Appalachian Ghost Sandbox I
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid (formerly Safe)
Special Containment Procedures: The staff at Observation Post XXXX are to monitor remote cameras placed within SCP-XXXX for any signs of activity. Once per week a staff member is to be sent in to check cameras and give necessary maintenance. No staff should be present within SCP-XXXX between 6:00 am EST and 7:00 am EST. All staff members entering SCP-XXXX are to wear standard issue waterproof hazmat suits. All suits should be regularly checked and maintained to standard Foundation maintenance code.
The entrance to SCP-XXXX is to remain blocked by a waterproof seal at all times save for movement in and out of SCP-XXXX. SCP Foundation Personnel have retrofitted the space outside SCP-XXXX with a steel pan and drainage system inserted into the ground to collect any SCP-XXXX-2 leakage, as well as constructing a waterproof chamber and decontamination room adjacent.
No more than 5 gallons of SCP-XXXX-2 samples from SCP-XXXX are to be kept at Observation Post XXXX. Should samples surpass 5 gallons, a staff member is to be sent through SCP-XXXX to dispose of up to 5 gallons of the collected samples.
No samples from SCP-XXXX are to be moved outside of Observation Post XXXX. No foreign liquids are to enter or be removed from a 50 meter radius of SCP-XXXX.
Special Containment Procedures: Foundation personnel are not to enter SCP-XXXX when SCP-XXXX-1 is present at Observation Post XXXX without SCP-XXXX-1. Should SCP-XXXX-1 discover Foundation personnel within SCP-XXXX without it presence, this event will comprise a breach of containment and STF Chicago-15 are to be immediately alerted.
Foundation personnel assigned to Observation Post XXXX are to maintain a cover story at all times when interacting with SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX-1 is to be monitored by at least 1 member of staff at all times. Any aggression or use of its abilities outside of SCP-XXXX are to be reported immediately. STF Chicago-15 are stationed nearby to quick suppress or eliminate SCP-XXXX-1 if it becomes uncooperative or hostile.
All Foundation personnel are not to interfere with SCP-XXXX-1's daily activity outside of SCP-XXXX or Observation Post XXXX, and are permitted to fraternize with SCP-XXXX-1 to a professional degree. SCP-XXXX-1 has, to record, been extremely hospitable and cooperative with Foundation personnel under the pretext of studying what it perceives as its anomalous abilities. Foundation personnel are not to notify SCP-XXXX-1 of its true nature.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a stable spacetime anomaly accessible via a door on the second floor of ████ Hillcrest Rd's main building in Elk City, Idaho, United States of America.
Entering the door causes an individual to pass through SCP-XXXX, which leads to what appears to be a parallel reality. Individuals step into a damaged and deteriorated copy of the property which has undergone severe water damage to the buildings, furniture, machinery, and surrounding foliage. The topology surrounding the property is nearly identical to that of the area surrounding SCP-XXXX. However, all surrounding buildings, plants, and some natural structures have undergone severe water damage, and the surrounding area is flooded an approximate 1206 meters above sea level with standing SCP-XXXX-2. This parallel reality undergoes a nearly constant downpour of SCP-XXXX-2, with the exception of 15 minute period from 6:30 am EST to 6:45 am EST where the downpour slows to a stop over the span of 30 seconds. The clouds within SCP-XXXX never break, making plant growth impossible due to lack of sunlight.
No living plant or animal life, including humans, has been observed. Foundation personnel have observed minor amounts of fungal life, such as Penicillium, and some forms of bacteria.
SCP-XXXX-2 is the water from within SCP-XXXX that exhibits anomalous properties when ingested by animals. Subjects begin experiencing signs of fatigue shortly after ingestion of samples, with symptoms growing worse exponentially as time passes until subject becomes unconscious, typically within less than an hour. Subjects remain unconscious in proportion to how much SCP-XXXX-2 they consumed, with an approximate 6 ounces of SCP-XXXX-2 equaling 16 hours of time unconscious.
Attempts to wake subjects from this unconscious state result in immediate cardiac arrest and without medical intervention, shortly after death. Subjects kept from falling unconscious quickly exhibit signs of sleep deprivation, progressing within 2 hours of water ingestion into symptoms of paranoia, extreme fatigue, hallucinations, and seizures.
SCP-XXXX-2 samples from SCP-XXXX show no oddities in their chemical makeup and no foreign elements not present in samples of salt water of our native reality. Mixing SCP-XXXX-2 with water from our native reality does not result in the water exhibiting the same properties as SCP-XXXX-2, but does make the recovery of SCP-XXXX-2 impossible as the sample mixes with the water.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a spatial anomaly located at ████ Hillcrest Rd in Elk City, Idaho, United States of America. SCP-XXXX is accessible via a door on the second floor of the property's main building.
Entering the door leads to a nearly identical copy of the property which has minor differences in the surrounding foliage density. The topology surrounding the property is nearly identical to that of the area surrounding the entrance to SCP-XXXX, with minor differences in some natural structures and population centers.
