Item #: SCP-6285 - The Putrefaction
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-6285 is to be contained inside of the village where it was first discovered. A 7x7 kilometers reinforced steel dome has been set up to prevent any air from coming out and SCP-6285-1 from breaching. Though this is only a temporary containment as the evolving and mutation of SCP-6285 is unpredictable. Further research and studies are needed for permanent containment.
At all times, containment of SCP-6285 is to be kept at an extremely low temperature of minus 40 degrees Celcius in which the Virus is constrained and limited in its activities. By using a highly developed cooling system, a total of over a hundred of them has proven to be successful in preventing SCP-6285-1 and SCP-6285-2 advancements.
Though over time, SCP-6285 has developed cold resistance in which the temperature must be further lowered. Armed Personals are to be sent if SCP-6285-1 has any intentions of breaching through the walls of containment. Personals are equipped with flamethrowers to incinerate SCP 6285-1, during this the temperature will be slightly lowered in order to compensate for the heat. Afterward, all personal's cloth, items will be incinerated to avert from becoming SCP-6285-2 and be cleaned with disinfection chemicals.
In events of a breach on the date [REDACTED], the temperature has been dropped to minus 60 degrees Celcius. At this rate, SCP-6285 is possible to even overcome Absolute Zero, and the containment procedure will be switched over to using intense heat to neutralize.
It is unwise to fully incinerate SCP 6285-1 as this may trigger some unknown and uncertain traits of SCP-6285, additional research is continuously conducted to fully understand its true core before it reaches presumably its ultimate stage.
Description: SCP-6285 is an ancient, fast-spreading, purple fungus of unknown origin that is capable of reanimating the dead however, only humans are affected, and transforming them into more horrific identities that will be known as SCP-6285-1. Upon contact with any human corpses, SCP-6285 will begin to rapidly restore any living functions even if any organs are missing, heavily damaged, or poisoned and sustain the host from rotting away. At first stage upon discovery, SCP-6285 was able to perform under 3 hours and 56 minutes. As time went on, it has seemed to "evolve", decreasing the necessary time to the current 34 minutes.
When in contact with the fungus, it shoots out microscopic dark-purple spores into the air. The spores will then travel by air, if there are any dead bodies in its vicinity, whether it is deep underground or water, it will cling onto the remains of the body and begin the process of reanimation. Though for any living organisms, it also clings onto their bodies but without them noticing. This is a form of transportation for SCP-6285 to spread at a greater pace and distance, these subjects are called SCP-6285-2.
Subjects that are reanimated by SCP-6285 suffer from having their muscle mass being greatly reduced regardless of they were only the skeletal system in the first place, leaving behind visible bare-bones, most of their organs are gone, leaving behind only the brain which functions normally and having tiny purple fungus growing on their head. Despite the significant and abnormal changes to their bodies, subjects informed that they were fine, even not noticing anything strange, feeling better than their "previous" life, and do not need to eat, drink or sleep to sustain themselves. They are able to carry out daily tasks, work, and exercise without any issues. Though when exposed to high temperature of exactly over 50 degrees Celcius or low temperature of approximately minus 5 degrees Celcius, subjects began to act hostile towards everyone and will attack by biting, claw if seen, heard, or smell in the vicinity of 20 meters. 1 hour 23 minutes later, subjects calm down and don't remember what has happened.
On the 14th day after their resurrection, subjects screamed and yelled for help in pain as sharp white solid objects begun to penetrate their skin. The objects appear spontaneously and randomly on their body but mostly on their limbs and back, more particularly the wrist, forearm, arm, and knee. Subjects then have the tendency to become uttermost hostile, using these sharp objects to attack any human it sees. The objects were soon to be identified as bones though strangely, these extra bones are covered in an invisible gooey substance which seemed to harden the bones and enfolded the wounds tightly where the bones grow out. Afterward, their strength, agility, and stamina were improved tremendously and every time they were wounded, the substance patches the wounds, however disembodiment of limbs or the extra bones cannot be regenerated.
A breach occurred involving 16 individuals, through observation, they were able to pierce through metal doors with enough time and effort. 14 armed security guards were sent into their containment to neutralize though they were quickly overwhelmed as live ammunition did wound the subjects like a normal human but this would only enrage it to attack more aggressively. The breach ended in 46 minutes, resulting in a casualty of 8 researchers, 4 class D that were trying to escape, 9 guards. 12 of the individuals were neutralized through the use of flamethrowers, the other 4 were captured and further testing was provided after [REDACTED] days after containment breach.
