The location of SCP-XXXX-1 from a satellite image of ████ Crater on the Moon.
Special Containment Procedures: The perimeter of ████ Crater has been lined with 8 cameras that constantly record any occurrences surrounding SCP-XXXX-1. Should any of the cameras cease to function, a shuttle should be sent with an automated drone to either repair or replace the faulty camera. A ninth camera is placed directly in front of the "front side" of SCP-XXXX-1, equipped with a stronger light filter, to closely observe the signalling process and record designs present on SCP-XXXX-1.
Satellite Luna-27 is set in orbit around the Moon to pass over ████ Crater every 2 hours. All publicly available satellite footage of the area has been overwritten to show no visible anomalies. The orbital patterns of satellites SAT-4-M10 and TI-02 have been modified to pass over SCP-XXXX-2 and SCP-XXXX-4, respectively. During any Alignment Events, each satellite is to record the patterns of every signal, which is to be relayed to research databases in Site-98.
Past attempts have been made to find a plausible way to contain the effects of SCP-XXXX. The only known methods of containment are only partially successful and/or only last for a limited amount of time. Given the locations of SCP-XXXX instances, it is possible that containment may not be feasible until further insights can be made. Until any long-term containment methods are discovered, no personnel are to enter a 5km radius of any instance of SCP-XXXX .
+ Access Special Containment Procedures B: Discontinued August █, 2███ <DENIED>Description: SCP-XXXX is a number of large pillars that have been observed to only exist on certain moons of planets in the solar system. The moon in particular that each is on is also the largest moon for that planet1. Each object resembles an Ancient Egyptian obelisk approximately 300 metres tall, and stands on a elevated circular platform approximately 1600 metres in diameter. The obelisks themselves are composed of a gray, durable material partially composed of lead, and titanium. The platforms, however, appear to be mostly granite, basalt, and aluminium.
Whenever the planet that an instance of SCP-XXXX orbits around is relatively aligned with both the Sun and another planet, or planets, with another obelisk, an anomalous event takes place between obelisks. The usual sequence of these occurrences is as follows:
SCP-XXXX-1 during an alignment event from a distance.
- The two planets align with the Sun and the instances of SCP-XXXX on their largest moons begin emitting a white light from their peaks which gradually becomes more luminous.
- The objects begin transmitting "signals" of electromagnetic bursts between them, occurring in both directions, sometimes simultaneously. Said signals rarely follow a determinable format or structure, and are almost entirely random, though brief sections of morse code and rhythmic beats have been found in signals leaving SCP-XXXX-1 on the Moon. The transmitting of signals have shown to last between 5-126 minutes from different events.
- All instances of the object then transmit entirety of the signals to varying locations on the planet Mercury at a drastically accelerated rate. From Mercury, the signals are further delivered to every instance of SCP-XXXX. It is unknown how this process occurs as no structures resembling the obelisks have been found on Mercury in any of the locations where the transmissions are received or emitted. If line of sight to Mercury is not available2, the signals have shown to first be transmitted to the planet Venus, and then to Mercury. The functionality of signals reaching Venus follow the same anomalous case as the signals reaching and leaving Mercury.
- Upon the signals reaching back to the planets involved in the initial alignment event, minor or severe occurrences have been observed on the surface and inside. These have included, but may not be limited to, storms, seismic activity, tidal activity, and the death of plants and animals. The varying "intensity" of these events appear to correlate with the number of planets involved, though causality has not been proven.
Each instance of SCP-XXXX-1 has a number of symbols engraved on each of its sides. These symbols differ from each instance, and don't include any visuals that appear man-made, except for basic shapes and patterns. After each alignment event, some symbols vanish from the surface of the object and others will appear. The only consistency across each object is a rudimentary diagram of the solar system with the planets involved in the most recent event visibly highlighted.
Discovery: Only SCP-XXXX-1 was known to exist upon it's discovery in 1983, when a signal was found being sent to Titan3. Additional satellite imagery was needed on the far side of the Moon to fully locate the site of the event. As further alignments occurred, the knowledge of the other SCP-XXXX instances was revealed, with the first official record being taken on May 24, 1983. See Document XXXX-TER-10982 and Document XXXX-AST-11055 for further details.
