia's capital, Windhoek. It exploded 24.3 Km above Earth's surface in the stratosphere, releasing an immense shockwave that easily blew down weak structures and destroyed windows within a 250 Km radius. The blast wave was almost instantly detected by seismometers around the world as it rebounded through the interior of the Earth.
Later that day, the US-Military confirmed that an object of 70 m in diameter entered the atmosphere over the Namibian desert, and that it will aide recovery efforts of the object 200█ AA. This immediately hit mainstream news, with top headlines labeling it as "The Tunguska event of the 21st century" [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunguska_event]. On the 08/██/200█ at 15:00 UTC (17:00 local time) a recovery team was sent out from a temporary US-Military post in the vicinity. The search area was focused in the Karas region, close to these coordinates: 26°30'24.63"S, 16°20'31.95"E and covered roughly 650 km2. At 16:02 UTC (18:02 local time), an extra-terrestrial rock with a diameter of 4m was found in a crater. The crater size was undefined as a recent sandstorm had blown through the area, covering much of the crater.
The recovery team start to examine the crashed rock. Shortly after, 3 members begin experiencing symptoms of moderate radiation exposure. This was confirmed after Geiger Counters were deployed and measured a considerable amount of beta particles being emitted from 200█ AA. However, the radiation levels were drastically changing with occasional high radiation 'bursts' occurring sporadically. This was baffling to even the most experienced scientists on the scene with some saying it was behaving unlike any material found on Earth; and thus, the SCP Foundation was contacted by the US government on the same day and ordered to take away the now designated SCP-4265 away for intense research. All of the recovery team were quarantined and treated at the scene, where they were immediately dispatched back to mainland US for further treatment.
Using internal imaging, SCP researchers discovered a new isotope of Uranium, named Uranium██ and it was concluded that this newly discovered material can only be found outside of Earth. As of 28/██/200█, it is now stored in Site [REDACTED] where it is stored in a subterranean chamber in a dense lead box with walls 25 cm thick undergoing tests to find out more about its properties. Currently, there are no records of the Foundation personnel being treated for radiation sickness caused by SCP-4265 and it is obliged to keep it this way.
