Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept within an enclosure that superficially emulates an operational enclosed shopping center.
Specifications include:
- Emulated storefronts
- Lighting
- Humanoid dummies on tracks as "patrons"
- A fixed schedule emulating that of opening and closing periods, with lights and "patrons" operational from 9 A.M. to 11 P.M.
Any employee may come in contact with SCP-XXXX and move it. Although its activity is increased during "closed" hours, the object will not move in the presence of anything it perceives as a sentient humanoid.
A total of 50 security cameras capture every area within the enclosure. Screens in the control room will regularly experience obscuring, white blots when SCP-XXXX is in the respective camera's line of sight. At least one display will be disrupted by at all times.
The enclosure entrance is the "WcWonalds" maintenance closet and is to be locked at all times.
If SCP-XXXX is suspected of leaving, inspect the security camera last disrupted by it and check the feed for shallow wheel imprints in the floor. If it is too dark to see the floor, do not enter the enclosure, and do not turn on the lights; wait for the "open" period and then check the feed or enter the enclosure. If there are imprints on the floor, then it has left the enclosure and the incident is to be reported to a level-3 employee.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a coin-operated ride or a "kiddie ride." It consists of a hydraulic mount, a platform, and a coin repository. The words "RIDE QUACKERS" are illustrated in yellow and white on its side.
The mount seems to be based on a Disney character, Donald Duck, but is severely off-model with the body proportions being warped. The platform is blue, with a black wire on the front-facing side, and is elevated off the ground by wheels. The coin repository is held up by a black metal bar and reaches up to the chest of the mount. The coin repository only takes U.S. quarters.
If a quarter is inserted, Quackers will lurch back and forth, as expected of a coin-operated ride. Any attempt to retrieve currency from the repository has failed.
Because analog and digital means of rendering SCP-XXXX are ineffectual, illustrations of SCP-XXXX have been provided by a foundation employee.
Recorded Phenomena
Before containment, an anomaly occurring within the shopping center that SCP-XXXX was discovered in was monitored from 1992 to 2004. The anomaly involved financial struggle and the eventual closing of every storefront west of SCP-XXXX. New ventures were opened only to close within the year and foot traffic remained sparse. However, the storefronts east of SCP-XXXX had all been in steady operation for decades with heavy foot traffic. This pattern continued in shopping centers SCP-XXXX escaped to when it left previous enclosures and remained for extended periods of time.
SCP-XXXX always faces west; will move to face west if not facing west.
All photography and video recording of SCP-XXX will universally result in obscured renderings.
Movement of SCP-XXXX occurs an hour into the enclosure's "closed" period and when no employees are present inside. SCP-XXXX will often return to its original location an hour before the "opening" period begins.
SCP-XXXX will leave enclosures that do not emulate a sheltered shopping center, regardless of security measures taken. The method SCP-XXXX uses to leave produces four shallow wheel imprints on the floor where it was last located.
Tests regarding the placement of other attractions within the enclosure confirm that SCP-XXXX will move to and remain in line with attractions placed in a hallway.
Within an authentic enclosed shopping center, all businesses west of SCP-XXXX experience little foot traffic while all business east of SCP-XXXX experience heavy foot traffic. Once SCP-XXXX is removed from a shopping center, the entire facility will experience a steady loss of patrons.
As of 20. 05. 2008, __ Richmond, Virginia U.S.A., where SCP-XXXX was originally discovered in has been shut down and rendered defunct.
Shopping centers exposed to SCP-XXXX during departures from containment have seen a considerable decline in patrons with businesses liquidating storefronts at alarming rates since SCP-XXXX's recovery from each location.
