Item #: SCP-4701

Object Class: Euclid Uncontained

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4701 is an uncontainable SCP due to its ability to disappear from sight. The SCP is commonly reported by civil authorities in the Republic of Ireland, and so two (2) Mobile Task Force units shall be deployed to the country in search of SCP-4701 and attempt to contain it. Should Mobile Task Force units become in contact with SCP-4701-1 (see description), they should give immediate help to SCP-4701-1 and bring them to the nearest Foundation post. The entire 10 kilometer radius around the initial location of SCP-4701-1 should be searched for SCP-4701 by Mobile Task Force operatives.

Description: SCP-4701 is known as the Banshee or bean-sídhe (from Old Irish meaning "woman of the fairy mound" or "fairy woman"). SCP-4701 mainly comes from Irish mythology and appears to be a female spirit who heralds the death of a family member usually by wailing, shrieking or keening.

There have been many varying descriptions of SCP-4701. SCP-4701 is reported to have long, streaming hair and a grey cloak over a green dress. SCP-4701's eyes are usually reported to be red from continual weeping. The size of SCP-4701 differs between regional accounts. Some accounts of SCP-4701 include that it stands unnaturally tall, while other accounts report that it is short, usually between one (1) foot and four (4) feet, and matches its common description of an old woman.

The keening nature of SCP-4701 has caused those (who will then be referred to as SCP-4701-1) who have been exposed to long periods of sound from SCP-4701, to commit suicide. Although, if SCP-4701-1 receives help quick enough, the effects from SCP-4701 will be reversed, and SCP-4701-1 will be normal and healthy. It is yet to be tested how long it takes for SCP-4701-1 to commit suicide.
