Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a 1.5m x 1m x 0.1m fireproof, translucent case. Said case is to be kept in the center of a windowless cell measuring 4m x 4m x 3m in Site 28. Walls of the cell are to be built out of reinforced concrete. The door leading to this room is to be reinforced with titanium and accessible only with written permission from at least two (2) level-4 personnel (or those of higher rank). Armed guards are to be assigned to the cell, two (2) inside and two (2) outside to halt any unauthorized entry. Unauthorized entry into SCP-XXXX's cell is grounds for immediate termination regardless of rank.
The cell, and specifically SCP-XXXX, must be monitored by at least two (2) personnel by camera. Any changes to SCP-XXXX's appearance is to be logged. Should SCP-XXXX take form of an area with a high population or a large area, personnel are to look away immediately before resuming observation. Due to the extreme monotony of standard SCP-XXXX observation, personnel are to be rotated twice daily.
Information regarding SCP-XXXX, including its existence is to be on a purely need-to-know basis. Experimentation with SCP-XXXX is to be conducted only with the permission of Dr. ████ ███████ or Dr. ████ █████████████. prohibited indefinitely.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a map printed on otherwise standard paper produced by ███████████ Products, Inc. in 20██, measuring 1.5m x 1m. SCP-XXXX gained Foundation attention when anomalous properties first became apparent. It was recovered by Agent ███████ ███ in ██████, Colorado, after the previous owner posted pictures and videos online complaining that a map he had purchased changed whenever he was not in the room. Class-C amnesics were applied and a replacement map (depicting the United States) provided.
During initial testing of SCP-XXXX, anomalous properties consistent with reports were observed, after which testing was concluded for several weeks besides confirmation of accuracy. However, more anomalous properties became obvious when experimentation resumed, showing that whenever the map is altered in any way, the area the map represents, hereby referred to as SCP-XXXX-1, is altered in the same way. After this discovery, much more strict containment procedures were approved.
Any damage done to the map is also repaired during an alteration event, even if the map is destroyed completely. Normal lapses in observation, such as blinking or sneezing, do not trigger an alteration event.
Experiment Log
Experiment A-1
Researchers Present: Dr. ████ ███████, Dr. ███ █████
Subject: D-1273 (no significant background)
Objective: Confirm reports of anomalous properties in SCP-XXXX
Date: 10/2/20██
<Begin Log>
D-1273 enters temporary containment cell
Dr. ████ ███████: D-1273, please approach SCP-XXXX.
D-1273: The Map?
Dr. ████ ███████: Yes. Take note of what is displayed on the map.
D-1273: Alright, it's Nebraska.
Dr. ████ ███████: Anything else?
D-1273: No. It's just Nebraska. States surrounding it too, I guess.
Dr. ████ ███████: Noted. Please look away for 10 seconds, and then look back at SCP-XXXX
D-1273 complies, as do observers, and expresses surprise when turning back around.
D-1273: What the hell?
Dr. ████ ███████: What has happened?
D-1273: Is this some sort of trick? Is it a screen or a projection?
Dr. ████ ███████: No, we have done nothing to change the object. Please answer our question.
D-1273: It's a map of…I have no idea. It's not Nebraska anymore. The box at the bottom says… A-zer-bai-jan?
Dr. ████ ███████: Noted. Can you repeat the procedure?
**After asking for clarification, D-1273 complies. Results are similar, showing a map of Stockholm. Dr. ████ ███████ concludes testing.*
<End Log>
Closing Statement: Initial reports seem to be truthful, not much more to really see. However interesting, object is not of much note.
Experiment A-2
Researchers Present: Dr. ████ ███████, Dr. ███ █████
Subject: D-4525 (holds masters degree in geography), D-2310 (former professor of geography at the University of ███████)
Objective: Grade accuracy of SCP-XXXX's maps
Date: 10/5/20██
<Begin Log>
D-4525 and D-2310 enter the containment cell
Dr. ████ ███████: D-4525 and D-2310, please approach SCP-XXXX.
both subjects comply
Dr. ████ ███████: Please take note of what is displayed on the map.
