Special Containment Procedures: Any instance of SCP-XXXX captured by Foundation forces should be immediately detained at Containment Site-██ in a 20x20x20 meter containment cell, which should be constructed out of lead-titanium alloy, filled with saltwater, and have a 20 meter deep sand bottom in addition to the regular dimensions. In order to compensate for the reality-bending tendencies of SCP-XXXX instances, a Scranton Reality Anchor has been attached to the cell. The Anchor must be activated at all times, in order to prevent SCP-XXXX from escaping and causing a possible Site-wide containment breach.

In three-year intervals, between June and November, additional security should be installed at Containment Site-██ in order to counter the increased activity from the captured instance. In the event of an SCP-XXXX containment breach, any and all nearby MTF Units are to assist Containment Site-██ security in tracking and re-containing the instance before it reaches a a large body of water. SCP objects may be used for re-containment purposes during these containment breaches.

Description: SCP-XXXX is the designation for a collective species of dangerous, reality-bending entities whose physical appearance is as follows: a long, slender torso approximately 5-10 meters long with 4-8 legs, each of which ranges from 10 to 40 meters long. They have many small pore-like orifices on the back of their torso, the largest of which is approximately one centimeter in diameter. Skin pigment of the instances vary, usually being some sort of pale or gray tint. The only other outstanding feature is a large eye-like indent on the front of the torso, which produces an extremely luminescent light. They have a large inner cavity, whose contents are mostly unknown. There are approximately 300 recorded instances of SCP-XXXX in existence.¹ They are rarely seen outside of their "feeding period," which ranges from late summer to early autumn annually. This period of time is known to most the global population as "hurricane season." Term "hurricane season" is part of an ongoing Foundation cover-up for what is a natural cycle of SCP-XXXX instances. About 100 instances hunt at once during the feeding period, sometimes in different areas.. Overtime, a pattern has been discovered where, every year, a different large group of SCP-XXXX instances becomes the "active group," while the group that hunted the previous year goes into hiding. This takes place over a three-year cycle, with a different hunting group every year, and has allowed Foundation forces to record specific instances in different groups.

SCP-XXXX instances also possess an endoskeleton² under the initial skin, making it very difficult to do major damage to the instances. This endoskeleton has been shown to withstand direct bullets, explosions, and missile strikes. However, through sample testing the endoskeleton has been proven vulnerable to extreme heat, effectively fracturing and weakening when it is exposed to temperatures greater than 150º Celsius for more than a minute, and melting at temperatures greater than 200º Celsius when exposed for five minutes.

SCP-XXXX instances have been observed to possess a high level of intelligence, seeming able to coordinate skillfully and form near-strategies for avoiding interruption during feeding periods. Because of this, minor civilian casualties are considered optimal during feeding periods. Along with their previously mentioned intelligence, SCP-XXXX instances have a form of communication. The communication in question is observed to be made out of clicking noises, varying in pitch. They are also known to shriek and trill loudly. These shrieks and trills are theorized to be distress calls, possibly calling to other instances for help.

Shortly before and during feeding periods, instances of SCP-XXXX will appear in deep water near the coastline of feeding areas and naturally produce an unknown gas,³ which is expelled through the many pores on the torso. This gas creates major changes to weather patterns and atmosphere in the area, causing an unnaturally disastrous storm system to form. These systems are most often similar to storms classified as hurricanes or typhoons.

Approximately 6 hours after the storm system hits land, a pod⁴ usually consisting of 15-20 SCP-XXXX instances will emerge from the shoreline and begin advancing with the storm onto land. Five to six pods will emerge per storm, and will retreat back into the water when the storm either becomes weak or leaves the area. There are three large regions where SCP-XXXX instances feed and where instance-created storms form: the Southeastern United States, Eastern Southeast Asia, and Central America. To repel and possibly contain the instances, MTF Nu-7 ("Hammer Down") is to be on alert during the estimated time of a feeding period.

When the period starts, MTF Nu-7 is to split into three different squads, each squad having approximately 50 members. These squads are: "Florida Company," operating in the Southeastern United States, "Hong Kong Company" which operates in South China and Southeast Asia, and "Central Company," operating in Central America and west of Mexico. Each squad will send scout units ahead to each area, to look for signs of an SCP-XXXX generated storm. If a generated storm is found, the squads should transport to the area where storm will hit. These squads should attempt to suppress any SCP-XXXX with non-lethal weaponry, pushing them back to the water. Under no circumstances should there be any attempt to neutralize an instance without approval from at least three 05 council members. (See Addendum XXXX-A)

During feeding periods, the skin of SCP-XXXX instances develops an anti-memetic effect, causing the human brain to not perceive them. This makes the instances virtually invisible to the naked eye in this state. However, any sort of cut or damage to the skin will cause the effect to "flicker," and eventually fail, showing the instance's natural color. Along with this, pods of SCP-XXXX instances have great reality-bending capabilities, showing the abilities to instantaneously transport long distances and anomalously shift terrain around them. They also have regenerative properties, able to heal most damage done to the skin within 15 minutes of the initial injury through unknown means. Through tissue samples, it has been concluded that parts of SCP-XXXX's skin is made up of cells similar to tumor cells. These cells are theorized to somehow be controlled and manipulated by the SCP-XXXX instance. When the skin receives damage, the tumor cells copy the structure of skin cells and multiply over the wound, effectively skipping any healing process and instead directly repairing the skin. The natural abilities of SCP-XXXX instances make them immensely hard to track, let alone capture.

