Two instances of SCP-XXXX-B, found in █████, India.

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: All instances of SCP-XXXX contained by the foundation are to be collectively kept in a 5m³ Vantablack lined chamber. Photometers are to placed on each wall inside this chamber, and if they detect a lumen count exceeding 1500 per square meter, anesthesia is to be administered through vents located on the ceiling.

Description: SCP-XXXX is the designation given to a species of two dimensional organisms, further classified into groups of SCP-XXXX-A-(1-437) and SCP-XXXX-B-(1-129). These organisms have been similar in appearance to cave paintings, modern portraits, ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, and modern graffiti. Instances of SCP-XXXX have little shared traits, besides being two dimensional and having the same response (or lack thereof) to different levels of brightness. Chemical analysis has proved to be impossible difficult due to their lack of depth.

SCP-XXXX specimens are theorized to be photosynthetic in nature, as if they are in any environment with a lumen count less then ≈2700 per square meter, they become dormant. This state of dormancy renders them unable to move across two dimensional surfaces, react to stimuli, and manifest three dimensional protuberances. It is unknown how instances of SCP-XXXX are able to manifest these three dimensional protrusions, seeing as how they lack mass. Examples of these protuberances include hands, claws, and mechanical apparatus. These protuberances are identical in composition to their entirely three dimensional counterparts.

If an instance of SCP-XXXX grasps an object or organism with their three dimensional protrusion, they are able to seemingly pull it into the wall, flattening it enough to become another instance of SCP-XXXX, but of the SCP-XXXX-B subspecies. The primary difference between instances of SCP-XXXX-A and SCP-XXXX-B is primarily how they were indoctrinated to become an SCP-XXXX specimen. All examples of SCP-XXXX-A were formerly of the normal two dimensional variety, and gained these anomalous effects (presumably through anartists, therorized to be of the minor recreationist subgroup) while still being two dimensional. Instances of SCP-XXXX-B were formerly three dimensional objects and organisms who were "flattened" by an instance of SCP-XXXX.

Differences between SCP-XXXX-A and SCP-XXXX-B immediately become apparent as instances of SCP-XXXX-A are much more abstract than instances of SCP-XXXX-B. They usually resemble graffiti, abstract art, and different varieties of hieroglyphics. Instances of SCP-XXXX-B are usually more grounded in reality, resembling things such as humans, animals, and vehicles. The two subspecies tend to stick with instances of their own subspecies, with fights occasionally breaking out between the two groups, with slurs such as "three-dee" and "one's-with-depth" being particularly popular to call instances of SCP-XXXX-B.
