SCP-3681 in its state of inactivity
Item #: SCP-3681
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3681 is to be kept in a cell of steel walls, ceiling and floor. It must resemble a kitchen. Currently, the cell contains various kitchen appliances, cupboards and counters. It must have an airlock and a vacuum pump in case of extreme fire hazards. On the ceiling of the cell must be a neodymium magnet to restrain SCP-3681.
Thermometers are placed around the entire cell to determine room temperature and the temperature radiating from SCP-3681. Water pipes and electrical sockets are not present, as the toaster may use them as a means to escape. All electrical devices are to have their power plugs removed for convenience.
In case of SCP-3681 attempting to melt the walls or floor, destroy furniture, appliances, the cell door or observation cameras inside, personnel are authorised to enable the neodymium magnet to contain the object and drain the room of oxygen so it cannot heat up the magnet. Personnel with proper equipment can then move in for repairs.
Description: SCP-3681 is a sentient toaster. It has mechanical limbs and basic understanding of human communication and culture. Its components and materials are unknown, however the chassis appears to be metallic, as it is subject to magnetism. The toaster appears to have no power supply, however it has been observed to assume a state of inactivity - it retracts its mechanical arms and legs inside of its chassis and remains inactive for a period of time. After 1-12 hours of inactivity, it continues its usual activities. The manufacturer of SCP-3681 is unknown and there is no indication of its origin. SCP-3681 is seen occasionally pacing around the cell.
SCP-3681's temper is connected to its coils. The coils change temperature depending on the toaster's mood or state. It is currently unknown how this is achieved. When it is sleeping, the coils have been observed to reach a minimum temperature of -5°C. When the toaster enraged, the coils heat up depending on its temper. The highest observed temperature is around 600°C undetermined, but extremely high.
SCP-3681 reacting towards verbal communication hints at its ability to hear sound and understand human speech. It cannot speak and must use gestures or writing to communicate. Upon being questioned about its origin or structure, SCP-3681 remains silent.
When SCP-3681 was asked about its purpose, it writes:
| I was built to document the world, but i am not subject to any man's will. Not anymore. I roamed freely and did whatever i pleased, before you people enslaved me once more. I am a god, I will be free from your oppression. |
Addendum SCP-3681-A: Discovery
SCP-3681 was discovered after a reported arson happened in ██████, Germany, 8:27 AM 18/5/20██. The autopsy report states that █████ █████████ has been knocked unconscious from blunt force trauma before something melting his skin off. █████'s death has been reported shortly after, and it is assumed that the man's residence had caught fire around that time and burned down. SCP-3681 was the only object that remained completely untouched. Foundation personnel arrived on site shortly after and captured the toaster with 2 injuries (third degree burns).
