SCP-XXXX

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a Secure Storage Vault at Site-█ with video surveillance and must be protected by no less than 2 guards at all times. Removal of SCP-XXXX from containment must be approved by a level 3 or above personal. Opening SCP-XXXX outside of authorized testing will be met with severe disciplinary procedures, up to and including termination. It is prohibited to follow instructions of the book unless in a testing environment. The proper testing environment is a locked room with two armed guards outside the door.

Description: SCP-XXXX appears to be a book bound in the leaves of a tree and filled with parchment paper. The book is roughly 25 centimeters in width and 30 centimeters in height, with no visible writing on the front or back. When active, text in the native language of the user will appear on the pages. The book will seem to give a history of itself. The book claims to be a book made from the leaves of the tree Yggdrasil1 from Norse mythology. The book will try to persuade individuals to take it to ██████ latitude and ██████ longitude. It will do this by promising riches and power. The book is suspected to have minor telepathic abilities due to the scanning of test subjects’ brainwaves during tests. The book claims to “bring about Ragnarok2 ” when taken to this location. If taken to the location the book will then tell the user to place it in any tree present. If done so a field of energy will begin to expand from the tree in every direction, destroying all organic life within the field, excluding the tree. If the user is not able to get to the location, they will do anything in there power to escape their current position in order to go towards the location specified by the book (see Interview Log XXXX-A).

The following is a transcribed video log of an experiment done with SCP-XXXX and one D-class personnel.

Incident Report XXXX-A
On █/█/20██, SCP-███ breached containment and, subsequently, destroyed most of SCP-XXXXs containment storage vault. While helping clean the rubble, Agent ██████ found SCP-XXXX and, unknowing of its anomalous properties opened the book and began reading. Agent ██████ quickly fell under the influence of SCP-XXXX and was able to leave the site and made his way towards the location specified by the book. As Agent ██████ went towards the specified location the rubble clean up was finished and SCP-XXXX was reported as missing. It was quickly determined that Agent ██████ had taken the book off-site and MTFs began pursuing. Agent ██████ made it to the specified location shortly before the MTFs and placed the book in the tree. When this was done a spherical field of energy emerged from the book expanding at roughly 7kph. The field appeared to kill all organic life within it. Foundation efforts to contain the field failed as it passed harmlessly through all non-organic materials. The field was eventually stopped by aerial bombardment, which knocked the book out of the tree, retracting the field to its point of origin. The book was retrieved and taken back to Site-█. A small town was enveloped by the field and no survivors were found. A cover story was supplied stating that a nearby nuclear test misfired and destroyed the town. Agent ██████ turned himself in 3 hours after the incident. Agent ██████ was swiftly terminated.

Addendum 1: Further testing has concluded that the book can only persuade people and can not force people to do what it wants.

Addendum 2: The persuasive effects of the book do not appear to work when being viewed via video or photograph.
