[DATA EXPUNGED BY ORDER OF THE ETHICS COMMITTEE]
Item #: SCP-4282
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4282 is contained inside an aluminium-lined safe inside an aluminium-lined containment cell at Site-423. The safe must be inspected monthly biweekly(See document 4282-B) for beta particle emissions. If beta-particle emissions are discovered, the aluminum inside the safe is to be restored, as this signals total decay of the internal structure.
Description: SCP-4282 is an bright orange highlighter, measuring 7 cm in length, showing about a year's worth of wear. SCP-4282 emits an abnormal amount of beta radiation, without showing any signs of decay on the highlighter itself, however, the beta radiation is manipulated in such a way that it allows humans to hold SCP-4282 for a short time without retaining any cellular damage. Once a time period of 30 minutes has transpired, SCP-4282 will emit a pulse of beta radiation much more potent then its passive release. This pulse will dissolve everything around SCP-4282 within a 10-meter radius before the beta radiation disappears(See document 4282-C).
Addendum 4282-A: Note from Dr. Torid post-analysis:
SCP-4282's beta-particle emission pattern is unlike anything we've ever seen before. Even though the beta-particle emission amount is above the average amount, the pattern in which SCP-4282 emits these particles allows for humans to hold SCP-4282 for an extended amount of time. Further research into how these lengths of time are determined, as well as what the beta-particles do to humans when held, requires further research.
Addendum 4282-B:
Dr. Torid: After the first month of SCP-4282's containment, the safe in which it was stored had completely decayed, and the walls of the containment cell were beginning to show signs of decay as well. We changed the type of safe to aluminium to block some additional radiation and grant additional time to respond to any new containment breaches.
Addendum 4282-C: The following is a transcript of a recording of a test on SCP-4282 utilizing a slew of D-Class personnel to test the properties of SCP-4282. All interactions between the D-Class personnel and SCP-4282 were monitered remotely. All D-Class personnel were told SCP-4282 is completely harmless.
Dr. Torid: Send in the first test subject.
D-28945 enters the containment chamber of SCP-4282.
Dr. Torid: Please begin the discussed procedure.
D-28945 picks up SCP-4282.
D-28945: How long do I have to hold this thing?
Dr. Torid: For one hour.
D-28945: Right. Guess I'll take a seat then.
30 minutes passes
Dr. Torid: You have now reached the halfway point.
D-28945: Hey Doc, is this thing supposed to be getting hot?
Dr. Torid: Yes. Can you tell us how you are feeling?
D-28945: Not…too…
D-28945 collapses, and hazmat staff enter SCP-4282's containment cell to find D-28945 dead. D-28945's body is removed from SCP-4282's containment cell.
Dr. Torid: Interesting.
Addendum 4282-D: The following is a transcript a test regarding SCP-4282's range of effect. Both D-Class have been briefed on the procedure, but have not been told of the potential danger SCP-4282 presents to those close to it.
Dr. Torid: Send in the next two subjects.
D-18746 and D-37949 enter SCP-4282's containment cell.
Dr. Torid: Please begin the procedure.
D-18746 and D-37949: Alright.
D-18746 picks up SCP-4282 and D-37949 moves to the other side of the containment cell.
30 minutes passes
Dr. Torid: How are you feeling, D-37949?
D-37949: A bit sick. Is time up?
Dr. Torid: Yes. Security please escort D-37949 back to his cell.
D-37949 is escorted back to his cell. A hazmat team enters SCP-4282's containment cell and places SCP-4282 in an aluminium-lined safe, then disposes of D-18746's corpse.
Dr. Torid: We got what we needed.
