SCP-XXXX in its inactive state
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedure: All units of SCP-XXXX are to be stored within a 1.5 m diameter sphere lined with a 1.5 mm lead coating. Access to SCP-XXXX is limited to a single Class 2 or higher staff member for transport; said personnel must be equipped with a standard issue hazmat suit with a mirrored visor.
SCP-XXXX's containment unit includes a separated chamber mechanism, allowing the retrieval of a single instance of SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX is to be stored at radioactive containment Site-83 until further notice.
Description: In its inactive state SCP-XXXX is a collection of 528 527 chrome-like orbs of an unknown metal. Each instance measures at 15.24 cm in diameter and weighs 1.3 kg. The metal has shown great resistance in efforts to puncture or cut its metal exterior, however an impact force of 356 newtons is capable of breaking the outer layer. Each unit of SCP-XXXX emits radiation of 15.00 mSv.
SCP-XXXX in its active state is similar to before, but releases 6 extending rods from slots undetectable in its inactive state. The rods are jointed similarly to an arachnid of the Pholcidae family and each rod ends in sharp pointed tips resembling gauge 7 suture needles. The pointed tips have a hollow slot that dispenses a thin synthetic fiber hereafter designated SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX is capable of using these rods for the purpose of movement, achieving speeds up to 30 km/h.
For SCP-XXXX to enter its active phase, the following conditions must be met:
- A living organism, hereafter designated the subject, is within sight radius of SCP-XXXX.
- The subject approaches within 3 meters of an inactive SCP-XXXX.
- The subject has what is designated as an 'open wound' by SCP-XXXX. See Testing Log XXXX-█████ for more information.
An inactive SCP-XXXX can become active if an active SCP-XXXX comes within 10 meters, ignoring all previous conditions. It is suspected to be due to a communication signal that is so far undetected.
When activated, SCP-XXXX releases its rods and raises its main body 5 cm off the ground, before immediately detecting for other subjects. This process takes an estimated 2.5 seconds before moving towards any active subjects.
SCP-XXXX-1 is a fiberous material similar to spider silk developed from the major ampullate gland of the Caerostris darwini. Similarly to dragline silk developed by the Caerostris darwini, SCP-XXXX-1 has a combination of incredibly high tensile strength and extensibility, achieving a strength of 350 MJ/m3: over ten times stronger than a similarly sized piece of Kevlar. Due to the strength and thickness, SCP-XXXX-1 cannot be removed without specialty cutting tools. While incendiary tools are capable of removing SCP-XXXX-1, it is not recommended as it undergoes glass transition at low temperatures. See Testing Log XXXX-█████ for more information.
Retrieval: SCP-XXXX was recovered from ██████, █████ inside of an abandoned hospital after a rise of missing children reports came to the attention of Agent ████. Upon investigation, the children came from [REDACTED] Elementary, where a recent 'Courage Test' -related to rumors of the nearby haunted hospital- rose in popularity. The Foundation was contacted and a mobile task force was assembled for retrieval.

Testing Log XXXX-74500
DATE: 05/12/20██
Description: D-2234, equipped with a standard issue hazmat suit, is placed within a room with SCP-XXXX, and separated via a glass pane. SCP-XXXX switches into its active state and moves towards D-2234 and bumps into the glass pane. SCP-XXXX begins to scratch at the glass with its rods and proceeds to do this for 30 minutes until D-2234 is removed. SCP-XXXX switches into its inactive phase after 1 minute.
Date: 05/13/20██
Description: D-2234, equipped with a standard issue hazmat suit, is placed within a room with SCP-XXXX, and separated via glass pane. SCP-XXXX switches into its active state and moves towards D-2234. Obscuring shutters are dropped down, obscuring D-2234. Despite being within active range, SCP-XXXX switches into its inactive phase after 1 minute.
