SCP-XXXX in containment.

rating: 0+x

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a small, airtight box located at Storage Sector-03 and is not to be used by any personnel unless authorized by two personnel of Level 3 clearance or higher.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a rubber bathing toy in the shape and coloration of a cartoon-like swan. SCP-XXXX is black around the tips of the toy's wings and is mainly covered in a white hue. SCP-XXXX's beak has a small hole used for expelling liquids and has orange coloration.

SCP-XXXX's primary anomalous property is activated when a distressed individual comes in contact with it. When touched, SCP-XXXX will cause neurochemical changes that block large amounts of serotonin1 and endorphins, causing the subject (hereby known as SCP-XXXX-1) to feel an overwhelming sadness. Such sadness causes immediate crying and sobbing. SCP-XXXX-1 will continue this for approximately 3-10 minutes, depending on the type of grief the subject was experiencing. Whether it be as severe as losing a loved one, or as negligible as losing a large sum of capital.

The amount of tears lost by SCP-XXXX-1 is enough to fill up to 2 liters. The exact amount of tears appears to correlate with the intensity of the cause of the original grief. After approximately 15 minutes, the tears slowly dissipate, even if the surface cried upon has no noticeable holes. When inspected, no tears remain upon the surface, but, if SCP-XXXX is squeezed, SCP-XXXX-1's tears will be ejected from the beak. How SCP-XXXX is able to hold up to 2 liters of liquid is unknown, as it only has a volume of approximately 1-2 cups. Once the subject nears the end of SCP-XXXX's initial effects, they have often reported feeling happier and fulfilled. When inquired about the situation that caused them grief, they seem to have "let it go". No longer feeling as strongly stressed, dejected, or disappointed about the event that caused the original distress. (See Recorded Interview Log 035-36)

When SCP-XXXX-1 enters the state of mental contentment, the brain releases large doses of dopamine2. It is thought that SCP-XXXX has an electromagnetic field around it that intercepts neural electricity responsible for serotonin and dopamine, however, testing has not yet proved this theory.

Addendum 01: After additional testing with SCP-XXXX's capabilities, it appears that the dopamine in the brain released when first encountering SCP-XXXX never recedes. Causing the SCP-XXXX-1 subject to never observe any other emotion than happiness. Even when faced with extreme pain or mental anguish, SCP-XXXX-1 instances remain the same, happy persona.

In one case, a group of 7 SCP-XXXX-1 was in a recording room, speaking in regards to their experiences. Nearby researchers were taking notes, when an unexpected containment breach of SCP-████ prompted the researchers to hastily exit the room, following standard containment breach protocol. The group of SCP-XXXX-1 did not attempt to depart from the room and proceeded to talk normally. When SCP-████ entered the room, the SCP-XXXX-1 instances did not attempt to leave and continued conversing. 3 SCP-XXXX-1 subjects were violently killed by SCP-████, but no SCP-XXXX-1 subjects visibly exhibited pain or displeasure.

SCP-████ was contained before it could harm any other instances of SCP-XXXX-1. Further testing of the possibilities of SCP-XXXX properties was approved by the O5 council.
