Item #: SCP-XXXX
Scientific Name: Radicatus ferrum
(Lit.) "Iron Roots"
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX-1 is to be contained at Site-103's greenhouse in a special room that contains a large square plot of grass with a trench dug around the sides with a grate at the bottom that leads into an incineration chamber, the seeds produced by SCP-XXXX-1 are to be either collected or incinerated. If collection procedures are in effect, 4 personnel are to go in and collect the seeds that did not fall into the trench, personnel are to wear protective equipment and are NOT allowed to remove any part of the suit before and after entering the decontamination chamber. If such contact with a seed is made it is to be removed via pressure washing in the early stages in germination or surgery if the germinating seeds have begun to root itself. If a seed has begun to germinate in a vital area such as the face neck or has rooted in a vital system such as the heart or lungs, the afflicted will be terminated and the corpse is to be cremated.
Instances of Animals that have SCP-XXXX-2 are to be brought in and the instance of SCP-XXXX-2 are to be surgically removed and the animal will released back into the wild or the animal will be killed and incinerated if removal attempts fail. Animals with SCP-XXXX-2 that are kept will be stored in a series of safe class containment chambers at Site-103.
Description: SCP-XXXX refers to an anomalous species of tall metal like structures that resemble modern and vintage street lights of different types based on local regions and cultures. These structures consume sunlight through their glass panes via Photosynthesis to which they derive nutrients and and light to convert to lamp light. It is to be noted that SCP-XXXX-1 will "Bend" it's body in order to receive sunlight easier.
SCP-XXXX-1 will enrich the ground with nutrients, increasing plant growth near it as to tempt animals near. When Animals get near it, it will immediately disseminate seed into the air in which it will land on the animal. When the seed germinates, it will grow metallic roots and clamp to the skeleton if available. The lamp like structure is known as SCP-XXXX-2. It will grow into a small lamp or lantern with sizes varying based on the animal's size. Animals affected with SCP-XXXX-2 will exhibit migratory behaviors, often leaving its pack, or if the animal is an alpha, it will convince the group to follow it, even to the point of fighting their own members even if the species does not engage in agonistic behavior.
When the afflicted animal reaches old age or is dying, SCP-XXXX-2 will "burst" and shatter the glass that holds its light and seeds will spread, around 50 seeds will be released and only three to five germinate into grown members of SCP-XXXX-1, in which the cycle begins again. Animals who have been affected will try to migrate to one of the nearest eleven found cave structures, though it is unknown how many there are of these structures. The caves are known as SCP-XXXX-3 and have been seen to have a large colony of SCP-XXXX-1 around it.
When an animal reaches these caves, it will enter and will simply disappear and recent experiments have shown no conclusiveness to the whereabouts of animals who enter.
Topography surveys have been inconclusive to any sort of opening or portal and D-class who have been instructed to enter while afflicted with SCP-XXXX-2 have not found any openings in the caves. Cameras that have been attached to these animals will flash white several times before staying a bright white, the animal is no longer visible at this point. D-Class who follow these animals in report a heavy sense of dread, and report seeing a white flash of light in which the animal is nowhere to be seen. It is theorized that these animals are transported to another plane of existence, or simply somewhere else on Earth, or the universe. This area will be known as SCP-XXXX-A
Addendum-XXXX-2-1: Below is a table describing the anomalous behaviors exhibited by animals infected by SCP-XXXX-2.
| Animal used | Behavioral changes | Aftermath |
|---|---|---|
| Caspian Red Deer. (M) | The Subject now known as SCP-2-01 began to paced around the western wall of the containment chamber. after 5 hours it began to strike at the wall with it's antlers showing signs of severe distress, even when food and water were readily available, it did not eat. |