Date: 05/13/20██
Description: D-2234, equipped with a standard issue hazmat suit, is placed within a room with 2 units of SCP-XXXX, designated SCP-XXXX-a and SCP-XXXX-b. SCP-XXXX-a is in visual range of D-2234, and separated via pane of glass, as SCP-XXXX-b is separated behind a metal enclosure. SCP-XXXX-a activates, causing SCP-XXXX-b to activate as well. Upon removal of D-2234, SCP-XXXX-a becomes inactive within 1 minute. SCP-XXXX-b deactivates within 2 minutes of D-2234's removal.
Date: 05/14/20██
Description: D-2234, equipped with a standard issue hazmat suit, is placed within a room with SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX activates and immediately leaps onto the face-mask of D-2234, attempting to pierce through using its rods. Personnel separate and extract D-2234.

Description: D-9482 is placed within a room with SCP-XXXX, and separated by an obscuring lead sheet. D-9482 has several lacerations on their right arm. A table is present on both sides of the sheet, with a chair provided to D-9482. D-9482 places their right arm through a slot in the sheet. SCP-XXXX activates, moving onto the table. Using SCP-XXXX-1, SCP-XXXX sutures D-9482's wounds using running horizontal mattress sutures. SCP-XXXX deactivates within 5 seconds of completion.
Follow-Up: D-9482 has reported to have felt little pain during the procedure. The sutures on D-9482's arm are noted to be done at a professional level. Attempts to sever sutures using conventional cutting tools are ineffective. More testing to be done on SCP-XXXX-1 and potential use.
Addendum XXXX.02: Recovered Video Log During SCP-XXXX Retrieval
ACCESS GRANTED
Video log was found on a camcorder left inside [REDACTED] Hospital. THe video opens to a panning shot of five children (consisting of three boys and two girls) with estimated ages between nine and twelve. The video operator (hereafter designated as OP) sounds to be a Japanese boy of a similar age. As the communication between the children is entirely in Japanese, a translated script is provided for convenience. As the video is shot entirely in night vision mode it is difficult to distinguish between the children. The timestamp on the video reads 22:35.
"Are you certain we should be in here?"
The video pans over to a boy, now confirmed to be one of the reported missing children.
"Don't be such a scaredy cat!"
"Haruo make sure you get this on camera! Don't keep turning it off!"
"I'm trying to save the battery. My dad didn't charge it properly."
"How far do we have to go?"
"We're gonna make it to the third floor, grab something special that only a hospital would have, then leave. Haruo is here for proof."
"Does it have to be the third floor?"
The screen flickers and the time stamp changes to 22:47. OP is behind the other children as they look to be walking down a hallway. The height of the trees outside indicate they are on the second floor or higher.
"Hey Ishiki, do you know why didn't they reopen the hospital?"
"Why would a doctor want to come back to a small town like this?"
"It's already been a year guys."
"Yeah, but Nozomi, Akira, and Mitsuru never came back either."
"I just hope everyone goes back to normal soon."
Screams erupt from the two girls and the camera pans over to them. One of the girls are pointing down the hallway. The camera pans back down the hallway, revealing a metal orb resting against a doorway. One boy steps forward and approaches it.
"W-what is that!?"
"Is it a monster!?"
"Don't be stupid!"
"Everyone calm down!"
"Looks like a toy. Probably something someone left behi-"
The children scream in unison as SCP-XXXX shifts into its active state. SCP-XXXX rapidly moves towards the children and leaps onto the closest boy, using four of its rods to secure a position around the head. The other children turn towards and run past the camera as the OP appears to be frozen in place. SCP-XXXX produces SCP-XXXX-1 from its remaining rods and begins to quickly apply sutures to attached subject's lips, eyelids, nostrils and external acoustic meatus. SCP-XXXX continues, stitching the forearm to the upper arm, the calves to the thigh, and the thighs to the chest, stitching up any holes or spaces it detects. As this occurs another instance of SCP-XXXX appears rounds the corner and begins to move towards OP at a rapid speed, leaping at the camera before it cuts out due to a depleted battery.
