Verdun Bacteria

Seeking Greenlights: Yes (1/2)

Page Type: SCP Article

Genre (Optional): History/Horror

Page Layout (Optional): Standard with ACS

Elevator Pitch: A disease that makes you compulsively crave mud and dirt instead of normal food. It slowly kills you from malnutrition and other infections. Was a common infection in the trenches during the battle of Verdun.

Central Narrative: The early foundation trying to piece together recovered journal entries. These journal entries depict a French soldier getting infected with the disease during the battle of Verdun. They start off normal, as he is fighting in the war to prove to his father he does have a purpose in life. But after he is infected, he starts developing an addiction to mud, that progresses enough that he stops eating normal food altogether. He slowly succumbs to the disease before dying.

Hook/Attention-Grabber: Historical SCPs are interesting, and WWI is not explored much on this site.

Additional Notes: This is an extremely old idea,

Controlled Chaos

Seeking Greenlights: Yes

Page Type: SCP Article

Genre (Optional): Drama

Page Layout (Optional): Standard with ACS

Elevator Pitch: A borehole that when a foundation personnel knows of it's existence, they immediately think it is one of several different anomalies. They will continue believing this despite any evidence against it, and engage in passionate arguments with anyone who disagrees. These arguments commonly lead to violence in an attempt to prove their point.

Central Narrative: Dr. Miller gets removed from a project studying the SCP after a disagreement about what it is with his higher-up Dr. Grant. He files a complaint that gets reviewed by Agent Turner, who also has a different belief in what the SCP is. To settle their disagreement, they go the site director Agent Oliver who believes that the borehole isn't anomalous at all (due to his high memetic resistance). Since Dr. Grant and Agent Turner are already very passionate about the SCP, they get offended by this and kill him. Dr. Grant is bribed by the creators of the anomaly to abuse his security clearance to send an emergency email to almost all foundation staff containing images of the SCP. This causes the foundation to dive into chaos as the SCP's effects cause foundation-wide violence.

Hook/Attention-Grabber: The anomaly is not a threat to humanity, but more of a direct threat to the foundation. It is a metaphor for how human nature causes us to never change our views.

Additional Notes: I have most of the story worked-out in my head, but I'm not clear how to tell it. The narrative also feels wrong to me, but I am not sure why.
