SCP-####: The Pathogen
Object Class: Euclid

During the 1980's economic crash of Ethiopia, a strange pathogen was spreading amongst the people of the country. This pathogen seems to be fungal in origin, however that is were the comparisons between this pathogen and every other known fungal disease ends. From what we do know, this disease originated from an intricate copper box found in the tomb of Emperor Yekuno Amlak of Ethiopia - who began the Solomonic Dynasty in Ethiopia which would last for 700 years. Local legends tell that this Emperor created a man-made curse and would unleash it if his dynasty were to ever be removed from power, we believe this mystery pathogen is that curse. Yet how the Emperor managed to create this pathogen or how it was contained for more than 700 years remain unknown.
The pathogen - itself the SCP - seems to have been engineered to cause as much pain as possible to the infected. The spores enter the body, and presumably travel into the lungs and then into the blood stream, where it then goes to the brain, taking over sections of the brain responsible for motor functions. After a few hours of the person getting infected, they start to show similar symptoms to arthritis and begin to lose control over their fingers, hands, and in some cases feet and legs. After a day of being infected, the person loses all motor control over their arms and legs, as the pathogen either eats away at or controls the brain further. A few hours after this, the pathogen uses the brain to move the now helpless person to higher ground - presumably to more effectively spread its spores - and begins to drag the person unwillingly to any high ground available. Once the pathogen reaches high ground - with the infected having massive panic attacks due to the present circumstances - it begins to devour the brain and other internal and external organs, including patches of skin. Once the body has enough sufficient holes in it, the pathogen grows branches out of these holes, and launches more spores into their air from these branches.
The SCP Foundation personnel who were operating out of Addis Ababa managed to track down the origin of where the spores came from and - after failed attempts to manually close the box - resorted to building an airtight container around the box, preventing any more spores from being released. With the source of the pathogen contained, it seems as if the pathogen itself lost its symptoms - all infected patients all had varying fungal diseases instead of this pathogen. It is forbidden to open or break into this container without proper equipment, but other than it's abnormal symptoms it is deemed harmless.
