Item #: SCP-XXXX Eye Hourglass
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures:
- The object is to be kept within a 15m by 15m by 35m (Width, Length, Height Respectively.) Containment chamber.
- The room's walls, floor, ceiling, doors, and other entry-way must be at least ten centimeters of opaque materials. For materials with air pockets such as concrete or insulating fibers, a minimum thickness of fifteen centimeters is required and twenty centimeters is recommended.
- Images of the object are not to be created under any circumstances. This includes photographs, drawings, carvings, video feeds, sculptures, or any other representation of it.
- All reasonable methods are to be used to minimize the number of personnel of any class who see it. Reasonable methods are also to be used to reduce how often a person looks at it.
- Instances of XXXX-1 are to be stored under identical conditions except for the size of the room, it only needs to be large enough to house XXXX-1. They may not be stored together to avoid simultaneous activation.
Special Experimental Procedures:
During experiments personnel are to wear "Ocular Hydration Speculum" At all times. Eye contact with the object is to be made as few times as possible for each individuals to avoid triggering the anomaly. Personnel are to be used as few times as possible due to the anomaly's compounding nature.
Warning: Intentional and unnecessary triggering of the anomaly will be sanctioned in accordance to FAIR-73 Sub-Section B
Description:
- The object is an hourglass with a diameter of ten meters and a height of thirty meters. It is made of laminated safety glass. Acoustic measurements revealed the glass to be two centimeters thick.
- The hourglass possesses a frame which extends the length and width by twelve centimeters and the height by thirty centimeters. The frame is made of a polished, unstained, oak wood. The bases are square with right angles between each surface and between them are four columns of wood. Each base and column were carved of a single piece. Genetic testing revealed each piece to be from a different but related tree. Each base is carved with a massive stylized eye.
- The hourglass is not filled with sand but with human eyeballs. Though direct observation has been impossible they appear healthy and varied in both color and origin. The ocular nerve is severed to fit the eye perfectly. Each eye seems covered in a thin film of liquid.
Anomalous Property:
1: The object can be seen through matter until ten centimeters of material has been placed between the object and the observer. The material may not be punctured or filled with air gaps which does not count towards this separation. For partially hollow materials extra thickness is required.
2: When eye contact is made with the object two eyeballs from the top portion will fall to the lower portion. If the same person looks at the object again, including blinking, four eyeballs will fall. This number increases by two for each subsequent look. This does not seem to reset.
Note: The previous two anomalous properties are triggered by the glass and eye portion. The wood does not seem to possess any anomalous property
3: Any visual depiction of the object becomes animated and possesses all anomalous properties of XXXX. These are referred to as XXXX-1. This effect applies to all visual representation with no exception having been found. Attempts to circumvent it have proven fruitless.
4: Instances of XXXX-1 always display XXXX as it would appear when facing northward.
5: Instances of XXXX-1 each mimic XXXX perfectly. This includes changes to XXXX's orientation, frame, and glass.
Addendum:
Experimental Logs:
Test A - 08/01/2019
Subject: D Class 6038, D Class 6039, and Doctor Millan.
Procedure: Subjects were placed before a retractable panel of the containment chamber.
Results: Six eyes fell.
Analysis: The effect does not have a refractory period and may activate for an unknown maximum of simultaneous viewers. Limiting the number of viewers is important to avoid triggering it needlessly.
Test B - 12/01/2019
Subject: D Class 363, D Class 98932, D Class 1112, And Doctor Millan.
Procedure: Subjects were placed before a retractable panel of the containment chamber.
Results: Ten Eyes fell. D Class 262, D Class 9832, and D Class 1112 reported gaining sight of the objects. With D Class 262 being frightened by it while the other subjects (excluding Doctor Millan) reported a sense of glee until the panel was closed.
Analysis: Blindness does not prevent the object from being seen, it in fact is visible clearly and understandably to anyone. The fifth activation's source is unknown.
Test C - 19/01/2019
Subject: D Class 675 and Doctor Millan.
Procedure: Subject was described the Object and asked to try to replicate it in as many artistic methods as possible. Doctor Millan utilized as many imaging technologies as he could including Lidar, Sonar, Various methods of photography and filming.
Results: All replicas, regardless of method. Became identical to the original and animated while also triggering the anomalous effect.
Analysis: Replicas are to be designated XXXX-1. To be contained under identical containment and spread apart as much as possible to avoid multiple triggering. In addition Doctor Millan is no longer to serve as observer due to the relation between the activation of the anomalous effect and the number of times the viewer has activated it prior. When XXXX-1 is a 2D object such as a photograph it shows the object as seen while facing northwards.
Test D - 06/05/2019
Subject: D Class 847 and Junior Researcher Edwards.
Procedure: D Class 847 was to strike the glass with a standard twelve ounce hammer while JR Edwards was to watch from a distance while wearing OHS.
Results: The glass broke across the entire object. Over the following twenty four hours it repaired itself gradually on it's own. Effect was triggered three times due to JR Falling asleep during his watch.
Analysis: The object possesses some form of self repair. The anomalous effect does not activate if the viewer's consciousness is changed. It is safe to assume that should eye contact be broken this rule may not apply.
Test E - 08/05/2019
Subject: D Class 332, Junior Researcher Edwards
Procedure: Subject was placed before a retractable panel to a secondary containment chamber in which two instances of XXXX-1 were stored.
Results: Anomalous effect activated Six times.
Analysis: XXXX-1 Behaves identically to XXXX and should be handled as such.
