Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4068 should be kept in a standard Safe-class Anomalous Locker at Site-64. Direct eye contact with SCP-4068 is not allowed, under any circumstances.
Description: SCP-4068 is a black candle roughly 15 cm tall and has a diameter of roughly 3 cm. The wax that composes SCP-4068 appears to melt, though the total size of the object has remained the same. SCP-4068 perpetually burns with a black flame, which seems to absorb both heat and light from its immediate surroundings. Direct eye contact with SCP-4068 will cause severe paranoia and visual hallucinations in the subject. Subjects affected by SCP-4068 will often become violent and irrational.
On several occasions (see the incident report of Site-██), subjects affected by SCP-4068 have attacked or attempted to attack personnel. When questioned, the subjects stated that they believed the personnel were, "monsters in the dark."
Discovery: SCP-4068 was found in ██████ ████ Orphanage in ████████, England. The orphanage is recorded as being constructed in 1911. SCP-4068 was discovered on a wooden nightstand adjacent to what appeared to be a child's bed. The orphanage was brought to the Foundation's attention when it was shut down after ██ faculty and ███ children went missing over the course of three months.
SCP-4068 was then moved to Site-██. After the disappearance of the faculty of Site-██ (see the incident report of Site-██), SCP-4068 was recovered by MTF Zeta-2 ("Silver Bells") and moved to Site-64.
