Report: SCP-4678
Classification: KETER
Description
SCP-4678 refers to the manifestation of a unit of British SAS, dressed and equipped with Second World War era kit. The unit size varies, from a fireteam level of four members to a company level of 100 depending on the circumstances of manifestation. All anomalies, designated SCP-4678-1, have faces hidden by balaclavas. The eyes of anomalies however have been witnessed to shine with a dark red hue when in combat and with a blue hue when unprovoked.
SCP-4678 incidents consistently manifest when one or more soldiers of the British armed forces are in dire circumstances, usually when at risk of death or capture. The appropriate unit size for the operation will appear always from out of view of both enemy and friendly forces and advance on the aggressors with haste, impervious to any small arms fire laid upon them. If heavier weapons such as light artillery or air strikes are used against SCP-4678-1 instances, the affected anomaly will vanish from view and re-appear seconds later, now impervious to that form of assault and regularly more aggressive.
Upon reaching within 200 meters of the provoking force SCP-4678 instances will raise weapons of Second World War origin and fire. Weapons used by SCP-4678 will not however fire traditional bullets, but instead bright white and extremely hot projectiles that disintegrate upon impact. These projectiles defy any body armour, piercing even reinforced kevlar plating. Accuracy of SCP-4678-1 instances does not vary, with pinpoint accuracy killing with each shot. Instances will advance whilst firing, and when within 10 meters of the enemy will cease firing and use bayonets and hatchets, or sometimes fists to kill without mercy. SCP-4678 has not been shown to accept surrender.
When SCP-4678 has effectively wiped out or forced the threat to retreat, SCP-4678-1 anomalies will fade from sight, regularly leaving behind one officer, identified as SCP-4678-2. SCP-4678-2 will, upon ensuring his men have disappeared, plant a small, tattered Union Jack flag in the battlefield. SCP-4678-2 will then step back, salute the flag and then the rescued British soldiers before taking off his cap and fading from view.
Special Containment Procedures:
Due to the unpredictable nature of SCP-4678 containment is impossible. Instead, responding Foundation personnel are required to hunt all witnesses and administer class A amnestics ASAP. Officers of witness units are to be questioned about the behaviour of SCP-4678, and wiped of all recollection of SCP-4678.
Evidence of SCP-4678 such as flags or shell casings are to be collected and studied at Site *REDACTED*
In accordance with Addendum 1 and 2, Foundation personnel responding to SCP-4678 are to work closely with MI6 and associated Government branches in the UK to identify the exact cause of SCP-4678 and possible ways to work more effectively with SCP-4678.
Incident 4678-A:
During Operation Market Garden in September 1944, airborne Captain Frank Trenton of the 3rd Parachute Brigade, 1st Airborne Division reported being surrounded by German forces at *REDACTED* bridge, Arnhem-Eindhoven. 2nd Company had taken major losses and were at 40% combat effectiveness, and considering surrender if another attack was launched. However, upon the fourth German assault by a motorised infantry company, Captain Trenton recalled a company of "bright eyed devils" emerge from surrounding houses and fields, seemingly with no point of origin. The apparitions quickly formed a pincer movement and decimated the German attackers, firing what Trenton said were, "Godlike bolts of death." Several Wehrmacht soldiers attempted surrender and were brutally shot, stabbed and beaten to death before the entire attack crumbled and retreated.
Trenton and his men were then shocked to witness the saviours of their lives to fade from view, eyes now dark blue rather than red, leaving not even footprints. Upon noticing the remaining officer, SCP-4678-2 plant the tattered flag and salute it, Trenton attempted to approach the officer and thank him, but the anomaly faded "right before my godforsaken eyes."
Despite the brutal response from SCP-4678, Trenton and his company were simply too worn down to keep fighting and fell back the next morning, to heavy ridicule from other soldiers and officers over their "bloody ghost story."
Incident 4678-B:
The following is an extract from an official transcript from a SAS team leader after Operation Nimrod in 1980.