NOTE FROM RESEARCHER
SCP-XXXX is strange in that there seems no particular reason why it keeps doing the things it does to our planets. If we were to assume that these signals have some sort of meaning then we are to assume that there's a conversation going on that we can't be part of. Unless these objects are the equivalent of cell phones for "gods of space", then I don't think that there's much method to the madness. The only area of particular concern is the potential danger that they can pose to the Earth. If they can potentially create even more devastating effects, then we must find a way to contain them. And if SCP-XXXX has been around for a long time without us knowing, how do we know it hasn't done this in the past? That's only my thoughts, though. Most of the junior researchers believe that I'm thinking too hard.

Incident Report XXXX-C01: After the Foundation predicted the alignment of Earth with Mars and Saturn on June 5, 2016, a test was initiated to determine containment capabilities of SCP-XXXX-1. In the preceding months the satellite Luna-23A was designed to intercept, block, and modify any ingoing or outgoing signals from SCP-XXXX-1. Following the alignment event, the satellite proved to function as planned and continued use was approved for future events. These procedures continued to work until the alignment of Earth and Uranus on October 6, 2016. SCP-XXXX-1 transmitted a repetitive signal for approximately 4 minutes before ceasing all function. 10 minutes later, the obelisk emitted a continuous electromagnetic burst of a near that of observed gamma-ray bursts, resulting in Luna-23A heating to the point of melting, and being sent completely out of orbit. All of the cameras surrounding SCP-XXXX-1 also ceased to function, leaving the Foundation with minimal footage of the event. However, it is known that after the incident, the obelisk continued to function as normal due to the observation by a working nearby satellite. Special Containment Procedures C have been archived after the incident.

Addendum XXXX-0A: Through the various tests conducted with SCP-XXXX-1 in particular, results show potential signs of intelligence within the object. On occasion, the symbols displayed on its surface have included that of Latin, English, Mandarin, and Hindi transcriptions, as well as depictions of humans in a number of scenarios. Such symbols are typically nonsensical and do not follow a general subject, but more than once have directly addressed the human race. All cases of this have been translated and transcribed below:
- ?WHAT DO? YOU WANT HERE?
- !NOW STOP THIS PLANET PEOPLE!
- !TERRA MUST! KNOW!
- !GONE GONE GONE GONE GONE!
- ?WHY? BATTLE AGAINST HOME?
- A depiction of 2 humans in bulky clothing walking on a slightly curved landscape, with an apparent spacecraft nearby.4
- A diagram showing a ring of silhouettes holding hands around the planet Earth.
- A depiction of a space shuttle engulfed in flames next to a star.5
As well, SCP-XXXX-1 has shown other signs of intelligence with aforementioned brief sections of morse code in its transmissions, and other anomalous occurrences when interacted with. See Incident Report XXXX-A02 for further details. Research on any similarities in SCP-XXXX-2 through SCP-XXXX-6 is underway.
NOTE FROM RESEARCHER
I understand that these messages that SCP-XXXX-1 is trying to tell us makes it seem that it has a "brain" or something. Now I figure that it's just a defense protocol activated when it can't do its function, because I don't see how it can be intelligent. Surely, though, it does seem to take every chance it can get to keep working, which has made it a struggle to contain. Why these things keep "communicating" with each other is unknown to me, but at this point I don't think that a realistic answer lies within the bounds of our scientific knowledge.

Incident Report XXXX-A02: On August 9, 2009, OTF-Betel-83 "Deep Orange" was dispatched to examine SCP-XXXX-1 after it was believed that Special Containment Procedures B had made the area surrounding it traversable during an alignment event. Previous tests showed that the light emitted from the object could be absorbed such that clear observations could be made. The team recorded some of the symbols before the alignment event, and as it began, SCP-XXXX-1 breached containment. This resulted in an intense amount of light making contact with the team along with the mentioned behavior that could imply intelligence. A full video log of the incident is available.