SCP-XXXX instances will only feed on human or sapient entities, seemingly not being able to feed on any other source. Feeding begins with bright blue light being projected from the eye of the instance. This light causes objects in its glow to begin levitating. This continues until the instance's prey is approximately one meter from its eye. The instance then [DATA EXPUNGED] the prey, the now-liquified substance being absorbed into the instance's pores. Personnel who have been fed on by SCP-XXXX instances are to be considered lost with no way of recovery.

Addendum XXXX-A: SCP-XXXX Death
The following documents the first occurrence of an SCP-XXXX instance being successfully terminated in combat.
Date: 7-██-████
Background: SCP-XXXX sightings reported on the southern Vietnam coast, south of Ho Chi Minh. Sightings are confirmed with Foundation satellite feed.⁵ Due to the fact that no other storm systems were reported in this area at the time, MTF Nu-7 ("Hammer Down") Hong Kong Company and Central Company, assisted by five MTF Elipson-9 ("Fire Eaters") units, were deployed to investigate the possibility of preventing the feeding period.

05:30: MTF Nu-7 ("Hammer Down") Hong Kong Company successful deployment 2 km from initial sighting location.
05:40: Central Company successful joining with Hong Kong Company at deployment site.
05:43: MTF Elipson-9 ("Fire Eaters") units successful deployment, towing experimental E9-8 "Satan's Anvil" heavy heat cannon.
05:50: All squadrons spread out and search for SCP-XXXX instances.
06:13: SCP-XXXX Instances found approximately 1km away from the initial sighting location, wading in shallow water and expelling gas. They appear to be dormant.
06:20: All squadrons begin making preparations for an assault on the instances.
06:25: Assault begins, with Hong Kong and Central Companies using kinetic weapons to break the instances' skin, while "Fire Eaters" units begin configuring E9-8 "Satan's Anvil" heavy cannon.
06:28: SCP-XXXX Instances exit dormant state once the endoskeleton of an instance is breached. Instances begin flailing and splashing water.⁶
06:30: "Satan's Anvil" primed to fire.
06:32: The largest of the SCP-XXXX instances begins charging out of the water and towards Hong Kong Company. Front Line is held, heavy weapons fire used to repel instance.
06:33: Order to fire given to "Satan's Anvil" team, weapon successfully fired and makes contact with the previously mentioned SCP-XXXX instance. Weapon's fire bores a large hole in the endoskeleton of the SCP-XXXX instance, successfully breaking through to reveal the first and only sighting of SCP-XXXX's innards.⁷
06:34: An incendiary grenade is thrown into the SCP-XXXX instance's internal cavity, in order to neutralize it. As the grenade enters the cavity, an extremely loud humming is heard,⁸ and the instance begins lowering itself as if tensing up. A loud creaking is heard, and the entirety of the SCP-XXXX instance folds in on itself. All MTF Cameras and communications cut off, and MTF Elipson-11 ("Nine-Tailed Fox") sent to investigate.
6:45: Satellite feed restored, showing that the surrounding 1km of the area has been wiped from existence in a perfect sphere. Nine-Tailed Fox arrives at the site and confirms this, finding a large crater in place of the previous coastline.

Conclusion: Further testing at the crater site shows a large destabilization of air in the area immediately after the crater was made. This, along with the fact that the crater was cut at the molecular level, concludes the following: When killed, one of the inner parts of SCP-XXXX instances creates a miniature singularity, which quickly collapses in on itself after destroying the area in an exact 1km radius. This seems to be a sort of self-destruct mechanism and is triggered when an external object breaches into an instance's inner cavity. Due to this new information, MTF orders have been updated. MTF units attempting to stabilize feeding periods for non-research purposes should not attempt to neutralize the instance, instead of pushing them back to the shoreline using kinetic/non-lethal weaponry, where Foundation artillery will be launched, forcing them to retreat into the water. Research into further ways to neutralize SCP-XXXX instances is ongoing.

