Item #: SCP-4291
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4291 is to be secured outside, within the centre of a sectioned off area with a diameter of 400 meters 800 meters [See Addendum-01] located at Site-██. This area is to be fitted with 1 Scranton Reality Anchor at each corner, which are to be examined for necessary repairs 3 times per day. No individuals are permitted past the border of SCP-4291's containment area except for 4 D-Class, who will each be provided with sufficient provisions to spend 2 days in close proximity to SCP-4291, after which they will be replaced on a bi-weekly rotational system. Each D-Class is to be fitted with an additional, specially adapted portable Scranton Reality Anchor. An additional 4 D-Class will be stationed around the perimeter, also equipped with portable Scranton Reality Anchors and accompanied by containment specialists.
Upon initiation of a Ghost Event, the assigned D-Class are to approach SCP-4291 and manually deactivate it. This must be done within the first 14 seconds of activation. If these D-Class are rendered unable to do so, the backup D-Class group will be escorted from the perimeter to SCP-4291 by containment specialists via high speed utility vehicles.
Description: SCP-4291 is a black and red, retro-style record player with an unmarked record attached, which is incapable of being removed from said record player. It is unknown whether the record player, the record itself, or both are responsible for all anomalous properties and such both items are to be collectively regarded as one singular item, SCP-4291.
SCP-4291 is unable to be manually activated, with all components being fixed into place and unaffected by exertion of any level of physical force. However, SCP-4291 is capable of activating independently and without any source of power. These activations - referred to as "Ghost Events" - have so far within Foundation containment occurred no sooner than within 1 hour of each other and no longer than within 1 month of each other. Upon initiation of a Ghost Event, SCP-4291 will activate and an unknown cover of "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" by American rock band Blue Öyster Cult will begin to play. All audible instruments and vocals throughout the song have been identified as out of tune, but to a barely noticeable extent.
No anomalous properties - except for the SCP-4291's self-activation - occur before the 14 second mark of the song, at the introduction of the vocals. At this point in this track, a "bubble" of effect will begin to expand from SCP-4291, at a calculated rate of 5 meters per second. The application of Scranton Reality Anchors to SCP-4291 will reduce this rate to 2.5 meters per second, but will not cease the process altogether. All organic matter that comprises sentient beings within this area of influence during a "ghost event" will undergo a continual loss of corporeal form, and extensive observation aided by the employment of Kant counters suggest that the SCP-4291's area of influence experiences a rapid loss of Hume level.
Additionally, at the 14 second mark of the track, a non-corporeal entity hereby refered to as SCP-4291-1 will appear to levitate roughly 50 centimeters above SCP-4291, maintaining a synchronized rotation with the record. SCP-4291-1 appears to be a humanoid figure in a white hooded robe, with a noticeable black hole within its chest cavity. From the point of SCP-4291-1's emergence, it will continuously become more visibly opaque and gain corporeal form at a rate which matches that of the lost corporeality by all affected matter.
Despite being impossible to manually activate, SCP-4291 does allow for manual deactivation, simply by removal of the needle from the record. Nothing else can interrupt the track, as SCP-4291 has proven to be physically indestructible. Upon termination of a Ghost Event, SCP-4291-1 will dissapear entirely and the affected area's general Hume level immediately returns to normal. However all organisms affected will continue to lose corporeality until they are rendered effectively non-existent. The radius of this effect reached by the end of an event will then become the starting radius for the next event.
The consequences of allowing SCP-4291 to complete a full playthrough of the track are unknown.
