SCP #### - Reflective Fax Machine
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-#### is to be kept in a standard safe containment cell. The cell is not lit by a ceiling fixture, however a wide beam flashlight is to be kept in a locked safe within the room, accessible by minimum Level 3 site staff as well as other designated staff. SCP should face away from the entrance to the containment cell.
Description: SCP is a mirror measuring over 6 meters in height and 4 meters in width. The sides of the mirror are made of Greek style columns. The top of the mirror is covered in a thick mass of bougainvillea, which does not respond negatively to lack of water or low light conditions. The plant mass can only be removed from the mirror small amounts at a time, and any removed mass quickly grows back.
Individuals who stand in front of SCP for several minutes will begin to experience severe nausea and pain in the knees and shins. Subjects also report an awareness of the anomalous effects of SCP, regardless of how informed they are of those effects before exposure to SCP. After an amount of time varying from fifteen minutes to roughly one hour the reflection of the subject will step out of the mirror. The time it takes for the clone to manifest correlates to age. Subjects in their twenties typically take the least time to produce a clone and the time increases for younger and older subjects. The clone of the subject is identical in nearly all aspects, such as attire, current possessions, mannerisms, memories, and skill set. The copy also shares the wants and needs of the subject. Any events that impact the subject or copies of the subject will not impact each other; testing has shown that there is no continued connection between a subject and their copy beyond its creation.
Most animals (ranging from large rodents to bears in size) can also be copied by the mirror. Once copied, the animals behave as they normally would if two had an encounter. If multiple subjects are standing directly in front of SCP, they will not experience the anomalous effects. Removing a subject from the area of effect of the mirror before a copy of the subject is made will cancel the effect, and if the subject is returned to the mirror it will take additional time to produce a copy. Pain caused by SCP sometimes causes bruising, but like a normal injury it will dissipate over the course of several days.
SCP was discovered after the breach of a non-Foundation containment facility on the coast of Southern Chile. The rampage of what is now SCP ███ was detected on satellites and Foundation personnel were alerted. MTF was deployed and, upon arrival, found multiple copies of a man attempting to restrain SCP ███. After apprehending SCP ███, MTF operatives commandeered the facility. SCP #### was found among other anomalous entities. All copies of the man were captured, and his identity was found to be that of a former Foundation personnel who was terminated for breach of safety protocol. It was unknown at the time which copy was the original man, and investigation into methods of amnestic resistance are ongoing.
Addendum 1: During a major containment breach in 199█, Researcher ████ Cooper left a nearby break room and made 18 copies of herself. The copies then split up throughout the facility to mitigate the damage of the containment breach. Several copies secured firearms and maintained necessary communication across the site, while the rest returned to the break room. Cooper was able to save the lives of staffers within the break room by securing the entrances to the room and treating multiple injured people simultaneously. After the events of the breach, 15 indistinguishable copies of Cooper remained alive. All copies of Cooper claimed to be the original. The 05 Council determined that in order to minimize security risks, additional copies of Cooper should be terminated. Researchers attempted to use a number of quantitative and qualitative methods to determine which copy was not created during the breach, but all results were identical. It was then determined, after much deliberation, to terminate at random all but one copy.
Addendum 2: After additional testing, a method of distinguishing clones has been found. While subjects who have been cloned can make physical contact with SCP-#### as if it were a solid object, copies of a subject will pass through the mirror and ‘cease to exist’.
Note: It has been requested that staffers working with Cooper stop discussing her relation to SCP-#### and questioning her authenticity. Due to her value as a researcher, authentic or not, testing Cooper with the SCP-#### is prohibited. She has been assigned to another site and certain staff members working in the vicinity of SCP-#### have been made aware of its use in the event of future containment breaches. Permission to use SCP-#### for creating copies of cooperative D-class personnel is pending.
