Item #: SCP-3854
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-3854 has been placed in a secure steel vault with a 10cm-thick door of titanium, which is to be surrounded by another layer of concrete and another titanium door (thus sealing SCP-3854 inside two layers of security). Monitoring of SCP-3854 is redundant and has therefore not been installed.
Description: SCP-3854's shape is almost entirely unknown due to its anomalous properties. D-class personnel exposed to SCP-3854 (who are hereafter referred to as SCP-3854-1) are unable to recall any events that transpired since they entered the chamber, and furthermore will deny that any such events have ever happened. Although the strength of the denial varies on a per-specimen basis, no Foundation employees have heretofore been able to access the memories of SCP-3854-1 instances; it is therefore suspected that the entity in some fashion impairs an observer's ability to create long-term memories of it.
It is hypothesized that SCP-3854 is a creature of some kind, in part because of the vault sustaining damage over time, and partially because testing of D-class staff has yielded results indicating a sentient occupant; such people have sustained ████, ████, █████, and ████ during the course of the testing. When confronted about the cause of these injuries, they give a typically vague response, though all polygraphs have indicated truthfulness to the best of their knowledge. Consistent with expectations, investigations into the claims have never supported SCP-3854-1 accounts. (These findings are typically sufficient to convince an SCP-3854-1 instance that the anomalous effects of SCP-3854 are behind their memory loss.)
The injuries sustained by SCP-3854-1 instances appear non-anomalous and can be treated by conventional methods.
Addendum 3854-A: Further testing has indicated that SCP-3854 appears to inflict violence on recording devices; all tests with methods of recording have resulted in the recording equipment being mangled beyond repair. Ways of destruction have included ████ and [DATA EXPUNGED], neither of which is practically possible to undo with the Foundation's capabilities. A list of experiments performed with SCP-3854 follows.
Test 3854-A - 23/5/██
Method of Recording: █████-brand EOS 80D DSLR camera with 18-135mm IS USM lens
Subject: [REDACTED], D-7853
Result: D-7853 exited the first chamber a few minutes after the experiment began and the second shortly thereafter, displaying a fearful expression. He did not have the camera. When prompted by Dr. ██████ as to the cause of his consternation, D-7853's face shifted and he claimed that he didn't know what Dr. ██████ was talking about. D-7853 had moderate burns along the left and right arms and his left humerus was broken. When asked about the cause of these injuries, D-7853 replied with the fallacious statement "I have a tough job" and mentioned his career in logging, which he no longer has as a result of his conviction and subsequent transfer into the Foundation. Due to the localization of the injuries, it is inferred that SCP-3854 targeted the camera and forced D-7853 to drop it, at which point D-7853 exited the quarters.
Test 3854-B - 16/2/██
Item: SCP-####
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: Pending destruction, SCP-#### is to be stored in a secure locked vault at Site ██. Cameras are to be installed in the vault and a 24/7 watch must be kept on SCP-####. When in use, employees operating SCP-#### are not to talk; only one person may be allowed into the room containing SCP-#### at a time, so as to eliminate nonverbal communication.
Description: SCP-#### is an ██-brand ███████ laptop, a model from 20██. In most ways, it can be operated identically to a non-anomalous model of its type, with the sole exception that it does not appear to lose or run out of battery. The only user account on the computer is named " " (a single space), and no information pertaining to a previous owner or owners has been found on it.
The only icon on SCP-####'s desktop is a file folder named "exposé", located at the top left. Attempts to open the folder have proven fruitless; although no preventative system or function appears to be in place for it, no action is taken by the computer to display the files located inside the directory. Direct analysis of SCP-####'s physical drive and other components is impossible for reasons to be discussed, but the execution of preinstalled diagnostics have returned results indicating that "exposé" does not exist; that is, although the folder can be highlighted as any regular icon can be, it cannot be found by any search of the computer's files.
SCP-#### has proven to be both indestructible and impenetrable by all methods heretofore attempted by the Foundation, including [DATA EXPUNGED]. Although its trackpad, keyboard, power switch, and ports can be manipulated conventionally, it is completely resilient to attempts to disassemble it in any way; likewise, viruses introduced into the system display no effects and are almost instantly deleted. Files that pose no threat to the operation of SCP-#### are unaffected. The application that performs this screening and selective deletion is not displayed on diagnostics, but is nevertheless unprecedentedly accurate.
At random intervals, SCP-####'s monitor will open to an angle of 90° relative to its keyboard and turn on. SCP-#### becomes anomalously locked in position whenever it enters this phase—all attempts to move it, close it, or otherwise interact fail. These forces include gravity but not the Earth's rotational force, since SCP-#### does not fall to the floor in this state when supports such as tables are moved out from under it but it continues to be fixed in place relative to the entities around it.
