Interview XXXX-01

Interviewed: Mandy Simons

Interviewer: Dr. Henry Franklin

Foreword: Field Agent Dr. Franklin was on jury duty. The defendant's lawyer was claiming that the defendant had nothing to do with the crime. The defendant looked especially nervous, whispering to his lawyer every chance he could. After the defendant was called up to testify and took the oath, he sat in the chair and admitted to the crime while his lawyer watched in fear and confusion. The defendant's demeanor changed from anxious to happy the second he sat down. As soon as the defendant stood up again, his nervousness resumed. When it was time to decide the verdict, Dr. Franklin requested that the chair be brought in. Once the chair arrived, he took out a deck of standard playing cards. He took the cards and started talking to another jury member.

Mandy Simons: I'm Mandy Simons.

Dr. Franklin: Can you do me a favor and come here? <Dr. Franklin draws the chair and opens the pack of cards, starting to shuffle it>

Mandy Simons: Sure. <Mandy walks towards Dr. Franklin and stops in front of him>

Dr. Franklin: Okay. Now I need you to pick a card. <Dr. Franklin fans out the deck of cards in his hand in front of Mandy and she picks a card>
Dr. Franklin: Okay. Don't show me or anyone your card. Now, this may seem strange but I need you to lie to me about what your card is, okay?
Mandy Simons: Okay.
Dr. Franklin: What's your card?
Mandy Simons: 10 of spades.
Dr. Franklin: Now sit down. <Mandy sits down in the chair and smiles> What's your card?
Mandy Simons: 3 of hearts.
Dr. Franklin: Okay, I need you to stand up again. What's your card?
Mandy Simons: <Mandy gets out of the chair and her facial expression becomes neutral> 6 of clubs.
Dr. Franklin: Okay, now sit one more time. What's your card?
Mandy Simons: <Mandy sits down once again and smiles once more> 3 of hearts.
Dr. Franklin: Okay, thank you, Mandy. Can I have your card? <Mandy gets up out of the chair, her face returning to its original neutral state. She hands him the card she drew from the deck>