D-2310: It's a map of the Great Lakes region of Canada and the US.
Dr. ████ ███████: Is all the information accurate?
D-2310: Yes, as far as I can tell. I cannot see any inaccuracies.
Dr. ████ ███████: D-4525, can you confirm?
D-4525: Yes, the map is accurate.
Dr. ████ ███████: Noted. Please look away from the object for ten seconds, then resume observation of SCP-XXXX.
Subjects comply, as do researchers. Map shows properties consistent with previous experiment.
D-4525: What happened?
Dr. ████ ███████: Can you describe what is now displayed on the map?
D-4525: Yeah, it's uh…the world now. Robinson projection.
D-2310: That's slightly odd.
Dr. ████ ███████: Is the map as accurate as the previous one?
*Both subjects observe the map carefully*
D-2310: Looks like it.
D-4525: It's clearly very professionally made.
D-4525 taps the map near the equator, in Kenya
D-4525: It's really smooth, I like the material.
Dr. ████ ███████: Noted. Please repeat the procedure.
Subjects comply, as do researchers. Map's accuracy consistent after three more attempts, showing Canada, Mt. Kilimanjaro, and Tibet. Dr. ████ ███████ concludes testing.
<End Log>
Closing Statement: Maps seem to be accurate regularly, to a high degree. Keys and details also seem to available and structured similarly every time. It is my formal opinion that no more testing is required on SCP-XXXX.
Note: A large earthquake was registered in Kenya, near █████████████, during the time of testing. No connection was made until later.
Experiment A-3
Researchers Present: Dr. ████ ███████, Dr. ████ █████████████
Subject: D-4525 (holds masters degree in geography)
Objective: Test if SCP-XXXX has alteration events when observed by touch
Date: 11/12/20██
<Begin Log>
D-4525 enters the cell
Dr. ████ ███████: D-4525, please approach SCP-XXXX.
Subject complies
Dr. ████ ███████: Please note what is being displayed on SCP-XXXX.
D-4525: St. Helena. Seems just as accurate as before.
Dr. ████ ███████: That is not what we are testing for. Can you please place your hand on the map? Anywhere is fine.
Subject complies, placing his hand on a part of the map displaying the ocean. At the same time as testing, intense waves start in the area being displayed, sinking a ship with █ people onboard. Foundation ship in the area SCPS* Bonaparte *takes note of the event and relays information to site-█, where SCP-XXXX was coincidentally being held.
Dr. ████ ███████: Please repeat the procedure from the previous test.
Subject complies, as do researchers. As they do, Dr. ████ █████████████ is informed about the events near St. Helena.
Dr. ████ ███████: Any change in the map, or how the map felt during the change?
D-4525: Yes there was a change in the map, it now shows Bondi Beach, in Sydney. And no, I felt no change.
Dr. ████ █████████████ orders agents in the vicinity of Sydney to go to Bondi Beach and await further instructions.
Dr. ████ █████████████: One last request, D-4525.
Dr. ████ ███████ inquires as to the purpose of the additional request. Dr. ████ █████████████ informs him of the events in St. Helena and that there may be a connection.
D-4525: Yes?
Dr. ████ █████████████: Please tap your fingers across the map, without breaking observation.
<End Log>
Closing Statement: That was…unexpected, to say the least. We had no idea SCP-XXXX had more properties than previously observed, and the new one is certainly much more alarming. Dr. ████ █████████████ and I both agree that greater security measures should be implemented around SCP-XXXX due to potential damage that can be caused by it, and request rights to further experimentation. Also, non-visual observation will not stop an alteration event.
Experiment B-1
Researchers Presiding: Dr. ████ ███████, Dr. ████ █████████████
SCP-XXXX-1: New Orleans, LA, USA
Date: 11/5/20██
Procedure: 2ml of water dropped on SCP-XXXX
Result: Major flooding in SCP-XXXX-1 consistent with location on SCP-XXXX. No reported casualties.
