Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is currently contained in a standard upright containment locker in Safe Wing-A at Site-XX.

Personnel are advised to not remove SCP-XXXX from its opaque plastic sleeve outside of testing. While its effect is not considered a cognitohazard, but caution is advised. Following exposure to SCP-XXXX, subjects are required to log the text perceived. The overseeing researcher (Dr. Sauer) may request a Level 0 psychological evaluation of the subject.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a rear license plate manufactured in D█████, Germany between 1998 and 2004, with dimensions 53cm x 15cm. The object is has been severely scratched around its lower right corner.

SCP-XXXX's anomalous property manifests when a person deliberately attempts to read or identify the characters on the object. Such a person will be unable to, and will instead percieve a unique message seemingly intended to insult or verbally abuse them specifically. These insults appear to be constructed with knowledge of the subject's state of mind, language proficiency, and private thoughts such as the subject's personal insecurities and memories. Upon exposure, subjects are usually overcome with great irritation, anger or embarrassment; It is believed this is a natural response to the effect and not a secondary anomalous effect of SCP-XXXX.

The nature of SCP-XXXX persists through digital and analogue photographs, physical imprints of the object, and other indirect means of viewing its inscription. Subjects describe the text as fitting within the bounds of the plate, no matter how lengthy it is, but still clearly readable at great distances.

Discovery: SCP-XXXX was discovered on ██/08/2005 on the site of a minor automobile collision on the E██ highway in the Czech Republic, near the German border. According to testimony, a traffic police vehicle was in pursuit of a speeding utility truck of unknown make and model, when the officer driving spotted SCP-XXXX attached to the pursued vehicle and attempted to identify it. The officer admitted to recklessly driving into the vehicle out of anger, damaging both vehicles and detaching SCP-XXXX. A Foundation agent embedded in regional law enforcement recovered the object after 3 days, and Class-A amnestics were successfully administered to all officers involved.
