Special Containment Procedures: SCP-008 is to be kept under secure containment at Site-██ under all times during operational hours. In the case that the site is undergoing situations that present a threat to the site undergoing total containment failure and similar scenarios all current instances of SCP-008 used for research are to be destroyed via incineration and irradiation.

All personnel assigned to duties involving SCP-008 are to undergo routine bi-weekly physiological examinations and daily testing to ensure SCP-008 does not breach containment. Personnel assigned to Mobile Task Force Beta-7 "Maz Hatters" are to ensure the SCP is contained and all surrounding areas are to be kept clear to avoid breaches of containment procedures.

All personnel infected by SCP-008 are to be designated as SCP-008-1 instances. SCP-008-1 instances are to be kept at a distance at all times, and are to be met with deadly force directed to the cranium upon discovery in the case of unauthorized usage. Upon termination of the instances, they shall be disposed of by personnel with Type 1 HAZMAT gear equipped at all times during re-containment procedures.

Description: SCP-008 is a highly advanced protein with various samples contained at all well-known Biological Containment Facilities. All research on SCP-008 is highly classified and is aimed to prevent the future use of 008 for biological warfare. Such traits surrounding that have caused the Foundation include:

  • Rate of infection. 100% of subjects infected by SCP-008 have become instances.
  • Transmission. SCP-008 may enter a subject through exposed mucous membranes and all bodily fluids. SCP-008 is NOT transmissible via air or water.

Symptoms that may occur to a subject when they're infected with SCP-008:

  • Flu-like symptoms that includes high fevers, and may lead to severe dementia in later stages.
  • Coma onset roughly one day after infection. Coma onset will then be considered the onset of death.
  • Sporadic cell necrosis resembling gangrene, surviving tissue will resume normal functions, becoming highly resistant.
  • Oxygen storage in red blood cells greatly increase, causing increased muscle endurance and strength.
  • Total organ failure.
  • Low metabolism at levels in which the subject can survive for 10 years without additional nutrition.
  • Advanced motor abilities are damaged, with cognitive abilities becoming retarded and extremely erratic.
  • Subjects may be able to adapt to brain damage, only being able to regain the ability to do basic physical activities.

Due to the high complexity of SCP-008, it is believed to have not been originally been on Earth due to it's abilities to displace the ecosystem.

Addendum: Upon further testing into SCP-008, it was discovered that SCP-500 is able to reverse and cure the effects of SCP-008, even in advanced stages.