Notes: Water found in SCP-XXXX-1 was proportional to the amount dropped onto SCP-XXXX. However, while water remain cohesive on SCP-XXXX, it spread across in SCP-XXXX-1. Water on SCP-XXXX disappeared after an alteration event. Concerns for civilian population dictate that testing in large cities or otherwise highly populated areas is now prohibited.
Experiment B-2
Researchers Presiding: Dr. ████ ███████, Dr. ████ █████████████
SCP-XXXX-1: Outside Jizzakh, Uzbekistan
Date: 11/15/20██
Procedure: SCP-XXXX is to be burned at a temperature of 260° C.
Result: SCP-XXXX-1 scorched, with thermometers showing temperatures consistent with test. Cleanup and distribution of amnesics to witnesses started immediately.
Notes: SCP-XXXX regenerated fully, replacing a small heap of ashes that were in its place.
Experiment B-3
Researchers Presiding: Dr. ████ ███████, Dr. ████ █████████████
SCP-XXXX-1: Farm belonging to ███ ████, GA, USA
Procedure: SCP-XXXX is to be cut in half using scissors.
Date: 11/22/20██
Result: SCP-XXXX-1 suffered heavy devastation in a straight line. A trench was formed across the entirety of SCP-XXXX-1, and anything in the path of the trench obliterated. Depth of trench proportional to thickness of SCP-XXXX. ███ ████ given amnesics, cover story of drunk drivers on a rampage provided.
Notes: SCP-XXXX regenerated fully.
Experiment B-4
Researchers Presiding: Dr. ████ ███████, Dr. ████ █████████████
SCP-XXXX-1: Krasnoyarsk, Russia
Procedure: SCP-XXXX is to be exposed to a fan blowing air at 10 km/h.
Date: 12/1/20██
Result: Area had negligible difference in air temperature or wind speed.
Notes: SCP-XXXX is apparently not affected by being moved itself, or by air hitting it. It is likely that
Experiment B-5
Researchers Presiding: Dr. ████ ███████, Dr. ████ █████████████
SCP-XXXX-1: Northern Territory, Australia.
Procedure: SCP-XXXX is to be drawn on with a ███████-brand marker, colored blue.
Date: 12/7/20██
Result: SCP-XXXX-1 given distict blue hue, including the air up to 10m, consistent with proportional thickness of ink on map. Hue cleanup has proven immensely difficult, as such area will be on lockdown for the time being, given designation SCP-XXXX-NT.
Notes: Blue ink on SCP-XXXX gone by next alteration event.
Experiment B-6
Researchers Presiding: Dr. ████ ███████, Dr. ████ █████████████
SCP-XXXX-1: Mt. Tsurugi, Japan
Procedure: SCP-XXXX is to be folded in half.
Date: 12/15/20██
Result: SCP-XXXX-1 goes from generally rounded mountain to jagged, with a knife edge peak.
Notes: Heavy amnesics supplied to residents, and information regarding Mt. Tsurugi is to be altered to fit the current facts.
Experiment B-7
Researchers Presiding: Dr. ████ ███████, Dr. ████ █████████████
SCP-XXXX-1: Rocky Mountain National Park, CO, USA
Procedure: SCP-XXXX is to be placed in an artificial vacuum.
Date: 12/30/20██
Result: All flora and fauna in SCP-XXXX-1 killed, including several campers who evaded MTF evacuating the area killed.
Notes: SCP-XXXX not harmed during the experiment. Because of the civilian casualties, the Ethics Committee has ruled that Dr. ████ ███████ and Dr. ████ █████████████ are to be removed from SCP-XXXX duty, as well as disciplined. Dr. ███ █████ is given jurisdiction over SCP-XXXX, and he has chosen to cancel further experimentation pending further review.
Experiment B-8
