Item #: SCP-5293
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5293 is to be is kept in a secure locker at Containment Site-43 and may not be used except during controlled testing performed under the jurisdiction of a Level 3 researcher. Under no circumstances is SCP-5293 to be watched within sight of any significant Foundation or civilian structures.
Description: SCP-5293 is a standard 1982 VHS-C video tape with no visible production date or producer, with the words "Training Video" written along its side.1
When inserted into a video home system(also known as a VHS for short) created in or after the year 1982 and played, a video similar to that of an industrial training tape will begin to play for an inconsistent timeframe which varies with each viewing. The topic that SCP-5293 covers also varies, with the use of low-quality animation style and bold white text to explain instructions the only consistency throughout all videos. However, the methods suggested by SCP-5293 consist of highly dangerous, irrational, and otherwise unethical procedures that would naturally have no beneficial effect on the topic being covered.
After the completion of the video, the topic covered by SCP-5293 will immediately take place, often in close vicinity of the viewer. If the viewer successfully completes the instructions provided by SCP-5293, one of two outcomes will take place:
- Any threats or disasters generated by SCP-5293 will cease.
- The viewer will escape or survive until any threat or disaster generated by SCP-5293 ceases.
However, if the viewer fails to successfully execute the instructions covered by SCP-5293, they will be killed by SCP-5293, whether directly or indirectly.
If anyone besides the viewer attempts the instructions provided by SCP-5293 without having directly viewing the corresponding video of SCP-52932, they will not be able to replicate any anomalous outcomes that SCP-5293 may describe, and instead be terminated by means natural with the rules of this reality.

Test 5293-1
Subject: D-14591
Testing Location: █████████ Forest
Topic: "How to Survive A Bear Attack"
Length of Video: 2 minutes and 7 seconds
Summary of Instructions: SCP-5293 instructions consisted of teaching D-14591 the correct puncuation of several words, each in a different dialect, followed by the completion of ten(10) jumping jacks and a formal bow.
Result: Immediately after D-14591 completed the video, an instance of Ursus arctos3 approached D-14591 from behind. D-14591 expressed severe signs of distress and successfully completed the instructions provided by SCP-5293. Immediately after completing all given instructions, the instance of Ursus arctos stood on its hind legs and clapped its front paws together four times. After returning to all four legs, the instance then proceeded to walk away from the testing site.
Note: At the end of this test, D-14591 was instructed to follow and attempt SCP-5293's instructions again. Long story short, it didn't work. Seems like each set of instructions is a one time use… - Lead Researcher Kiepling
Test 5293-2
Subject: D-14599
Testing Location: Site-43 testing chamber
Topic: "How to Handle a Firearm"
Length of Video: 1 minute and 9 seconds
Summary of Instructions: SCP-5293 explained D-14599 the difference between "Silly" and "Serious" firearms, and requested any "Silly" guns to be operated backwards, with the barrel facing the user.
Results: At the conclusion of the video, both security officers on duty within the testing chamber suddenly locked the chamber, sealing it from the outside. One of the officers made an attempt to restrain D-14599, who resisted and managed to grab their firearm. They made an attempt to shoot their attacker but instead fell backward, a bullet wound visible in the center of their forehead. The moment D-14599 was considered deceased, both security officers appeared to freeze and fall over, also appearing to be deceased.
