SCP-3704

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures:

SCP-3704 is to be kept within a synthetic polymer container approximately 30 centimeters width by 100 centimeters height. The container is to be cooled to a temperature of 43.15 degrees Kelvin. The container is to be replaced weekly and any residue of SCP-3704 is to be broken apart , and ground into a fine dust (Note: grinding apparatus must be sterilized thoroughly before, and after utilization). Pulverized SCP-3704 must be passed through a filter with pores around 1 micron to ensure all coagulations are broken apart, then placed into the new container. Personnel handling SCP-3704 are required to be equipped with or Hazardous Materials suit certified for strong acid compounds and enzymes. In the event of a breach, areas of the facility affected must be sealed, and the climate must altered to low humidity and low temperatures.

Description:

SCP-3704 is a micro-organism that infects a host and rapidly reproduces. When an organism is infected, SCP-3704 multiplies at an exponential rate, causing signs of infection within approximately 1 to 2.5 hours. Early symptoms include, hallucinations, bleeding nose and skin, and [DATA EXPUNGED]. Late stages of disease include decomposition of hard tissues like bone and cartilage, caused by the microbe attaching to the skeleton and excreting strong acidic compounds; despite consistent tests, the compound has yet to be identified. In event [REDACTED], █ █ █ █ █ survived approximately 3.5 hours without any skeletal structure before inevitably expiring. SCP-3704 was discovered inside a Soviet military outpost in [REDACTED]. Inside the facility, several corpses were found of the facilities’ personnel, only soft tissues remained. Logs were found at the facility documenting the event; they are located at █ █ █ █ - █; express permission is required by an administrator for access to these records. SCP-3704 will sometimes colonize outside a host, creating SCP-3704-1, a mucous-like substance. SCP-3704-1 will attach to walls and other structures and will disolve on contact, as it is surrounded by incredibly strong acid. Caverns were discovered at █ █ █ █ █ █ █ █ █ █ and are believed to be created by SCP-3704-1's acidic compounds over years of feeding on residual bacteria. Extreme caution when approaching, the substance is not only acidic, but will quickly infect. Any personnel who comes in contact with SCP-3704-1 must be decontaminated, and placed in quarantine. Any Class-D personnel who comes into contact with SCP-3704 must be promptly decontaminated, terminated, and cremated. SCP-3704 is highly vulnerable to extreme cold, and falters in dry climate.

Test Log

1.) Bleach and other strong bases have shown to combat secreted acids; Development of a base spraying apparatus is underway.

2.) Subject D-49238 seemingly showed no signs of infection before rapidly deteriorating; Indicated that specimen is evolving to be a much quieter killer, more testing is recommended.

3.) Subject D-80049 was administered (1) capsule of SCP-500 early in infection, and made a full recovery. Late stages of bone decomposition are not expected to be remedied by SCP-500.
