Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: The area surrounding SCP-XXXX is to be monitored by CCTV cameras and regular patrols along the fence line. Meeting places local to the area have been bugged to flag any mention of the lake. Any individual with knowledge of the lake is to be questioned and given appropriate amnestics.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a body of water located in ██████████. No undertaken test of the water has identified anomalies, and the water behaves typically when left alone. However, when a living human makes physical contact with SCP-XXXX, the water will darken and increase in viscosity. The rate and intensity of this process varies, even between visits by the same individual. While their explanation is unconfirmed, natives of the area believed it to be connected to the past of the person interacting with SCP-XXXX, specifically the amount of "regret" they have. (footnote here linking to interview) Preliminary testing appears to agree with the claims, with D-Class subjects evaluated for psychosis1 interacting with SCP-XXXX having little to no effect on the water.

SCP-XXXX was initially discovered when an individual on a "dartboard vacation" posted pictures to social media regarding strange water that turned dark when he stepped in. Appropriate actions were taken to suppress the spread of the information. See Interview XXXX-1.

Interviewer: TBD

Foreword: Interview regarding SCP-XXXX

<Begin Log>

Interviewer: So, tell us about what you saw in ██████████.

Person: I told you all already, I'm just a tourist and I saw a weird lake, I didn't do anything.

Interviewer: The sooner you clarify what happened, the sooner you can be on your way with your…vacation.

Person: I was wandering inland, hoping to find somewhere to get a drink before I got back on my boat. I saw a trail leading off the main road and got curious. The water was clear so I figured I'd take a dip. It had been hot the past few days, and I thought I'd be regarded a little better by the locals if I didn't smell like a bum.

Interviewer: And from here, according to your statement, "The water turned dark and…sloshy." Please clarify.

Person: It turned dark, like I had ink all over me when I stepped in. I was only in about a foot or so, but I tripped trying to get out of the water to get a photo and nearly lost my sunglasses. It was like walking through thick mud, but the surface was crystal clear before that. I took the picture to put online later, then you all showed up about an hour later. Can I go now? I never got that drink I was after.

<End Log>

Closing Statement: The individual was given Class B amnestics and later released, believing they had been found after losing consciousness from dehydration.
