Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3168 Is to be contained within a 46m2 containment chamber with 3.5m thick concrete walling, lined with 17 centimeter thick lead paneling. Any observation facility housing SCP-3168 for testing must have active air filtration systems installed to negate some of SCP-3168 Radioactive properties.
Object is not to be interacted with under any circumstances without proper anti-ionizing Haz-Mat protective gear, and all research, security and D-class personnel that remain within a 15-meter radius of SCP-3168 For more then 15 minutes at a time must be subject to level 2 decontamination and a 24 hour quarantine period, followed by mandatory biometric test and linguistics review.
Description: SCP-3168 Appears to consist of a solid black smooth stone like cylinder of unknown composition measuring about 28.7 centimeters in height, 8.8 centimeters in its diameter, an approximate weight of about 130 ounces, encased in a calcified mixture of cattle blood and pus like discharge. SCP-3168 Has a number of unique properties such as the ability to alter genetic data remotely to change ones make up within the confines of the subjects own species, and seems to instill a strong sense of “glossolalia” in human subjects.
SCP-3168 presence was alerted to the Foundation by the Russian government on July ██, 2008 after villagers from the south eastern border of Georgia started disappearing, and civilians with genetic anomalies started appearing in their absence. Foundation agents were able to locate SCP-3168 Inside the lower intestinal track of a deceased cow on the south side of a farm near ████████, a village on the northeastern border of Georgia and Azerbaijan. Though discovered and secured here, small traces of bentonite deposits inside the calcified discharge indicate that it may have come from as far as Iraq. Attempts to identify the black stone like material have so far remained unsuccessful, and Mass Spectrometer as well as Radiological testing cannot identify the material currently. Attempts to extract samples from the black material has proven impossible at his time. It has been given the designation number G111 until further notice.
SCP-3168 appears to have some form of emission field that behaves similar to a glass prism, where as a glass prism refracts and distorts light into various colors and shapes, SCP-3168 Appears to do the same, except it only seems to effect genetic data, distorting and refracting DNA of nearby organic matter, causing mutations, however, these mutations are not typical mutations caused by ionizing radiation, and in most cases are not destructive, mostly changing DNA within the confines of the organic body plan it effects. For example, where as ionizing radiation can cause adverse defects such as cancerous growths, tumors, development of dysfunctional organs, and extreme cases can cause disfigurement, SCP-3168 seems to effect the superficial and structural, and do not exceed the bounds of the current organic matter it affects.
These mutations do not seem to be initially fatal to organisms affected. And appears to only effect the structure of organic matter and its appearance. However, prolonged unprotected exposure to SCP-3168’s emission field can produce extreme alterations of skin tones, body type and facial features. SCP-3168 appears to also disrupt linguistic memory from human subjects, instilling a strong sense of glossolalia, or gibberish, causing effected subjects to become unable to speak their native language, and speak some forms of unknown language not currently recognized in historical linguistic records. Mental capacity does not appear to be affected by SCP-3168's Emission field, and all subjects registered under interaction sessions with SCP-3168 At different intervals of time, show no signs of mental degradation, psychosis, or loss of neither intelligence nor personality. The only effect of note is those within the vicinity of SCP-3168 report hearing faint voices, speaking different languages not known to be spoken currently by any nation, or ethnic group at any time in historical records.
It is also noted that subjects exposed to SCP-3168 Do not appear to notice their bodies changing and experience no pain or discomfort during the process
Notable mutations examined in testing sessions with SCP-3168 include:
- Changes of melatonin levels in skin,
- Alterations in facial structures and defining features,
- Development of Heterochromia,
- Spontaneous Achromasia,
- Minor craniofacial disfigurement,
- Major craniofacial disfigurement,
- Development of Vitiligo,
- Alteration of biometric data such as fingerprints, vocal cords and retinas.
Approvals for transfer of SCP-3168 to research site B2 RANCH located in ███████, Wyoming for further testing have been submitted and are currently in the review process. Until then, instructions are to maintain SCP-3168's containment, and continue observations and documentation.