Addendum XXXX-B: Tracking Attempts
Test A - 9-██-████
Purpose: Tracking; Attach a tracking dart to an SCP-XXXX instance to trace the origin of the instances

00:32: MTF Nu-7 ("Hammer Down") "Florida Company" deployed to combat SCP-XXXX instances during a hurricane estimated to be SCP-XXXX generated.
00:57: "Florida Company" successful deployment in the Tampa Bay area, ETA for the first pod of SCP-XXXX instances is approximately 30 minutes.
01:24: First pod of SCP-XXXX instances sighted with anti-memetic goggles, estimated count: 5 instances. Approximate distance is two kilometers away.
01:34: Pod comes within firing range, "Florida Company" opens fire using long-range heat cannons.
01:38: Enhanced Kinetic Rifle is used to embed tracking dart into inner skin of an SCP-XXXX instance. "Florida Company" equips non-lethal suppressing weapons and advances towards the instances.
02:24: Pod of SCP-XXXX instances is successfully pushed back to the shoreline. Estimated civilian casualties: 10. Pod retreats into the Atlantic ocean. Tracking dart is activated.
02:38: External camera on tracking dart shows skin of SCP-XXXX instance repairing itself.
02:44: Skin of SCP-XXXX Instance fully repaired, tracking dart records high atmospheric pressure levels.
02:57: Tracking dart is crushed, the estimated cause is a combination of high atmospheric pressure and the skin of the SCP-XXXX instance crushing it.

Conclusion: SCP-XXXX instances are able to withstand great atmospheric pressure and regenerate skin tissue. Further testing is advised.

Test B - 8-██-████
Purpose: To embed a long-range experimental tracker to the inside of the endoskeleton of an SCP-XXXX instance, to determine the endoskeleton's strength, as well as if it regenerates or not. Also, a personal Scranton Reality Anchor was used in this test, in order to test their effectiveness on the reality-bending capabilities of SCP-XXXX instances.

04:00: Possible SCP-XXXX generated storm system detected off of Western Mexican coast. MTF Nu-7 ("Hammer Down") "Central Company" deployed to repel possible SCP-XXXX instances and conduct test.
04:14: "Central Company" successful deployment east of Cabo San Lucas.
04:27: Two abnormally large SCP-XXXX instances spotted with anti-memetic goggles, seemingly leading approximately 4 smaller instances. All instances appear to be running towards a small village in proximity to Central Company's current position. Company leader gives all clear, and units advance into the village to prepare an ambush.
04:40: SCP-XXXX instances arrive at the village and begin tearing open multiple buildings. Central Company initiates ambush by firing long-range concussion missiles at the instances, stunning them and knocking two small instances over. Central Company opens fire on larger SCP-XXXX instances with heat weapons.
04:43: Confirmed breach into endoskeleton of one of the larger SCP-XXXX instances. Alpha squad begins to prepare launcher for a long-range tracking device.
04:45: Launcher jams, and appears to be malfunctioning. Alpha-7 disobeys direct orders from an officer and runs at the still-recovering SCP-XXXX instances.
04:46: Alpha-7 begins climbing up instance's torso, and is successful in attaching the tracker to hole in the torso. However, the instance becomes active once Alpha-7 enters its endoskeleton, and Alpha-7 is taken.
04:50: SCP-XXXX Instances successfully pushed back to the shoreline, tracking begins.
05:25: At this point, the instance being tracked has crossed through major points in the Pacific Ocean in a sporadic pattern, Until it stops unexpectedly, supposedly to rest.
05:26: The tracker's onboard camera captures footage the instance's skin unexpectedly opening up, revealing a volcanic ocean vent. The instance seems to be bending itself so that the hole in the endoskeleton is pointed into the boiling water. Endoskeleton begins to rapidly heal, theorized to be triggered by the boiling water. Tracker is crushed due to immense pressure from endoskeleton around it.

Conclusion: SCP-XXXX instances seem to know when they are being tracked, suggested by the sporadic pattern the instance took while being tracked. Also, instances can heal their endoskeleton through exposure to deep-sea vents. Further research into this reaction is currently underway.

The following message was received from 05 command by MTF Nu-7 ("Hammer Down") Commanders on 8-█-████ following the conclusion of the largest feeding period yet, with ██ Foundation casualties and ███ civilian casualties.

I can't allow this project to waste Foundation resources any longer. Already we've nearly had 15 major information breaches, as well as caused a major diversion of resources away from other testing and protocols that require attention. The next objective in this testing should be to capture a specimen for long-time study, in order to lower priority and redirect Foundation resources elsewhere.

Attached to this message was the framework of a plan created by 05-8 to capture an instance of SCP-XXXX. Preparations were made by Hammer Down according to the plans.

Test C - 10-█-████
Purpose: To capture an SCP-XXXX instance for long-term study using plans formulated by 05-8, who will be formally overseeing this test.

