Misc. Background of 3507

The following information is to be delivered to Deep Storage Warehouse #32-T. During the data-gathering phase of SCP-3507's containment, evidence of SCP-3507's existence was collated and distributed to MTF Rho-15 in preparation for containment. Below is an abridged version of the intelligence gathered intended for archival purposes.

The examples below have been translated from Japanese to English.

Field Agent Aki: When was the first time you encountered this young man?

Yuuma Kanzaburo: Oh, that brings me back. The first time I saw him was, I think in 19██ or maybe 19██… Yes, I think it was 19██! He came to this small island right in the midst of the war. I remember him specifically because everyone in town was wearing the clothes that were airdropped by the government and he still wore clothes from the old Heian times. I thought he was an actor.

Field Agent Aki: What was he doing?

Yuuma Kanzaburo: I was curious so I followed him that day. I sneaked behind him and waited to see where he would go. He went to an abandoned summer house that was on the coast. He went to the house and sat down on a tree stump. And what did he do next…let me try to remember…yes, he took out a biwa, it was small, so maybe it was a moso-biwa and he began playing. I left during the song as I heard sirens ring. It's kind of ironic, during the bombing the old house was destroyed.

Field Agent Aki: Did you ever see him again?

Yuuma Kanzaburo: Yes, a few years after the war he came back to the island. I recognized him from his dress, it was the same! He was wearing a garland and I ran up to talk to him, but as he noticed me he jumped into a bush nearby and was gone, just like that. Since then I haven't seen him.

Field Agent Aki: Did anything unusual happen when you were with him?

Yuuma Kanzaburo: No, not really. He seemed sad though, the second time he came. I think the loss of the house affected him deeply, but who wasn't in grief during those times?

Physical Evidence #133

Foreward: The following is an excerpt from a letter of an 1859 Japanese farmer.

"…and when the famine1 hit the region, many died. And of those that survived, the lack of food caused great suffering and turmoil. In our town, the elderly would fall over and bodies would lie in the streets in great piles. And in the great piles, bandits and children alike picked for food or gold.

I was helping my mother count the remaining grain when a man came upon my farm and brought with him three elders who were prostrated before death. He told me "Lo! Upon you, I bear witness that if ye keep them alive, I will bring food."

For I was reluctant that he would give them to me and leave, but I foresaw the duty upon me and took them in.

Days after he would bring blind men, women, and children, victims of the famine and he would bring rice and fish.

Soon after soldiers came and asked me from where I acquired the food. I told them this story and, upon my soul, they waited for the man to come back.

He came and asked from where they obtained the food. The man would not answer them and the soldiers began killing the elders. In one flash, both the man and the soldiers were gone. To this day, I have not seen them again.

But do I blame the soldiers? No, for I was one blessed by kami and this man and I am scared to say what I would have done in those times."