Foundation personnel have speculated that SCP-XXXX is a "parallel reality" to our own. SCP-XXXX appears to be absent anomalous activity, entities, or objects aside from the entrance to SCP-XXXX itself. There are significant human populations within SCP-XXXX equivalent to our native reality who have managed to advance to almost the same technological level as our native reality. Humans within SCP-XXXX appear to be physiologically and psychologically identical to humans of our native reality.
SCP-XXXX-1 is a 46-year-old, Caucasian, male Type-C reality bender. SCP-XXXX-1 possesses significant anomalous capabilities such as spontaneous creation and destruction of organic and inorganic matter, transmutation, wide-scale terraforming, thought editing, compulsion, and information creation and destruction. SCP-XXXX-1 is able to effect 98.7% of humans with 99.4% totality, and the remaining 1.3% of humans with 57.3% totality. However, SCP-XXXX-1 does not appear to be aware of its anomalous capabilities.
SCP-XXXX-1 appears to be convinced that it is a standard human male with significant talent in the skill of "lucid dreaming", to the point SCP-XXXX-1 is convinced it can pull other sleeping individuals into its own dream. SCP-XXXX-1 appears to be unaware of the nature of SCP-XXXX. To date, SCP-XXXX-1 has not performed any significant anomalous actions outside of SCP-XXXX.
Due to the significant threat posed by SCP-XXXX-1 and significant opportunity SCP-XXXX-1 presents, Foundation command has ordered cooperation with SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX-1 originally reached out to academic organizations and was discovered by the SCP Foundation while seeking a group to study its perceived anomalous abilities. The Foundation was able to intervene and have been posing as a sleep research team living on SCP-XXXX-1's property for the past 13 months.
Addendum XXXX.1: Containment Breach Event
Date: 12/16/████
[LOG BEGINS]
6:40 AM - Activity at STF Station Chicago-15 appears to be normal, with all STF members asleep in their bunks.
6:41 AM - STF Chicago-15-C awakens, stands up from her bunk, approaches the circuit breaker box, and eliminates power to STF Station Chicago-15. Cameras attempt to route to auxiliary power sources but fail on 13 attempts before being disabled, presumably by STF Chicago-15-C.
6:44 AM - Remote Monitoring Station-16 observes lost feeds and contacts Observation Post-XXXX to corroborate information. Observation Post-XXXX reports no changes on their feeds.
6:46 AM - Camera-1, -5, -7, -8, and -9 monitoring the area surrounding Observation Post-XXXX lose feed simultaneously. Feed loss is notified to Remote Monitoring Station-16. Observation Post-XXXX is notified to standby for more information.
6:47 AM - Technician Adam Frost is woken up and dispatched along with Agent Jones to check on camera failure.
6:50 AM -Agent Jones and Technician Frost are observable on Camera-3 leaving Observation Post-XXXX.
6:52 AM -//Observation Post-XXXX is notified by Remote Monitoring Station-16 about the events that transpired at 6:41 AM. Backup is rerouted to their position with an estimated arrival time of 7:38 AM.
6:53 AM - Agent Jones and Technician Frost are observable on Camera-4.
6:55 AM - Camera-2, -3, -4, -6, and -10 lose feed simultaneously. Observation Post staff arm themselves in preparation for hostiles.
6:56 AM - Dr. Adam Brown, tertiary assistant researcher on SCP-XXXX, arms himself and executes project lead Dr. Whitmore from behind. He then opens fire on primary assistant researcher Dr. McGinn and secondary assistant researcher Dr. Williams. Dr. McGinn sustains one shot to the shoulder and falls to the ground where she presumably falls unconscious. Dr. Williams sustains three shots to the torso and dies.
6:57 AM - An unknown team of five military personnel breach Observation Post XXXX with an explosion on the south wall, disorienting staff inside. Identities are unknown due to the presence of ski-masks and goggles. Internal Camera-3 loses feed. The group execute all staff members except Dr. Brown.
6:58 AM - Dr. Brown cuts sound recording feed from cameras but leaves visual feed intact. This appears to have been intentional.
6:58 AM - The apparent lead of the military group walks towards Internal Camera-1 and removes his mask before looking into the camera, smiling, and winking. The individual was later identified as Michael Anagnos, known associate of the Chaos Insurgency. Anagnos then turns toward SCP-XXXX and waits outside of it with Brown.
7:00 AM - SCP-XXXX-1 emerges from SCP-XXXX with Researcher Simons. Simons is executed by Anagnos

Addendum XXXX.2: Sample of Recovered Documents
For full document log see: Document XXXX-C
Document XXXX-C-1: Transcription of partially preserved audio newscast dated ██/██/████
First 37 seconds of broadcast are unrecoverable dead air. The audio begins suddenly and appears to be a male speaking.
Earlier today, the area north of the Harlem River and south of Mt. Vernon was subsumed. When asked about the decision, the Lucid stated that, “Parents in the Bronx are the laziest bastards I’ve ever known. Their kids are undisciplined brats. I didn’t want them around anymore.”