09:45: Satellite footage shows confirmed SCP-XXXX instances inside Hurricane ████, currently impacting Florida coast. As expected, satellite footage goes out shortly after sighting instances.
09:50: All MTF Nu-7 Squadrons, hereby known as "Capture Squad," are deployed to the Florida Keys with two helicopter units and the objective of capturing an SCP-XXXX Instance.
10:05: Extremely large number of SCP-XXXX instances sighted by recon team, estimated 25 total instances, with 4 of them being abnormally large.
10:10: Further tracking of instances show that the group seems to be heading in the direction of Containment Site-76. Capture Squad prepares to defend Site-76, and the immediate area is evacuated.
10:27: SCP-XXXX instances sighted approximately 5km away from Site-76. Capture Squad begins firing on the instances with long-range heat rifles and cannons.
10:30: The skin of multiple instances has entirely melted off, and instances are now approaching 1km in distance.
10:31: Phase 2 of the capture plan comes into effect, as helicopter units lift off and approach the weakest instances. A specially made cannon made to fire a miniature Scranton Reality Anchor has been attached to both helicopter units. Cannons begin to load.
10:32: The First anchor is fired, embedding into the skin of an instance, and activated. The instance hit lets out a high-pitched wail before falling limp, temporarily neutralized. The rest of the instances become agitated, attempting to knock down the remaining helicopter unit with levitation beams.
10:35: The Second anchor is fired after minor difficulty, hitting one of the larger instances. Larger instance appears to be significantly affected, but not neutralized.
10:36: Remaining instances focus beams on the second attached Scranton Reality Anchor, successfully detaching it. Instances begin practicing abnormal behavior, continuing to point their beams at the Anchor until beams turn to a violet shade. Instances then drop the Anchor and flee the area, showing increased reality-bending capabilities, including [REDACTED] multiple MTF units and being able to instantaneously travel kilometers at a time. While using Anomalous Weapon Zeta-███ to suppress the units, weapon spontaneously ceased to function and was neutralized anomalously.

After the conclusion of this test, the Hammer Down recovery team found the remains of the second Scranton Reality Anchor. Inspection of the anchor reveals that it has lost all anomalous properties. It is theorized that the SCP-XXXX instances are able to absorb the properties and power of other anomalous objects, as seen by the sudden neutralizing of Anomalous Weapon Zeta-███.

The captured instance in Test C was collected with a Foundation VTOL and carried to Secure Containment Site-██. A specially made cell was constructed to the proposed standards from Dr. █████ The instance was placed in the cell, external Scranton Reality Anchors were activated. and the miniature Scranton Reality Anchor was remotely deactivated. When the Instance awakened, after finding no way out of the cell and its anomalous abilities neutralized, as well as the feeding period ending, it began burrowing into the sand until its entire body besides its torso was buried. Its torso then turned a pale white, mimicking the sand. This appears to be a dormant state, in which instances will burrow into deep seabeds between active feeding periods. Instances seem hard to disturb in this state, with tissue samples being taken without waking the captive instance.

However, every approximately 3 years, when it is estimated that the captive instance's feeding group becomes active, the instance becomes exceptionally restless, appearing to scratch and even run into the walls of the containment cell, seemingly trying to escape. Because of this, the instance has caused ██ containment breaches during its containment, in which it attempts to flee towards the nearest large body of water. Any personnel attempting to terminate or release the instance should be detained immediately for Psychological Evaluation.

Addendum XXXX-D: Origin of Instances.

While studying SCP-XXXX behaviors, Researchers Dr. Brown and Dr. Liesel, who were at the time stationed at Containment Site-██, noticed a pattern in SCP-XXXX behaviors. By tracking SCP-XXXX movement direction once in oceans with satellite feed, along with taking into account normal SCP-XXXX movement patterns on land, they came to the conclusion that all SCP-XXXX movements, once in the ocean, can be triangulated to a single point. Further surveillance concluded that this point of convergence lead to an uncharted island in the North Pacific Ocean. An immediate exploration mission named the Brown-Liesel expedition was approved, with the objective of possibly finding a more secure containment procedure.

When arriving at the objective, the island was found to be much more shattered and broken apart than originally thought, evidence suggesting a natural event had caused the island to break apart and to scatter in the immediate area. Preparations were made for underwater exploration, with an MTF Gamma-6 "Deep Feeders" Squadron being called in to support the exploration.

Dr. Liesel: Yes! I knew that the island was destroyed because of an asteroid! You owe me fifty bucks, Brown!

G6-L: We should probably focus on the mission, gentlemen. Let's keep going.

(Research Team begins approaching asteroid. While Research Team approaches 70 meters from the asteroid, asteroid begins glowing with a green tint.)

G6-5: What's with that glow?

Dr. Liesel: Some sort of bioluminescence, I'm assuming. That's interesting, though, since I don't know of any sea creatures that exhibit bioluminescence inside rocks, much less an asteroid.

Dr. Brown: Agreed. It also looks like there's been some disturbance around the seabed recently.

