Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX should be contained in a 4 by 4 meter cell lined with water and fire resistant materials. Walls and flooring are to be both highly water and fire damage resistant for ease of cleaning by regular cleaning by class C sterilizing agents1 and heat based sterilization on a weekly basis. All resulting residue remaining from standard sterilization procedure must be collected, properly contained and sent to site ████ for further testing to ensure successful sterilization. The cell is to be equipped such that that all parts of the interior may be covered in sterilization solution and secondary flame sterilization within no less than thirty seconds. At no point should any fluids or materials be removed from the cell without sufficient permission, which may be given by staff of at least level 3 clearance. If any biological development is to be found unaffected by current sterilization techniques, it is paramount that emergency incineration installments be activated at full force and kept on for no less than five minutes to ensure that said biological developments have been successfully eliminated.

All personnel entering the cell must wear standard anti-contamination suiting as well as undergo standard full-body cleansing procedures beforehand as to minimize all chances of bacterial, viral, and fungal interaction with SCP-XXXX. After successful sanitization, authorized personnel may enter and interact with the object2. Upon exiting, personnel must again perform standard sterilization procedures as to ensure all potential biological developments attached have been neutralized upon exit. Afterwards said personnel are to be placed under contained observation in site ████ until deemed unaffected. If personnel are deemed affected by SCP-XXXX, they are to immediately be reclassified as class E personnel. All areas and personnel having been involved with said personnel post interaction with SCP-XXXX must undergo thorough investigation by site ████ staff for potential signs of cross contamination. All areas and personnel of note must then be treated with necessary sterilization procedures as to ensure no possibility of a contamination breach.

Sufficiently affected personnel are to be also classified as instances of SCP-XXXX-2 and are to be quarantined for further research by section ████. Upon completion of research on said instances of SCP-XXXX-2 and any potential instances of SCP-XXXX-1, subjects are to be incinerated and all remaining materials are to remain in section ████ for further analysis and proper disposal. As part of the weekly cleaning procedure, fluid contained in SCP-XXXX is to be carefully sampled for possible biological contamination. If contamination is apparent, all fluid must be removed and sent to section ████ and the insides of SCP-XXXX are to be thoroughly sterilized until no presence of organic material can be detected; if no contamination is noted, said fluid may remain in the chamber.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a steel sensory deprivation chamber that is 1 meter wide, 1 meter tall, and 2.5 meters long. Besides a smooth, rustless, metallic exterior, the chamber has no other distinguishing features besides the sealing hatch on its front. Inside contains roughly 0.5 kiloliters of highly concentrated epsom salt solution. Any amount of fluid removed results in the chamber immediately refilling to its original volume. Addition of other liquids or materials results in said liquids or materials disappearing on contact with the fluid with no trace of where said liquids may have gone. Any organic material present remains unharmed however. Once biological material is introduced into the chamber within 4 to 8 hours the material will be converted at the cellular level into instances of SCP-XXXX-1.3 If sufficient time is given, these cells will double by mitosis roughly every 7 hours. If left by itself, this material will continue to multiply and grow until the increased volume leaks from the chamber, whereby rate of cell division is moderately slowed to one tenth of the original rate. Class C sterilizers have been found sufficient in destroying instances of SCP-XXXX-1 on a cellular level, though eradication by fire is still performed as a secondary safety precaution.

The steel that makes up SCP-XXXX appears to be resistant to most forms of chemical erosion as well as temperatures up to 2,500°C. While sufficient physical force may warp or wear the steel surface of the chamber, within 2 to 4 hours the material and form of the chamber will return to as it was before the allotted damage. Any steel successfully removed will exhibit no anomalous properties and may be considered ordinary steel based on current findings.

Once the hatch of SCP-XXXX is closed, creating an air-tight seal, all forms of communications and transmissions, besides that of low level radio, are unreachable inside of the container. In addition, once sealed, the conversion of all known biological material to instances of SCP-XXXX-1 is accelerated up to four times its normal rate. Only Class-D personnel are to interact with the inside of the chamber, be it for cleaning, sampling, or experimentation purposes.

Upon sealed closure, those inside become oblivious to any signs of conversion no matter how severe progress undergone. Based on current findings, the following anomalous effects will only occur to subjects that are not wearing an anti-contamination suit: Subjects inside will gradually develop an intense urge to stay inside, and said urge will increase the longer they remain.4 Within five minutes of exposure, followed by an immediate evacuation, the subject will develop an increasing need to return to the chamber. The desire will develop within 1 to 2 days of entering the chamber. If the subject remains inside for more than 20 minutes, they will begin to hallucinate, describing sensations of floating in an expansive, fleshy space,5 along with having feelings of intense calm and pleasure. From this point on subjects will exhibit increasingly aggressive behavior to suggestions of removal from the chamber. If attempts are made for removal, subjects will attempt to lash out in resistance even after body parts have begun to decompose past use. If the subject is not removed within one hour of containment, all biological parts6 of the subject will convert to SCP-XXXX-1; following proper containment procedure all liquid inside the chamber is to be removed and neutralized before containment and delivery to section ████ for further analysis.

Before full loss of verbal function within 40 minutes, subjects have been known to mention an incredibly warm and homely sensation on top of those sensations expressed previously. Soon after, most recognizable speech will devolve into nonsensical burbling noises and continuous calling to what is often noted to be a mother.7 Any subject that is removed from the chamber before significant physical degeneration will continue to convert on the cellular level— though rate of conversion differs depending on length of time spent in SCP-XXXX and the environmental conditions outside of the chamber at the moment. At this point there have been no known ways to revert this process once cellular conversion has begun.

It is to be repeated that any personnel that appear to show any sign of being affected are to immediately be reclassified as Class E until the presence, or lack thereof, of conversion can be confirmed. A strong odor resembling that of a newborn infant, abnormally agitated behavior and a sliminess of the skin are all potential signs of early conversion and should be reported immediately. Failure to so so will result in immediate loss of rank, and potentially complete termination. As of yet, there has been no evidence that instances of SCP-XXXX-2 and SCP-XXXX-1 are contagious to those outside SCP-XXXX, but intense precaution should be taken nonetheless.

SCP-XXXX had been discovered in the basement of the long abandoned █████████ Psychiatric ward in ████████, PA after reports of numerous missing persons after a bizarre smell coming from the building began to circulate. Upon Staff exploration of the downstairs interior, it was noted that biological developments had grown thickly over all available surfaces and furniture, becoming dried and caked. Following where growth was greatest, staff eventually discovered the chamber covered in more than 30 centimeters of material. After successful removal of SCP-XXXX from the premises and the growths neutralized to best of the staff's immediate abilities, █████████ Psychiatric Ward was burnt down as to minimize the possibility of further contamination in the area. The incident was reported as occurring from that of a fireworks accident by unknown locals.

Addendum: It has been hypothesized that SCP-XXXX was originally used to treat the patients in the psychiatric ward for aggressive or psychotic tendencies. It is still not understood whether the chamber developed anomalous properties during construction or later on due to some unknown external influence. While it has been effective at calming down even the most aggressive D class personnel within minutes of direct exposure of the chamber interior, resulting symptoms of contamination and instances of SCP-XXXX-1 has lead researchers to deem this anomalous object strictly meant for analysis and experimentation.

Further research in reversing the degenerative effects are currently underway.