"The two SAS teams on-scene, Red Team and Blue Team, were ordered to begin their simultaneous assaults, under the codename Operation Nimrod, at 19:23. One group of four men from Red Team abseiled from the roof down the rear of the building, while another four-man team lowered a stun grenade through the skylight. The detonation of the stun grenade was supposed to coincide with the abseiling teams detonating explosives to gain entry to the building through the second-floor windows. Their descent had not gone according to plan and the staff sergeant leading the abseilers became entangled in his rope. While trying to assist him, one of the other soldiers had accidentally smashed a window with his foot. The noise of the breaking window alerted Oan, who was on the first floor communicating with the police negotiators, and he went to investigate. The soldiers were unable to use explosives for fear of injuring their stranded staff sergeant, but managed to smash their way into the embassy.
Redacted by the Government after the operation was the appearance of SCP-4678 during the assault. In fact the Staff sergeant left behind by Red team was cut down minutes later (noted later in the report) and followed his team in. Burned by flaming curtains lit during the assault, the soldier was slightly combat ineffective. Wiped from all official records was the presence of a further four terrorists in the siege, who at this moment entered the room containing the lone Staff sergeant. Wounded, the man dived behind a desk and was subsequently pinned down. At this moment four combatants from SCP-4678 assaulted the terrorists, appearing from behind desks and furniture. two terrorists were shot dead whilst the other one was clubbed four times over the head with the butt of a rifle and the other stabbed seven times with a bayonet. Upon the fading of the regular soldiers, SCP-4678-2 saluted a small flag it placed in a coffee cup. It then turned and saluted the Staff Sergeant and faded.
ADDENDUM 1
-INTERVIEW START
-Interviewee is an unnamed MI6 operative from the British Government (A)
-Interviewer is Director *REDACTED* of Site *REDACTED* (B)
B-"You have stated upon arrival you have classified information that may be of assistance?"
A-"Yeah. This comes straight from t' Prime Minister mind, so don't be takin' none of it too lightly yeah?"
B-"Understandable. Go on."
A-"Right. Int' Second World War, 1943, the lads in intelligence got wind of a Nazi research station down int' Bavarian mountains, lookin' into artefacts found by't SS in Africa. Word was they were onto something. Not great news all things considered.
Order came straight from the top. Lads cobbled together a crack SAS team, 'bout two 'undred blokes. These lads were clandestine, never on any official troop records, snatched from regular army and special ops. Mission objective was kill or capture 'ead researchers and grab any artefacts able to be carried. Destroy the rest.
The 8 platoons were dropped into t' mountains by air, and made their ways in, separating into smaller, quieter groups. Second platoon got found by Waffen SS fuckers in the lead research station an' it kicked off. The Germans overran the poor lads an' they all fell into a massive group tryin' t' get out. Major Edward Quentin, the one in charge of the entire group realised they weren't goin' home, so he burnt what papers they'd nabbed and smashed the one artefact they managed t' take. Eventually all of the Brits were wiped out, except for one kid who played dead. The Nazis left t' bodies ont' mountain and left. Lad had to stumble back a hundred or so miles over weeks t' the nearest allied forces, after they'd already been declared dead by't Government. 'E told 'is story to the Director of M16. Mission declared failed, and all records wiped."
-The sound of a pen on paper is heard-
B-"What happened to the survivor?"
A-"Died. Lad was in monitoring after his trek back, and one night disappeared without a trace in bed."
B-"He joined the others?"
A-"Couldn't tell you."
-More noting-
B-"Is that all?"
A-"Not yet. Two years later, after Germany packed it in, we sent a team to't research station to see what got left be'ind. Turns out it was barely standing."
B-"How so?"
A-"Entire place in ruin. Frozen bodies of Germans across the place, not a single attacker killed it seemed. Initial searches found a tape recorder, hurried report from t' head researcher. I'll get it t' you."
B-"Appreciated. Was the cause of the attack confirmed?"
A-"Only evidence was a Union Jack jammed through t' SS Kommandants' spine, pinnin' him t' the snow."
B-"Thank you agent. That will be all."
-Chairs are heard scraping and a door opens and closes-
A-"I am formally requesting a direct line to MI6 to be opened, in the case of more incidents. This new information means that MI6 has been researching this for years. I would like access to that intel. Director out."
-END OF INTERVIEW