SCP-#### will then autonomously open the ████████ word processor and begin writing a report. The nature of this report varies heavily, but the topic always pertains to the Foundation and its activities, and it always contains information that is sensitive in nature and classified. The method by which SCP-#### acquires this information is as yet unknown. The reports typically range from 10-20 pages in length, with the longest recorded being 37 pages and the shortest 4 pages. The reports are formatted rigorously in line with the standards of the █████████████ newspaper, located in ███████, WA. The typing speed is constant at 156 words per minute. No editing has been observed to occur.
Once a report has been finished, it will be saved to the "exposé" folder. Concordant exactly with the time it has been saved, a verbatim version of the report can be found in the inboxes of a wildly variant number of email inboxes, all of which belong to editors of news publications. Additionally, an equally variant number of posts appear at the same moment on various social media platforms such as [DATA EXPUNGED]. Investigations into the accounts on which these posts appear have collectively concluded that the appearance has no correlation with conscious efforts on the part of the account owners to undermine the Foundation. The accounts are random and the report is posted by entirely anomalous means.
For clear reasons, these leaks pose a clear and present danger to both the Foundation itself and its efforts. As such, the unusual policy of destruction has been adopted for the preservation of the secrecy of the Foundation's activities.
Item: SCP-####
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedure: SCP-#### is to be detained in Locker Bay 584 at Site 65. As SCP-#### does not require sustenance or maintenance of any kind it is not to be taken out except by site researchers of at least class 7. Intentional exposure of humans to SCP-#### is potentially extremely dangerous; as such all exposure testing has been indefinitely suspended.
Additionally, SCP-#### is to be contained in a 7cm x 10cm x 3cm box with a color sensor, the purpose being to determine the side of the paper facing up, and a mechanical bottom that rotates it in the event of the written-on side of the paper facing the top of the box. As extremely dangerous infohazardous information is contained on one side, it is imperative that no human perceives the side of the paper.
Description: SCP-#### is a small, badly burned fragment of lined, college-ruled notebook paper measuring approximately 5.63cm by 8.74cm. Data from experiments suggests the existence of some form of words or other content on one side of the paper. The other side is free of apparent hazardous effects.
When an individual (designated SCP-####-1) views the written-on side of SCP-####, they will undergo a drastic change in personality and behavior, though no physical transformations appear to take place. The individual also acquires potent reality-bending abilities, sometimes reaching internal readings as high as 900 Humes, although the manifestation of said powers is wildly variant from subject to subject.
In many cases, SCP-####-1 also appears to lose moral and ethical concerns. Maiming, torture, murder, and other destruction is common in instances of SCP-####-1, seemingly without emotional investment on their parts. SCP-####-1 instances' reality-bending abilities make them particularly destructive and difficult to stop.
After a period of time lasting anywhere from 12 minutes to 13.5 hours, SCP-####-1 will abruptly collapse and enter a comatose state. The subject is never stable but always medically salvageable and can be revived. Interviews with psychologists and analysis by researchers have not revealed reality-bending abilities or anomalous Hume levels in post-experience SCP-####-1 instances, nor have they detected any evidence of the personality shown during the reality-bending; the change undergone when an individual views SCP-#### appears only temporary.
Addendum ####-1: SCP-#### was discovered at the bedside of █████ ███████ in [REDACTED], Oregon, on a nightstand during a raid to recover SCP-███. Operational team MTF-Mu member 4 turned the paper over, seeing the infohazardous information. What follows is a log of what transpired shortly before MTF-Mu's feeds cut out.
Mu-4: He blinks, eyes losing focus, and puts the paper back on the table. His posture shifts.
Mu-2: He becomes aware of Mu-4's change in demeanor. Hey. You OK?
Mu-4: He turns around. His expression has changed drastically. Whoa.
Mu-2: What are you talking about?
Mu-4: He walks up to Mu-2, who leans away from him, and closely examines him, his face in particular. Wow. I've never had one of these before.
Mu-2: …the hell? You—what?
Mu-1: She walks into the room. What's going on?
Mu-4: He looks over at her. She flinches.
Mu-1: She looks over at Mu-2. What's happened to him? Her fingers move down toward her gun.
Mu-4: Cool. So now, I can, like…Flames appear from his fingertips. The others stiffen and step back, reaching for their weapons.
Mu-2: He gasps. How - just - stay calm, son. Stay calm.
Mu-1: Stop.
Mu-4: This seems so real…A car (a 1968 Ford Pontyak) crashes through the wall, causing both Mu-1 and Mu-2 to fall to the ground, instinctively sheltering their heads.
Mu-1: We have a level-5 situation! I repeat, a level-5 situation!
Mu-2: runs out of the room
Mu-4: levitates off the ground as debris swirls, suspended, counterclockwise, around him
After this, all that can be seen is Mu-2's body-cam rapidly covering the length of the house. The last few frames show what appears to be a massive explosion.
Addendum ####-2: After the events of Log ####-1, Dr. ████████ went through the footage and hypothesized SCP-####'s infohazardous property. Subsequently, another team was sent to recover SCP-#### and they were successful. However, member 5 of this team was accidentally subjected to SCP-####'s effects as the team approached Site-██, causing a containment breach. A partial log of the events follows.
