Special Containment Procedures: Austin, Nevada is now a research outpost run by the Foundation. All permanent residents are Foundation employees. Due to the fact that U.S. Route 50 goes through Austin, the town is to operate as it did prior to the Foundation takeover. Entry to SCP-XXXX

Description: SCP-XXXX is an anomalous space that is accessed by the staircase to the second floor of Stokes Castle in Austin, Nevada. While the first floor is otherwise non-anomalous, upon getting to the top of the visible staircase, the subject will be transported to SCP-XXXX. If an individual is watching when the subject goes up the stairs, they universally see it as the subject continuing to walk upwards and through the wall.

SCP-XXXX will change on an irregular occasion.¹ The appearance of SCP-XXXX is the appearance that last occurred when someone entered it.

Victims of SCP-XXXX (hereafter referred to as SCP-XXXX-1) will invariably reappear at some point within the next six months. When asked where they were during the missing period, the story varies from subject to subject. They are, to date, always false. SCP-XXXX-1 are the victims as they were prior to entering SCP-XXXX, with the sole difference being that they have a new, seemingly vestigial organ located in the shoulder. The organ, SCP-XXXX-2, usually measures in length from 2.8 mm to 4.2 mm, depending on the size of the subject. Upon expiring and being buried², will undergo SCP-XXXX-3.

Addendum 1

Stokes Castle was constructed from 1896-1897 by Anson Stokes, a wealthy banker and mine developer. It was sparsely populated by the Stokes family until 1898 in which they sold all assets in Austin, and never returned to the village. The first account of SCP-XXXX was written in a diary by Helen Louisa Stokes, the wife of Mr. Stokes, which is located below.

10/24/1897, Sunday. Written on 10/26/1897, Tuesday
Today was a queer sabbath. Traveling west for a vacation, we stopped for the night at the town my kook husband decided to build a castle in. Well, Anson and Jr.³ had said we were going to sleep in it. I'd no qualms, though it was quite dusty from none having used it in since we last did. I still cannot believe what I saw. We'd brought a light and went in; Jr. inquired if he could sleep on the third floor. I didn't mind, nor did Anson, so after I cooked and ate dinner, I sat in my bedroll whilst saying good night to Jr. However, when they got to the top, I'd sworn I no longer heard their steps above. I called out to them; not a whisper on the wind. I walked mostly up the staircase before taking a peek around the room and calling out again, to be met with silence as was last time.

1. The time in which it takes for the change to occur can take anywhere from 4 minutes 19 seconds at the lowest interval observed, to 9 days 4 hours 28 minutes at the longest interval observed.

2. So far, cremation of any kind, including being turned into a gemstone, artificial reef, bio urns, and resomation have been shown to work, as long as SCP-XXXX-1's end location is underground or underwater.