VIDEO LOG A02
DATE: 08/09/2009
PERSONNEL: OTF-Betel-83 Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Echo, Foxtrot, SCP-XXXX-1
[BEGIN LOG]
Alpha: This is Betel-83 Alpha to Echo, can you hear me?
Echo: This is Echo, we hear you Alpha, should we move in on the object soon?
Alpha: We need to go in before it starts activating. So, Echo and Foxtrot will go around the hill on the left, and the rest of us will advance straight on.
Foxtrot: Affirmative, advancing.
[The team continue towards SCP-XXXX-1 until about 0.2 km away.]
Alpha: Okay, Echo and Foxtrot, set up where you are now to record whatever goes on down there. Shouldn't be much of anything, most of the light that it makes will be dimmed.
Echo: Alright, let's get set up. We might want to put a solar film on the cameras if things get too bright.
Alpha: That shouldn't be necessary, there won't be enough light to do that.
Bravo: Are we sure that this is safe? What if it gets real' bright?
Alpha: Of course it's safe, the engineers covered it top of it with a dome, remember? They even tested it with that rover, and the footage showed that there was hardly any light.
Bravo: Sure I remember. But XXXX has breached containment before, and that light is super bright, I just don't want to go blind.
Foxtrot: Do you want to stay back here with us and set up? We could use some extra-
Alpha: No, Bravo, you're coming with us. You're not going to get hurt. If we move fast enough, we'll get done before alignment even happens, okay?
[Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie continue to SCP-XXXX-1, before the alignment event takes place. They begin recording symbols found on the object.]
Charlie: Wow this thing is a lot more menacing up close.
Alpha: Ha ha, yep. It's quite a tall thing. Let's see what this says here. Are you ready to take pictures, Bravo?
Bravo: [Pauses momentarily] Yes, I'm ready. You know, I can't see the symbols that are way up there, right?
Alpha: Sure, sure. We'll have to back up to see those. Anyway, let's see what we have here. Uhh… I'm not quite sure what these symbols are. They're not like anything we've seen on Earth. Maybe there are some pictures on here? I don't know.
Charlie: This one hears looks kind the Earth, no? With people all standing around it?
Alpha: Hey, you're right! Bravo, come take a picture of this.
[The team observes all sides of the obelisk until they are on the last side with symbols.]
Echo: Alpha, this is Echo, please be aware that the alignment event will be happening shortly.
Alpha: This is Alpha, we have some more pictures to take before returning. We'll be back soon.
[Some time passes as more pictures are taken.]
Alpha: Have we photographed this part yet, Bravo?
Bravo: No, I don't think we have, but we've better go soon.
Echo: This is true Alpha, you have about two minutes until XXXX-1 starts activation.
Alpha: It's not a problem. We can stay here to watch the symbols change.
[The team finishes photographing the object as the alignment event begins.]
Foxtrot: Five seconds remaining. Three, two, one, alignment now.
[SCP-XXXX-1 begins emitting light which is halted by its containment structure. The symbols on the object begin to change as incoming signals are blocked.]
Alpha: You see Bravo, nothing bad. Echo and Foxtrot, everything looking alright over there?
Echo: The cameras are recording fine.
[Whispers are heard from Echo directly to Foxtrot.]
Alpha: Wonderful. Now let's see if these symbols start to change here… Aha! Look here, it has some words on it!
Charlie: What? It doesn't usually have text on it, right? Bravo come photograph this, it says… "Now stop this planet people?" And then, there's, what is that, Chinese text?
Bravo: This isn't supposed to be happening. Do you think that it knows that we're here, or what we did to it?
Alpha: The report didn't mention anything about it being able to write. This is rather-
Echo: This is Echo, we've detected an unusual amount of high-frequency light coming from XXXX-1, more than the rover had detected. You might want to come back in case things become to bright to see. Wait- wait a minute.
Alpha: What's going on over there? What are you seeing?
Echo: Alright you need to get away from it now. It's emitting far more than it should be, and it could be dangerous to stay there longer.
[SCP-XXXX-1 is seen producing an intense white light that shifts to orange, suggesting an immense amount of heat.]
Bravo: [Looking up at the source of light.] Holy [EXPLETIVE REDACTED]! I'm getting [UNINTELLIGIBLE] right now!
