Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept closed in a 2x2x2.5 meter containment cell with cold-resistant walls in Hall-09 at Site-██. The room is to be guarded by at least one guard at any time. Any personal of level 2 clearance may enter at any time without permission from the lead researcher. At no point should SCP-XXXX be opened if not for testing. After testing SCP-XXXX is to be closed again, if opened and the cell shut. Guards are to be rotated hourly and it is to be checked if SCP-XXXX has opened or been opened upon rotation due to incident-XXXX-A.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a standard cryo box, about 1.6x0.7x0.9 meter, of unknown origin. It was originally discovered in [REDACTED], southern Germany, after reports of an extreme freezing wave hitting a small village nearby. Areas around SCP-XXXX cooled down to around -███°C. Information about the recovery of SCP-XXXX can be found in Addendum-2. When opened SCP-XXXX absorbs any and all heat energy at a rate of around -2°C per minute. This effect lessens over distance and wears off completely after about 5 kilometers. Any matter entering SCP-XXXX will immediately lose all heat energy contained within it. What caused the initial freezing of [REDACTED] is unknown.

Addendum-1:
Incident-XXXX-A: On the 27. of may 200█ suddenly opened. This was not noticed until the entire cell surrounding SCP-XXXX collapsed after losing structural integrity because of the temperature drop. This caused liquid nitrogen, which has concentrated in the cell with other liquified gasses, to poor out of the now-destroyed cell. The guard on duty survived but had his legs amputated later since recovery was impossible. Routine checks have been instated to prevent any further incidents.

Addendum-2:
Recovery log of SCP-XXXX from recorded radio conversations between the recovery team

Time: 23 of may 200█

Procedure: Recovery team entered area via the road with propper equipment and special suits against the temperatures. Names have been changed for secrecy.

Log:

Alpha: Man, it's cold here even with these things on! I hope we will reach the village soon!

Gamma: I hope so, too! I don't think we can withstand this for all too long even with these suits.

Beta: Sadly we can't bring any vehicle with us, since they would just break down almost immediately!

Gamma: I think I can see the village. I could be wrong though since I can not see well in this storm.

Alpha: No, you are correct that is the village! Are those, people?

Gamma: They are frozen! It looks like they were running from something.

Beta: I do not like this! I would love to just get this over with let us look through the village maybe we can find the source.

Note: The team continued into the village where about 6 more residents were discovered frozen. They entered a butchery at the edge of the village which was determined to be the center of temperature loss.

Alpha: It is even colder inside of here! I did not know that was even possible! At least that confirms that the cause of all this should be close!

Gamma: This freezer here seems odd to me!

Beta: What do you mean?

Gamma: Could it be?

Note: Alpha and Beta later report Gamma getting closer to the freezer and holding his hand into it.

Gamma: Ahh, fuck! My fucking hand!

Beta: What happened? Are you okay?

Gamma: My hand I can't feel it anymore! I think that thing froze my entire hand through my suit!

Alpha: We should get you out of here! We will close that thing and take it with us! Since it was only your hand you should still be able to come by yourself and maybe even help us!

Gamma: Ok!

Note: About five hours later the recovery team returned. The right hand of Gamma could not be recovered and had to be amputated.

Results: SCP-XXXX was secured and put under watch, before going into containment 2 days later.

Addendum-3: [REDACTED]
SCP-XXXX is to be moved to Special-Containment-Site-███ immediately! New containment protocols will be presented soon and a reevaluation of classification is currently taking place and [REDACTED]