(Cameras turn towards bottom of seabed, where sand has been stirred up and scattered in uneven patterns)

Dr Liesel: If it's possible, I think Dr. Brown and myself would like to get closer to that glowing rock. For all we know, that might be the secret of how to defeat these hellish things.

G6-L: Alright then, just be careful and stay on alert. Men, prepare for deep dive protocol. 6 and 7, escort the doctors to the object at the bottom for a closer look. 3, 4, and 5, establish a perimeter and scout for any unexpected visitors. 2 and I will stay up here and set up sonar. Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX-1 and the area surrounding it is to be kept under constant surveillance at all times. An established perimeter should be kept in a 200 meter radius around SCP-XXXX's affected area, under the guise of a historical preservation project. Said perimeter is called Research Site-74, and contains facilities for on-site security and researchers. Field research can take place within this perimeter, at the discretion of Site Director ████ Erikson

All personnel on-site with SCP-XXXX must carry with them a handheld water bottle containing at least .5 liters of water at all times. Multiple water dispensers are to be placed around Site-74 as a means of refilling said bottles. If a staff member refuses to take any water, and is exhibiting any strange or obsessive behavior, they are to be detained and questioned by site security immediately. The same goes for any non-Foundation personnel who insist on being let into Site-74, or those who try to enter it forcefully.

Description: SCP-XXXX is the collective term for a series of phenomena surrounding a well dated to be from the early 18th century, found in a forest bordering the small township of ██████, Michigan. The well itself is abnormally clean for its apparent age, showing no signs of rusting parts or deterioration. This is strange due to the well being made of extremely basic materials, such as wood, stone, and leather rope. The anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX manifest when a person is within a 150 meter radius of the well. While subjects are in this radius, they suddenly feel parched, even if they are actually not dehydrated.⁹ This effect becomes more severe the farther away the subject is from SCP-XXXX's origin. Subjects will then look for any sources of water on their person. If a source of water is found, it will be consumed by the affected subject. If at least .5 liters of liquid is consumed, the subject will continue on with the effects of SCP-XXXX being nullified. However, if less than .5 liters are consumed, or no water is found at all, the subject will attempt to draw water from the origin of the anomalous effect, the aforementioned well known as SCP-XXXX-1.

Liquid taken from SCP-XXXX-1 is designated SCP-XXXX-2. The liquid is colorless and odorless, and has been described as having a variety of tastes for multiple different subjects Some of the flavors experienced are peppermint, strawberry, grape, chocolate, and mint. Each of these flavors have been described as pleasant-tasting for the person drinking the liquid, some of which stated it was their favorite flavor. After this first experience with the liquid, the subject will be temporarily cleared of SCP-XXXX's effects and their thirst will be quenched. However, this first consumption will begin the three phases of SCP-XXXX's effects. To date, no known method has been found for stopping the progression of these phases other than termination of the subject.

Approximately 30 hours after first consumption of the liquid, phase 1 begins, and subjects will once again feel parched. In this second instance of dehydration, it also affects the subject's biology, with any water consumed immediately evaporating in the throat through anomalous means. Subjects have also complained of sore throat and headaches during this stage. These effects worsen as time passes, and only cease when either the subject dies via dehydration, or when the subject drinks once again from SCP-XXXX-1.

Following this, dehydration will begin to occur frequently, causing subjects to drink from SCP-XXXX-1 even more. At this point, bodies of subjects will not accept any other source of liquid, only being able to tolerate and draw essential nutrients from SCP-XXXX-2. Subjects in this state who were offered or forced to drink normal liquids were seen spitting and vomiting when consuming the liquids, with complaints of burning throats and stomachs when liquid is consumed. At this point, subjects will move into the second phase of SCP-XXXX's effects.

Subjects, following this biological stage, begin to undertake behavioral and thought-processing changes. The beginning of this psychological restructuring is dubbed as "Phase 2." Subjects at this point to develop personalities similar to those found with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, focused around SCP-XXXX-2. Subjects will frequently visit SCP-XXXX-1 to bottle and store large amounts of SCP-XXXX-2, storing said bottles in places they are most often, such as their homes and workplaces. Subjects will also become exceedingly distressed if they do not have a bottle of SCP-XXXX-2 on their person at all times, often times resorting to violence to obtain any instance of SCP-XXXX-2 they can find.

As subjects continue to consume SCP-XXXX-2, more severe neurological effects begin to take root. Studies taken around this time show a brief, week-long transition period of elation and euphoria, accompanied by an unnatural increase of dopamine in the brain. If the subject has not consumed SCP-XXXX-2 for at least an hour, they will begin to show signs of severe narcolepsy and exhaustion, eventually dying from extreme fatigue. During this time, unknown changes take place inside the mind of said subjects, the only abnormality being an increase in idle brain activity. After this transition period, subjects move on to phase 3 of the effects.

