Containment: Due to the size and generally unknown extent-of-effect, SCP-4098 is treated as its own autonomous SCP site, and has the outward appearance of a Polish military base, including 30 foot walls of solid concrete. It is unclear how far below the Earth SCP-4098’s effects extend but we have found no evidence that it affects anything above its tree line. Nonetheless the airspace above SCP-4098 is strictly monitored. Images of the area received by satellite or airborne camera equipment (other than those taken with SCP authority) are regularly altered to reflect SCP-4098’s designation as a military base.
Description: SCP-4098 is a large, evergreen forest located within the “Rudway Janowicklie” subregion of Poland. Taking up an area of exactly 12 kilometres (or 7.45 miles), SCP-4098 visually stands out as the relative area wherein it exists is largely grasslands and hills. SCP-4098 has been the basis for a famous folktale within Polish lore due to its most hazardous and outstanding property: anything that enters its deeper perimeter (measured to be roughly 700 feet in) disappears. The area approaching SCP-4098 greatly affects electronic equipment, as well as disturbs magnetic devices. Several authorities have ruled out subterranean investigations due to the seriously dangerous and unpredictable nature of SCP-4098. Site 823, the site dedicated to containing SCP-4098, is awaiting expendable subjects to send further into the forest.
Samples have been taken of the trees, grass, dirt, and other present flora. However, there were no discernible anomalies in these samples. SCP-4098 was previously investigated by both the special sciences division of the German Nazi regime in the 1940s as well as the USSR’s own “extranormal” authority until 1992. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the SCP swiftly established Site 823 and began work on securing the surrounding farm area. All records made by either the German or Russian investigations have since been archived under strict Level 4 clearance. In recognition of its hazards, the lead Soviet figures who presided over SCP-4098 convinced the local populous the forest was burned to the ground in a weapons testing malfunction.
As it has seemingly existed since at least the mid 1600s, SCP-4098 has been colloquially referred to as Niewykonalny Las, directly translating to “Unbeing Forest”. Unbeing is loosely understood to mean impossible or lacking of existence. This name has been cleared by higher-ups for release as it seems rigorous, subversive works by both the Nazis and Soviets killed off the perpetuation of the local fable before it was recorded digitally.
Addendum-SCP-4098-1:
It has been made aware to containment personnel and other pertinent parties that at different times benign staff members experience visual phenomena, such as fire flies, smoke and embers, butterflies, and other such eye-catching stimuli. At no point have any research related staff seen these phenomena, nor has video footage or photographs recorded any corroborating evidence. Dr. Hyler and Investigator Spance have taken to interrogating the individuals who reported these sightings. Site 823 has since relocated said individuals to other sites as all reported a near overwhelming drive to walk toward the stimuli.