Foxtrot: Move faster! This thing looks like it's going t-
[Foxtrot discontinues speaking as the containment structure around SCP-XXXX-1 melts and explodes away. The camera footage only displays a bright orange color.]
Echo: This is OTF-Betel-83 Echo reporting Site-██ Control! SCP-XXXX-1 has breached! The rest of the team may be gone, does anyone copy?
[Silence for approximately 4 seconds.]
Echo: Hello? Can anyone hear me? He-
[Audio and video feed cut out.]
NOTES: Following the incident only Echo returned to the landing module to return to Earth. Special Containment Procedures B were discontinued it was designated that no personnel are permitted to approach any instance of SCP-XXXX.
Deleted/Reworking
Needs some more clinical toning, as well as some further explanation.
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained within a standard locked containment room in Site-64. Only one D-Class personnel is allowed in the room with the object at a time in order to prevent potentially violent emotional releases. Anyone who expresses discomforted behavior after experimenting with SCP-XXXX should be taken in for psychological evaluation and questioned on the effects of the object.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an ancient queen-sized6 bed whose age is suspected to be around the time frame of the Inca Empire7. It is composed of a frame made from wood of a Swietenia mahagoni tree, that has various inscriptions on it that have yet to be deciphered. A large "mattress" of sorts fits within the frame, found to be made out of a combination of leaves and feathers inside a layer of cloth. Both the mattress and the frame are stained with dried blood whose DNA samples have been found to come from various subjects.
If one approaches SCP-XXXX, memetic properties begin to exert on one's mind. The object begins by making the subject drowsy, a minor effect, though vital to the other effects of SCP-XXXX. If anyone goes to lie down in SCP-XXXX, it has been shown that they will always reach an unconscious state.
The remaining property of SCP-XXXX is usually only present to a subject being tested upon, that occurs within their unconscious "dreams". Anyone who tested with the object claimed to have had experienced a similar effect. That is, they remember lying down on the object, but not falling unconscious, and instead standing back up and walking out of the containment room doors. They then will usually see a figure8 that will beckon to them, as well as human figures that may surround the figure. They describe SCP-XXXX-1 as a tall, shadowed figure, potentially wearing a large mask. If any subject chooses to "follow" SCP-XXXX-1, a number of physical effects begin happening not only in their subconscious realm, but in reality as well.
Only the following effects have been known to occur:
- Mild spasms
- Heavy breathing
- Screaming
- Sweating
- Vomiting
- Threatening movements of the body9
- Several cuts in the skin
- Self-induced strangulation
If the subject is woken up or wakes up naturally, they express a form of skepticism of the physical world around them. Many express a sense of confusion, mild irritation, and weariness. Some others will express violent behavior claiming that they are trying to "defend themselves". When questioned about what they saw, most can only recall a few things, that being SCP-XXXX-1 and the, usually hostile, actions taken upon them by it.
Testing Log:
Test A - July 17, 20██
Subject: D-10348
Procedure: Subject was placed in a the containment room with SCP-XXXX and told to lie down in it.
Results: The subject almost immediately fell unconscious, in which he expressed many mild spasms in his sleep. This eventually turned into heavy breathing, sweating, and expressing some violent movements. When the subject was woken up, he was confused as to what had happened, and if he was unconscious or not.
Test B - August 2, 20██
Subject: D-19045, D-15074
Procedure: Both subjects were placed in the containment room with SCP-XXXX and told to lie down in it next to each other.
Results: They both expressed similar effects to the previous test, with screaming taking place as well. When they awoke, D-15074 began screaming at D-19045, who at the time was highly dazed. D-15074 began acting hostile towards D-19045, leading to several bruises and a fractured rib. Both subjects were removed from the room.
Test C - August 30, 20██
Subject: D-9088
Procedure: The testing procedure is the same as that of Test A, however a light blanket was provided to the subject at his request for "comfort".