As phase 3 begins, subjects undertake a massive personality and behavior shift, mainly becoming more obsessive, emotional, aggressive, and protective. Any subjects afflicted with this change are considered no longer human, and are to be designated SCP-XXXX-3. SCP-XXX-3 instances then abandon their current home or dwelling place and will try by any means necessary to move as close to SCP-XXXX-1 as possible, with many instances creating a pseudo campsite near SCP-XXXX-1. This phenomenon of migration to SCP-XXXX-1 has been dubbed "The Cleansing" by interviewed SCP-XXXX-3 instances. SCP-XXXX-3 instances who drink directly from SCP-XXXX-1 at this stage will suddenly increase in physical and mental strength through anomalous means, becoming much stronger and more intelligent than an average human being, as well as developing a deep blue eye hue.

Phase 3 effects following this "Cleansing" will continue throughout the rest of the instance's life, which is also extended due to the anomalous effects of SCP-XXXX-2. Extended research on SCP-XXXX-3 shows that instances nourished on SCP-XXXX-2 from the time they are infants will, at first, age rapidly. This rapid growth accelerates the infant's mental and physical state to that of a twenty year old in merely ten years. After this, the bodies of subjects will stay in roughly the same state ages ten to one hundred, before quickly deteriorating from ages 100-105. Around this time, the cognition of instances will wear down, resulting in the instance falling into a coma. From the end of their initial rapid growth to the end of the instance's life, their skin and internal organs will gain regenerative properties, known to SCP-XXXX-3 instances as "the gift of purity." This "gift," however, does not effect the bones of instances, and such destroying and damaging their bones and spine structures is known as the only way to impede or even kill these SCP-XXXX-2 raised instances.

Studies taken on multiple SCP-XXXX-3 instances also show they communicate through a form of telepathy along with standard English, showing uncanny coordination and formation of strategies without directly communicating. Using this ability, instances will begin to gather together around the well, as well as encourage their friends and family to drink from it, and hence also become SCP-XXXX-3 instances. Phase 3 is also when the previously mentioned behavioral and personality changes will take their full form, as SCP-XXXX-3 instances begin to form communities similar to those found in Religious groups and cults. These communities hunt, gather, and consume any kind of food using resources available to them, but will only consume SCP-XXXX-2 for hydration. Instances will focus their community on and around SCP-XXXX-1, building camps and eventually structures such as houses surrounding SCP-XXXX-1.

After about 5 (approximate) years of development, communities usually grow to a population of around 50 members.¹⁰ At this point, SCP-XXXX-3 instances will no longer seek out and try to force citizens to drink from the well, but have children themselves to increase their population. Advanced research into these larger SCP-XXXX-3 communities reveal a social structure based on a form of patriarchy, where the first person to become an SCP-XXXX-3 instance is formed as the leader of the community. This leader, or "Messenger" as members of communities call him, has been observed to be always male, even if a female was the first to drink from SCP-XXXX-1. Also, all Messengers observed to date have been able to survive long past the normal SCP-XXXX-3 lifespan, even keeping their sanity and being able to perform basic motor functions like speaking and walking when their bodies should not be able to support said actions.

After the Messenger has been assigned, a new behavior and general attitude of the community will be formed. Instead of welcoming others to drink from SCP-XXXX-1, as they have up to this point, they will become extremely hostile towards outsiders of the community. Any non-instances found on the outskirts are told sternly to leave, and if they do not comply they are pushed away with force or even killed. Any human subjects that are not children of those already in the community found within the community's borders are captured by the instances and brought into the heart of the village. What happens to these subjects after they are captured is unknown.

Along with this new hostile attitude, members of the village who have completed their growth stage or are greater than ten years old¹¹ depart the village every night at sunset. These instances will search and wander the surrounding area, tending to follow roads and trails left by humans and citizens. If any non-instances are found, the instances will kidnap them and bring them back to the community. As is the case with human subjects found inside the village, what happens to these captured non-instances once they enter the community area is unknown.

The only known way to dismantle an SCP-XXXX-3 community is to terminate that community's Messenger. After the Messenger has been terminated in controlled testing communities, the community members begin to fight and betray each other for control of the community. This conflict eventually leads to total chaos within the boundaries of the community and a complete breakdown of the area surrounding SCP-XXXX-1 as instances struggle for control of it. Eventually, all SCP-XXXX-3 instances will either die or exile themselves from the community, where they are usually found by Foundation exfiltration squadrons and taken in for testing.¹²

Addendum XXXX-a: Initial Discovery of SCP-XXXX.

The initial sighting and discovery of SCP-XXXX began in 198█, when Foundation Personnel received reports of several rural communities in the upper Midwest being completely abandoned in one night, with multiple signs of skirmishes and struggles in homes and workplaces. Data gathered totals the number of townships affected at 1█, and the number of missing persons at ███. In response, the Foundation assigned MTF Unit Epsilon-6 ("Village Idiots") to inspect the surrounding area in search of any anomalous activity, as Foundation resources worked to close off the county borders surrounding the affected area.