Former residents of that area not present during subsumation are encouraged to seek out refugee centers to attain temporary shelter and await reassignment to one of the country’s many remaining prosperous farms. Remember, if you can’t remember living somewhere, then your home probably no longer exists! It’s all a part of the Lucid’s whims orchestrating his grand plan! If the thought of your home being subsumed fills you with an abstract, confusing, and distant feeling of grief, please notify a counselor at your refugee shelter. You may be experiencing a feeling of loss for a loved one, treasured object, pet, or sense of security.
Refugees from the Pan-American Feather-less Dinosaur Preserve continue to pour into cities seeking shelter and reassignment after their former homes were converted into a climate capable of sustaining the massive reptiles. The Lucid is expected to make a visit to the Preserve later this week on a safari hunting trip. All refugees are reminded not to approach the Lucid’s Fortress of Solitude in Virginia. While the Fortress is composed of rock candy, consuming anything the Lucid owns can result quickly in subsumation should he discover the offending act. While our great empire is experiencing a significant food crisis, remember, 4 out of 4 Returned agree that death is better than being subsumed.
The Lucid’s Dictated Mars Discovery Shuttle met with an unfortunate end this week as an off-hand comment from the Lucid returned the planet to existence as the Shuttle approached. Flight crew appear to have lost control due to sudden gravitational forces. NASA are hoping to get a secondary mission operational soon. The remaining astrological bodies scientists suggest should exist have not been returned from their subsumated state. The current solar system is now comprised of the Sun, Earth, the Moon, Mars, and Pluto.
At least 76 are dead as fires from riots continue to spread in New America-
4 minutes and 13 seconds of unrecoverable dead air before tape ends.
Manifesto of the Golden Mourning
We’ve decided to leave this behind as a record of our existence. Hopefully if you’re finding this document we succeeded and our story has already been told. If it hasn’t, then I’m hoping that by misspelling our organization’s name on this document it’ll be spared when we fail and we’re subsumed. If you can still comprehend of the words alluded to by my misspelling, we either weren’t subsumed and something else happened or you’re one of the few who he can’t completely effect. You’re like us and it might be your turn to carry on for us.
This world isn’t the Old Bastard’s dream. It’s our nightmare. And I don’t know if we can ever fix it, but we have to try. I miss the world.
We drowned the world. I think it was because of the Lucid? Or the old man? People didn’t like him.
Who were they?
Who were who?
The Lucid and the old man?
They just were. They were the same and yet they were separate. Not everybody could call him the old man. Too many holes in their heads.
She rubs her head.
I think the holes in mine are just a little smaller.
Who was he? Can you remember?
He was the Lucid. Was he God? No… But maybe? It’s hard to remember, so many holes. But I know people didn’t like him. I think I understand why. He changed a lot of things, made up his own rules we had to follow, and he was mean to people. But I think maybe most people liked him because they all got sad…
What do you mean by ‘people didn’t like him’? Why didn’t people like him?
Oh, he was mean. He showed up one day and started changing everything. He would tell people to love him and they would. He told women to have sex with him and they did. It was mean. And then he made things worse, if he didn’t like someone he would subsume them away. That’s what he called it. We were his dream so he just made us go away. There was no room in the dream for them. If he really didn’t like something he’d take away all of it. He thought some things were right and some things were wrong. He made the right right, he subsumed the wrong. He made our home a dreamland where he could play however he wanted. He was really mean. I don’t think anybody liked him. So one day, I remember it, they decided to hurt him.
Please, go on.
Someone was really mad at him so they hurt him. A gold man? Or I think it was a woman? Or maybe more than one person? She hit him. They hit the old man and split open his head. Then everything would go back to normal. That was the dream. A dream to end the nightmare. But it didn’t.
Pause.
I think that everybody really liked him. Those first few days everybody was really sad. They’d get close to the Lucid to try and help the old man, and then they’d see he was hurt and they’d become weepers. They didn’t stop crying. Nobody stopped crying. They cried and cried and cried until there was nothing left in any bit of them except dust. Then they stopped crying. I think the old man remembered that getting hurt was sad. And crying makes you so tired, doesn’t it? They cried when they fell asleep forever. I think it was probably the tears. Drinking the tears is like crying and it made them fall asleep faster. Then the sky started crying. It must have been so sad for the old man it turned into a weeper itself. And then everyone drank the tears. It was all that was left. Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink. Everyone got sleep full. Some of us got sleep less. And then the world drowned with everyone else. Do you think the stars are still up there? Did they run away with the moon and the sun? Or did they fall asleep cause they were so sleep full like everyone else? I used to watch the stars, I think…
Come back to me, you mentioned a dream? What do you mean by this being a dream?
That’s what he called us. He said he must’ve fallen asleep, he was so old, and we were his dream. He said he was a lucid dreamer, read a book or two on it, and so he could make up the rules of his dream. I don’t know why he called us that. I don’t think we’re a dream. I remember being here before we became his dream…
I think I was the one who drowned the world… Or maybe that was just a bad dream… Why doesn’t anyone dream us a better world anymore?