Results: D-9088 began showing similar effects as subjects in previous tests, in this case there was sweating, heavy breathing, and moderate spasms of the limbs. 60 seconds into the test, the subject suddenly threw his hands around his neck, and began strangling himself. The subject's body was now rapidly flailing, and vomiting started to occur. A security guard was sent into the room and prevented the subject from ceasing to operate biologically as well as return his consciousness.
Interview Log:
Interviewed: D-15074
Interviewer: Dr. Leopold
Foreword: After D-15074 acted hostile in Test B he was interviewed to determine the causes of his actions.<Begin Log, 14:33:21.05>
Dr. Leopold: Alright then D-15074, tell me a little about your… experiences with SCP-XXXX.
D-15074: Firstly, I want you to call me Henry. I… don't really want to talk what happened in that bed.
Dr. Leopold: Well, Henry, it's important that you tell us what happened, so we can know how to… help you recover from it.
D-15074: Some [EXPLETIVE REDACTED] stuff went on in there. I regret doing what I did, but I wasn't thinking straight… then. After what happened before I woke up.
Dr. Leopold: That's fine and all, but we need to know what did happen before you woke up.
[Subject shows many signs of discomfort and doesn't speak for approximately 30 seconds.]
D-15074: I remember laying down. Nothing happened after that. So I got up, and walked outside the room. There was… a man. He was so… tall. He wanted me to come to him, so I did, but… I felt so awful. Something in my soul, you know? I just… I…
Dr. Leopold: What? What happened?
D-15074: And then I woke up! I didn't know how I got back into the bed, I still felt awful, like he was still there! I couldn't think- at all! Then I started hitting her, the girl who was sent in the room with me. I don't know why, I just did… I don't like it in there.
[Silence for 15 seconds]
Dr. Leopold: Okay. Well, I guess that's it then. Thank you for your time, Henry, we'll get you some help right away.
<End Log, 14:35:09.36>
Closing Statement: D-15074 chose not to speak nor interact with any Foundation personnel, and his negative psychological conditions continued to exist.
Interviewed: D-9088
Interviewer: Dr. Leopold
Foreword: D-9088 was sent in for immediate questioning after strangling himself while experimenting with SCP-XXXX.<Begin Log, 11:14:06.09>
Dr. Leopold: That was a very close call, D-9088, tell me, what exactly ha-
[Dr. Leopold is cut-off by D-9088]
D-9088: What happened in there? What happened to… to me?!
[The subject acts skittish and holds himself in his arms as if to signify he was cold.]
Dr. Leopold: That's why I'm here, to discover what happened. While you were unconscious you began strangling yourself. We sent in a guard to prevent you from dying.
D-9088: That's not what I saw, man. All I remember was walking off of that bed, and into the hallway. There was a… a man standing there, with a bunch of people around him. They looked, strange…
Dr. Leopold: What did you do when you saw this "man".
D-9088: I… Well, I went to him, I think that's what I wanted… I think. But I couldn't stop looking at all those people. Something wasn't right about them, man! There was something wrong with their clothes, or maybe their faces, but… I felt them. There, next to him.
Dr. Leopold: I see. Now, did something violent happen, something that would make you strangle yourself while unconscious?
D-9088: As I walked closer I felt… awful. Like a sort of pain, but it wasn't really painful. I remember moving kinda oddly, then shaking. But those people, man… I still can't get over them. Then I woke up and I didn't know what happened. I was in the bed somehow and my head was hurting.
Dr. Leopold: Alright then D-9088, that was good. We'll see that you are cleaned up and taken for a more thorough psychological evaluation.
<End Log, 11:15:57.10>
Closing Statement: D-9088 was sent to an on-site psychoanalyst for evaluation, in which he continued to express skittishness and speaking of "those people".
History: SCP-XXXX was retrieved in an ancient village 15 kilometres away from the city of ██████, Peru. The object was first discovered by a Peruvian man who was taking pictures of the village for personal pleasure. Upon its discovery the man lied down in it for a "quick nap", to which he eventually awoke mildly shaken. He soon after told the authorities of the nearby city, and in the process the Foundation was notified of SCP-XXXX's existence. A containment team then located 25 kilometres away was dispatched to collect the object, however it was noted they had a troubling time extracting it due to the complicated structures surrounding it.
