SCP-XXXX - The Glowstick Rings
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a storage locker in Sector 3 of Site-19. The object is only accessible to those with Security Clearance to interact with objects from this set of lockers, which is to be guarded at all times by two guards. Anyone attempting to access these lockers without permission is a ground for termination. If SCP-XXXX touches the floor at any point, Sector 3 is set to be locked down for 2 hours. If anomalous events begin occuring in another Sector, the whole facility is to be locked down until the event has run it's course.
Description:
SCP-XXXX is a set of 6 bent glowsticks, of which 5 intertwine. The SCP was created when 6 glowsticks, bent into a ring shape, were thrown into SCP-916 by a rogue guard. The guard activated SCP-916 on the setting 'Very Fine', creating SCP-XXXX.
SCP-XXXX's rings are perfectly circular, being roughly 7cm in diameter. Their colouring appears to be random, with 2 yellow rings, 1 orange ring, 1 clear ring, and 2 scarlet rings. Any attempt to unlink the 5 intertwining rings has failed. The sixth ring does not share this property, and can be linked to the other 5 and unlinked at any time.
The 5 intertwining rings share an anomalous property, and are referred to as SCP-XXXX-A. This SCP can predict events and occurrences, but only when a 'Subject' has been selected. A throw indicates a prediction, and when caught, whoever threw them will always catch a random number, from 0-5, in a pincer grab. This number is a prediction, and what it means is dependent on the subject. 'Subject' refers to what object it focuses on when predicting. When SCP-XXXX-A is thrown into the air for the first time, whatever the thrower thinks should be the 'Subject' will be focused on by SCP-XXXX. Testing has proven that this SCP can access the thoughts of anyone in a 15m radius. The thrower will catch a 5 if the 'Subject' has been successfully selected, and a 1 if it hasn't. The second throw is a prediction, and the thrower will catch a number from 0-5, in a pincer grab. This number is the prediction. If the rings predict a 0, something in relation to the 'Subject' will go wrong.
The sixth ring, referred to as SCP-XXXX-B, also known as 'The Broken Ring', is a scarlet coloured ring that came out of SCP-916 separated from the other five. It has no anomalous properties when disconnected from SCP-XXXX-A. When connected to SCP-XXXX-A, they become SCP-XXXX-C.
SCP-XXXX-C is the result of linking SCP-XXXX-A to SCP-XXXX-B. SCP-XXXX-C shares the same properties as SCP-XXXX-A. However, when a 0 is predicted, an anomalous event seemingly created by the ring will occur. These events usually result in the death of the thrower and the researcher documenting the test, unless they are further than 50m away. Other deaths may occur, dependant on the event. As of ██-██-████, testing with SCP-XXXX-C is prohibited, due to Incident-01.
Experiment A - ██-██-████, 5PM
SCP:
SCP-XXXX-A
Subject:
5 doors, set to open in a random order upon activation.
Procedure:
D-9284 is to throw the rings 5 times whilst the 'Subject' the SCP is focusing on is the doors. Then the doors will activate and we see if the rings are correct.
Results:
5, 2, 3, 1, 4
The order of the doors opening was 5, 2, 3, 1, 4.
Analysis:
The SCP's prediction was correct. Test over.
Experiment B - ██-██-████, 4PM
SCP:
SCP-XXXX-A
Subject:
5 D-Class, instructed to fire at targets on command
Procedure:
D-8989 is to throw the rings 5 times whilst the 'Subject' the SCP is focusing on is the D-Class. The word 'Fire' will be shouted. The targets will send a signal when the bullet makes contact, letting us order the different bullet's impacts.
Results:
4, 2, 5, 3, 0
The shots fired hit the targets in the order 4, 2, 5, and 3. The final shot missed and hit the wall, causing a water leak.
Analysis:
The SCP's prediction was correct, even to the point of predicting a miss.
Note:
Said water leak caused that room to nearly flood, as the Caretaker was late. 0's may have negative consequences.
Incident-01 - ██-██-████, 2PM
SCP:
SCP-XXXX-C
Subject:
6 D-Class, instructed to scream on command
Procedure:
D-8989 is to throw the rings 6 times whilst the 'Subject' the SCP is focusing on is the D-Class. The word 'go' will be shouted. The D-Class will scream and our detectors will compare the voices to samples and give us a result.
Results:
0
SCP-173 breached containment in Sector 2. No-one saw the SCP until it reached the research facility. Lead Researcher ████████ and Researcher June deceased.
Experiment Over. SCP-XXXX-C testing now prohibited.
SCP:
SCP-XXXX-A
Subject:
5 sealed containers of foundation material, each of which is locked with a rusted padlock.
Procedure:
D-8241 is to throw the rings once to select a box to open. The boxes contain potentially dangerous material. 'This is to test if the rings are on our side.' - Researcher Augustus.
Result:
0, 0, 0
One of the locks broke open. The documents inside showed pictures of SCP-096. Both the D-Class and Researcher Augustus have since been killed by 096. Rings now require security clearance to be accessed, and additional safety has been implemented.
Interview Transcript between Security Officer Clyde and Security General ██████
Security General ██████: Tell me, Clyde, why a breach occurred today.
Security Officer Clyde: SCP-XXXX-A and SCP-XXXX-B. They were dropped, sir.
Security General ██████: Dropped? As in, they were dropped after being in the air? As in, a prediction occurred in which a '0' was the result? For all 6 rings?
Security Officer Clyde: Yes, sir. It is believed that SCP-XXXX-A and SCP-XXXX-B were focused on their containment. Thus, a 0 caused a breach.
Security General ██████: Goddamn it Clyde. We lost 7 men. 7 lives, that your mistake cost us. You're fired. Officer ████, get the amnesiac.
Security Officer Clyde: No you don't.
rustling
Security General ██████: Why do you have the rings?
Security Officer Clyde: I want to stay. Or else I drop them.
BANG
Security General ██████: You shot him, Officer ████. Would that not drop the rings?
A breach alarm sounds, followed by the destruction of the recorder.
Security procedures updated so that if the SCP is dropped, Sector 3 will be fully locked down.