SCP-XXXX Initial Contact Video Log Transcript

Date: 10-14-198█

Exploration Team: MTF Epsilon-6; Squad Designation Beta.

Subject: Search the rural area of █████ County, Michigan for signs of anomalies.

Team Lead: E6B-1

Team Members: E6B-2, E6B-3, E6B-4, E6B-5, Foundation Helicopter units A6 and A15 assisting in search efforts.

[BEGIN LOG]

[Initial Video footage displays Elipson-6B Squad departing from Site-██ riding in a Foundation Commissioned Civilian Vehicle, as Helicopter Units approach the █████ County area.]

A6: Site-██, this is Foundation Air Units A6 and A15, approaching your airspace for requested exploration assistance.

Site-██ Communications: Copy that, Air Units. We already got you confirmed and checked in. Patching you into ground team and Command now.

[Slight static as ground team comms are connected to helicopter units.]

A15: E6-Beta, this is your eyes in the sky, units A6 and A15, reporting for duty.

E6B-1: Reading you loud and clear, A6. We just left the Site garage a few minutes ago, and no problems so far. We're just now entering the █████ County area; if you two would mind doing a little flying around and pointing out anything that looks out of the ordinary, that would be great. Site Command, you still copy?

Site-██ Command: That's an affirmative, B-1. Does anyone have any last minute objections before the operation begins?

[Radio Silence]

Site-██ Command: Alright, then. Let the operation officially commence.

[The next few minutes are a series of routine radio checks and off-topic chatter, as the helicopter units enter exploration area and Elipson-6B approaches the first area to be investigated: one of the abandoned townships.]

E6B-4: Damn, they could have made better seats for this piece of crap buggy. It's like sitting on that ball of hooks.

E6B-2: Quit whining, 4. We're almost there.

[As helicopter units are still sweeping the area, Elipson-6B enters what used to be the township of ██████. However, there is not a sound anywhere besides Elipson-6B's vehicle. The vehicle comes to a stop, and squad members exit.]

E6B-1: Alright boys, listen up. No matter how uncomfortable it is, stay in your civilian garb. Remember, although we are in the middle of nowhere, this is still a public road. Also, the debrief said this place is supposed to be abandoned. If you see anyone, and I mean ANYONE besides your normal squadmates, let the rest of us know before approaching them. Everyone got that?

E6B-1-5: Yessir!

E6B-1: Then let's get to it. 5 and 3, search some of the civilian houses and look for any signs of struggle. 4, you get to that gas station and see if there's anything strange in there. 2 and I will do some recon by the roads and see if there's any feasible trail we can pick up that the law enforcement didn't.

E6B-4: Why do I always get stuck with the supply runs?

E6B-1: Because, rookie, the last thing we'd want is for our shiny new human shield to get killed before we can use him, eh? So get in there, and grab us a snack on the way out.

[Senior members laugh as E6B-4 grumbles and slouches towards the dilapidated gas station. Meanwhile, the rest of the squad disperses throughout the area, searching for clues. Several minutes pass with no significant findings.]

E6B-4: So, I'm going to have trouble getting you that snack you mentioned, B-1.

E6B-2: Damn it 4. Did you eat everything already?

E6B-4: No, wha- I told you guys I'm on a diet now! But anyways, the reason I can't get you anything is because this place is cleared to the bone. There's nothing here.

E6B-1: What?

[E6B-1 rushes back to the gas station, where E6B-4 can be seen standing at the entrance. Both walk into the gas station, where camera footage confirms that there are no food products in sight, the store shelves completely emptied.]

E6B-1: Well, this wasn't in the debrief. That means, if the police were here only yesterday…

E6B-3: Someone's been here. Recently, too.

[All team members become noticeably more anxious and draw firearms.]

E6B-1: Alright, boys. Stay on guard. Looks like we got ourselves a trail, and seems we're not that far off from the thing that made the print. Fan out and search, I want every house checked for abnormalities like what happened in this gas station.

[Team begins to search the nearby houses, and has consistent results: no anomalies other than food-related products being completely absent from the houses.]

E6B-5: Wait, what the he- what? Guys, get over here. This house looks like it's getting demolished!

[1-4 hurry to E6B-5's location, a small farmhouse, where the entire back wall has been ripped off. All sheetrock, wood, insulation, and other building materials have been ripped off the frame of the house's frame, with no signs of any sort of tool assistance.]]

E6B-1: How is this even possible? To even get this wall off you'd need at least a construction truck, much less than anything these citizens would have. I just don't understand-

A15: [Slight Static] Sorry to interrupt your monologue, boss-man, but it looks like we found our culprit.

