Equipment at █████████ refinery, prior to designation as Site-XXXX-B.

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX itself is to be contained inside separate 200-litre oil drums. These drums are to be stored in standard biological containment units located in Site-XXXX-A and Site-XXXX-B, each unit containing approximately 78 and 8,035 thousand drums respectively.1 The oil well located at Site-XXXX-A has been sealed with a cement plug.2

Two teams of Mobile Task Force Beta-38 ("Texas Teaboys") are to inspect the drums containing SCP-XXXX for signs of structural damage on a bi-weekly basis. In the event of a structural breach, MTF Beta-38 is to conduct structural repairs and/or introduce re-containment protocol XXXX-β on a case-by-case basis.

Up-to-date status of individual drums containing SCP-XXXX located in Site-XXXX-A/XXXX-B can be found in Containment Log XXXX-A/XXXX-B, respectively. No unauthorized humanoid entities are allowed within the biological containment units containing SCP-XXXX at any point.

Description: SCP-XXXX is the designation given to approximately 1.5 million metric tonnes of petroleum recovered at the █████████ oil derrick and refinery, now designated Site-XXXX-A and Site-XXXX-B, respectively. The biological material that composes SCP-XXXX is typical to that of crude oil drilled off the southeastern coast of Texas circa 1938.

The primary anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX become apparent when an individual approaches an oil drum containing SCP-XXXX, at which point a low whispering sound can be heard from inside the barrel, originating from SCP-XXXX. Recorded surveillance of audio produced by SCP-XXXX has shown that these whispers do not form coherent language, but instead sound similar to mimicry of the English language by non-native speakers.3 SCP-XXXX's primary anomalous property is not observed when approached by non-humanoid entities, or when under remote audio surveillance.

The secondary anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX become apparent if any amount of SCP-XXXX is not fully contained within an oil drum, then classified as an instance of SCP-XXXX-1. At this point, SCP-XXXX-1 will propel itself along the ground by an as-of-yet unknown method of locomotion towards the closest extant unit of SCP-XXXX,4 at which point it will attempt to breach the integrity of the oil drum SCP-XXXX is contained in by way of [DATA EXPUNGED]. Any amount of SCP-XXXX that is released in this manner subsequently joins SCP-XXXX-1. This process is continued unless SCP-XXXX-1 comes into contact with a humanoid entity, or until the composition of SCP-XXXX-1 consists of all local units of SCP-XXXX, at which point SCP-XXXX-1 will attempt to further breach containment and progress to the next Site containing instances of SCP-XXXX.

If at any point SCP-XXXX-1 is encountered by a humanoid entity, regardless of proximity to extant instances of SCP-XXXX, SCP-XXXX-1 will attempt to [DATA EXPUNGED]. See Addendum XXXX-2: Initial Recovery Log.

Addendum XXXX-1: Recovered Document XXXX-A

Document XXXX-A consists of relevant excerpts from the journal of Thomas ██████, an engineer servicing the █████████ oil refinery as part of an unscheduled inspection prior to containment of SCP-XXXX. Digital copies of the full journal are available upon request, pending approval from Site Director Prather.

Addendum XXXX-2: Initial Recovery Log

SCP-XXXX was initially discovered following a distress call made by a worker employed at the █████████ oil refinery on 08/20/1940. Foundation personnel stationed at the corporate offices of the ██████ Telephone Dispatch intercepted the call and informed local Foundation assets of a possible anomalous entity.

During initial recovery, [DATA EXPUNGED]5, resulting in the loss of █ Foundation operatives and an estimated ██ civilian casualties before proper safety measures regarding the containment of SCP-XXXX could be assessed and executed.
