SCP-XXXX upon discovery

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to to be kept within a locked containment chamber at all times. The external components are to be inspected after each activation and cleaned of any rust / blood residue by D-class personnel. Any foreign objects capable of fitting completely inside SCP-XXXX’s intake box (20cm x 20cm x 10cm) should never be present inside the containment chamber in order to reduce the risk of accidental activation, unless required for maintenance or approved experimentation. As the inside of SCP-XXXX is self-cleaning, personnel are not to enter SCP-XXXX during maintenance. Should SCP-XXXX become active, no attempt should be made to tamper with the device until operation has ceased.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a large medical device consisting of metal exterior, a circular hinged door, and an attached metal box with a faded label reading “intake”. While dormant, the interior of SCP-XXXX contains a horizontal metal platform 2.5 meters in length, with interior walls and ceiling composed of metal sheets separated by grooves.

SCP-XXXX will become active only when both (1) a single live human is inside the main compartment, and (2) a foreign object is in the “intake” box. Once both conditions are met, the interior and intake doors will lock and SCP-XXXX will begin to work autonomously. The source of the device’s power is currently under investigation, as SCP-XXXX activation seems to require no external power source.

Once activated, the interior walls of SCP-XXXX fold away to reveal multitudinous thin mechanical arms, each equipped with a single surgical tool. Video footage and accounts from surviving D-class personnel has been used to estimate that at least 400 of these arms are present inside SCP-XXXX. Observed surgical tools currently include scalpels, scissors, bone cutters, forceps, surgical needles, needle-tipped syringes containing saline, anesthetics, and [REDACTED], as well as searing instruments.

During operation, SCP-XXXX will utilize hundreds of these arms simultaneously to replace an organ or tissue belonging to the enclosed person (henceforth referred to at the “patient”) with the object inserted in the “intake” slot. SCP-XXXX has been documented to replace portions of the skeletal, digestive, nervous, circulatory, respiratory, and reproductive systems, with varying levels of success. Anesthetic will only be administered during operations which would otherwise cause the patient to enter pain-induced shock. Once tissue has been removed and the provided object inserted in its place, SCP-XXXX will attempt to restructure surrounding tissues to accommodate the new “organ”. Afterwards, SCP-XXXX will close and disinfect all incisions, and all removed tissue will be placed in the “intake” slot, regardless of condition. A chime will sound, and the doors to both the interior and intake box will unlock, signaling the end of operation.

The life expectancy of patients post-operation varies widely, with some surviving mere seconds after surgery and others having their lifespans seemingly unaffected. Currently, no deaths have occurred during active SCP-XXXX operation the only death recorded to have occured inside SCP-XXX was when Dr. ████████ attempted to [DATA EXPUNGED] the device during testing on subject D-█████. SCP-XXXX responded by injecting the patient with approximately █mg of potassium chloride. After near-immediate cardiac arrest and death of the patient, SCP-XXXX operation ceased and both doors were unlocked, with a loud buzzer replacing the usual chime sound.

TESTING LOG

Test 08/██/17
Subject: D-5560, Caucasian Male, 37 years old, 85kg, 176cm
Intake: Rubber ball, 4cm in diameter
Output: Nearly-intact human heart and various tissue.
Notes: Upon activation, SCP-XXXX administered anesthetic before dividing the subject's breastbone to expose the heart. SCP-XXXX produced and connected surgical tubing to the major arteries surround the heart, in order to keep the patient's blood oxygenated. SCP-XXXX then worked for 49 minutes removing D-5560's heart.

After all major tissue had been cleared, the rubber ball was divided using surgical wire into four chambers of roughly equal size, and inserted into the patient's chest cavity. SCP-XXXX then re-connected the major arteries to various chambers of the ball, and wrapped it in residual cardiac muscle tissue, causing the ball to contract and expand in a fashion similar to that of a beating heart. SCP-XXXX reconnected the breastbone using surgical wire and closed all incisions before finishing.

Subject was able to exit SCP-XXXX unaided and stood without assistance for approximately 7 seconds before fainting. Despite assistance from on-site medical staff, D-5560 died due to lack of circulation within 10 minutes.