E6B-1: Where?

A15: Coords ██-███, North of your position, currently heading West. Guy's dragging a body, alive or not we can't tell. Their facial features match up with one of the homeowners though, a ████ Jameson. Guy looks pretty beat up, at least around his torso. The man himself I can't get a good look at, although he straight up looks like he just got here from medieval England. For [EXPLETIVE] sake, he's wearing robes!

E6B-1: Shit. Looks like we got a fight on our hands, boys. 15, fall back to our position and guide us to the target. A6, keep following. I'm patching in with command now. Command, you read me?

Site-██ Command: Reading you, what's the situation?

E6B-1: I think we've found our anomaly, and it looks humanoid. Hook up to A6's camera while we're riding over and see if you can get any identifying facial features on the target while we're riding over there. Also, evidence suggests it's hostile. Have an exfil team ready in case we manage to catch the thing

Site-██ Command: Solid copy. Be careful, 1.

E6B-1: Noted. Alright, everyone back in the buggy. We're going to ask that bastard some questions.

[[E6B enters the vehicle as A15 appears overhead, and begins flying slowly to the north. E6B follows A15. Little is said on the radio until E6B comes within a .5 mile radius of the target's position, and E6B gains a visual on A6.]]

E6B-1: Command, how's that identification going?

Site-██ Command: 1, we got a good look at him and ran his face through every database we have. It doesn't look like we have him logged, even in criminal records. Looks like you found a live one, a new anomaly. I'm deploying exfiltration now. I'd advise trying to make him stop, or at least restraining him so the exfiltration team can pick him up.

E6B-1: Roger. Hear that men? Get the target to stop, or at least just slow him down. We'll try approaching him head-on and assessing him first, and we'll go from there. This ain't training or cleanup anymore, five and four. This is the real deal. Stay close on our tail, and be alert.

E6B-4 & 5: Yes, sir!

[[Another minute passes in silence as E6B slowly comes closer to the target.]]

A15: 6, you still following the bogey?

A6: That's an affirmative, 15. Don't think the bastard has noticed us yet, but that could change any second.

E6B-1: Hear that, 3? Step on it!

E6B-3: Going as fast as I can sir, this buggy they gave us is just a piece of garbage.

[[E6B units turn to find the target crossing the road, dragging the limp body of a citizen of ██████ township, as described.]]

E6B-2: There he is, boys! 3, park the buggy! The rest of you, gear up and close in!

[[As E6B-3 begins to slow down, the rest of the team dismount and begin approaching the target with weapons drawn. As they move closer, an audible monotone mumbling is heard from the target. Post-log analysis was unable to decipher this]]

E6B-1: Hey! You, in the robe! Stop where you are, drop the man now and put your hands in the air! That is an order!

E6B-2: What the hell is he saying?

E6B-4: No idea, he's mumbling.

E6B-2: No shit, captain obvious!

[[Target continues walking with its head down as if it did not hear E6B-1.]]

E6B-1: Stop! Stop now or we'll be forced-

E6B-3: Don't worry chief, I'll handle this.

[[E6B-3 parks the FCCV a few feet in front of the target, directly in its path, coming to a complete stop.]]

E6B-3: Try to get past this, tough guy!

//[[The target continues walking until they bump into the FCCV. The target lifts their head, briefly making eye contact with E6B-3. The target then drops the body, and equips a vial of unknown substance from the inside of its robe. It opens the cap of the vial, and splashes it in the face of E6B-3, as well as the FCCV. E6B-3's face █████████ and ███████████████████████ the vehicle, resulting in an explosion and E6B-3 being KIA.

A few minutes following this exploration mission, exfiltration squadrons arrived on the scene of the fight. They found the hostile still dragging the civilian's body on the trajectory they were walking in before. While exfiltration teams attempted to restrain the hostile, two scout helicopters were deployed, and followed the hostile's trajectory to attempt to find his destination. During this scouting expedition, the hostile was successfully terminated via several bullet wounds to the neck, breaking their second and third vertebrates.

As part of post-mission analysis, the exfiltration team examined the area around the events for signs of any witnesses. Elipson-6 Beta's bodies were all found, and exhumed via Foundation Protocol. The body the target was dragging also was recovered, but analysis by medical staff found that the wounds inflicted had been fatal, breaking several ribs and crushing the person's lungs. A quick check confirmed that the person and their entire family had been residing at a farmhouse in one of the vanished townships, which eliminated the need for Amnestic protocols.

Meanwhile, the scout helicopters arrived at their destination, a deceptively large village, with technology dating back to the 1700s and possibly further. Following this mission, two more nearby townships suddenly disappeared, creating a perfect circle of disappearances where this large village was at the epicenter. Learning this information, multiple interviews were conducted with Air Unit members, in hopes of learning more about this village and how to observe or infiltrate it.
