Item #: SCP-XXXX - Interdimensional Trading Cards
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: The objects comprising SCP-XXXX are to remain in a locked box at a high-security facility when not being tested. A deck of sixty-one (61) trading cards of any single brand is to be kept on hand in the event SCP-XXXX is collectively destroyed. All "summoned" instances of SCP-XXXX are to be housed in Temporary Containment Cells outfitted with no less than three (3) Foundation issue burners designed to incinerate all contents within the cell.
Every night at 12:01 AM, personnel are to check that all instances SCP-XXXX have returned to the deck. Any missing cards signifies a containment breach and SCP-XXXX-3 and SCP-XXXX-16 should be used and interrogated. If they cannot be summoned, SCP-XXXX-8 will be used instead and information forcefully extracted. SCPX-XXXX-3 and SCP-XXXX-16 are to both bee made aware of this procedure to ensure compliance.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a deck of sixty (60) sixty-one (61) cards resembling a children's trading card game. Each one is classified as either Spell, Equipment, or Creature cards, each with differing effects. There is a nameplate at the top of each card containing the card's name. There is a picture depicting each and a written explanations of each card's effect as well as a "rarity" value (in a standard black, silver, and gold indicator common among such products). Creature cards have two additional spaces labeled STR (strength) and DEF (defense). These stats seem to correspond with the creature's effectiveness in battle. The back of every card contains a logo resembling a shooting star striking a planet. This logo matches no known entertainment company that manufactures such cards.
There are thirty-one (31) unique instances of SCP-XXXX (henceforth designated as SCP-XXXX-1-31). See Inventory Log XXXX for a full list of items and their corresponding effects. An analysis revealed each card to be composed of ink and cardstock typical of trading card products.
Hobbyists among Foundation personnel analyzed SCP-XXXX in an attempt to discern the rules for the game the cards appear to be made for. While there was no general consensus on play format, there are facts researchers are able to agree on. The first being that the lack of creature complexity and simple spell/equipment effects could indicate that these cards were the product of a failed enterprise. This lead investigators to expand their search for possible creators to include ventures forced to abandon their projects prior to mainstream production. Secondly, the rarity rating on each card was indicative that there could be other instances of SCP-XXXX not in Foundation custody. The acquisition of these possible instances has been deemed high priority. Hobby shops in the continental United States are to be monitored for SCP-XXXX.
SCP-XXXX instances can be used by drawing a card from the top of the deck and reciting its name. Immediately following this, one of two events will occur. If the Subject drew a Spell card, the card's effect will occur in relation to the subject. If a Creature or Equipment card is drawn, the entity or item depicted on the card will manifest within 3m of the subject (it should be noted that while all entities summoned this way have displayed sentience, several have shown open hostility towards all personnel aside from the Subject). When an instance of SCP-XXXX is used in this way, the card will vanish through unknown means, only to reappear in the deck at midnight the following day.
Instances of SCP-XXXX taken more than 63cm away from the deck (the deck consisting of the largest gathering of SCP-XXXX instances), it loses its anomalous properties. When brought back within this range, the card will function as normal. Instances kept outside of this range for extended periods will reappear in the deck at midnight the following day. Should the cards be individually separated, they will reappear in a deck format above any given instance seemingly at random at the standard time of reappearance. There is no known method of preventing this as even destroyed instances will reappear at this time (See Addendum XXXX-A).
Spell cards have immediate effects. Several of these effects are still subject to testing. The Subject has yet to be harmed though activate of SCP-XXXX.
When an Equipment card is activated, the Subject is not compelled to hold the item. Should the item not be used by midnight the following night, it will vanish and reappear in the deck. Aside from SCP-XXXX-14, these items possess no further properties and are able to be used for their obvious purposes. These instances will vanish upon being sufficiently damaged and reappear in the deck at the standard reset time.
Creature cards are unique in that they summon fully sentient, living entities as depicted on their card. Unlike Equipment cards, Creatures can persist indefinitely barring termination or "self-dismissal", in which instances exhibit the ability to de-materialize through unknown means after which they will reappear in the deck at the standard reset time. There is no known way to prevent this aside from chemically inducing a coma. It should be noted that instances of SCP-XXXX are incapable of speaking about certain topics, such as their creator. Doing so forces them to dismiss. The means by which this happens is also a subject they are unable to talk about.
While instances of SCP-XXXX are able to be terminated by any standard means, burning is the most efficient way to do so. Once aflame, instances are unable to put themselves out even when fully submerged in water. Curiously, SCP-XXXX-17, which produces its own fire naturally, is equally susceptible to open flames not of its own creation.
Addendum XXXX-A: During an argument with fellow personnel on the various possible play formats of SCP-XXXX, Researcher Finn grew agitated. He proceeded to place SCP-XXXX in the designated Containment Cell and activated the burners. After Finn was severely reprimanded and demoted to Level-0 for the premature destruction of an SCP, SCP-XXXX was found the next day in the office of Dr. Owens, having replaced one of his personal trading card decks. Testing was conducted revealing that when all instances of SCP-XXXX are destroyed, they will replace a deck of equal size that consists of any one brand of trading cards. Containment protocols were updated to take this into account.
Document XXXX-A-1:
It took me three [EXPLETIVE] years to build that deck and its gone because some JUNIOR researcher decided to chuck XXXX in the incinerator!? I expect to see some punishment and replacements by tomorrow!
Dr. Owens
Document XXXX-A-2:
Dr. Owens,
Your displeasure is noted and Researcher Finn has been punished as per standard Foundation policy. However I am compelled to remind you that the Foundation is not responsible for any damaged or lost personal property as a result of testing. If you didn't want to lose it, you shouldn't have brought it to work to show off to your friends.
