Special Containment Procedures: Foundation Interstellar Space Satellite-8 (FISS) module1 is tasked with the regular (once every two sol) deployment of meteorological surveillance modules to the planetary atmosphere for sampling and analysis. Under the Simmerman Protocol, crew members on board FISS-8 are to maintain bilateral ties with the SCP-XXXX-1 instances (see Addendum XXXX-A).

Weekly assessments of surface activity are to be collated by crew members of FISS-8 and sent to Research Sector-12 through long-distance communication arrays. Under no circumstances is entry into SCP-XXXX permitted until its threat level has been determined.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a gigantic exoplanet measuring 20,000 kilometers across in diameter, located 6500 light-years away from Earth2 at the outer reaches of the Eagle Nebula cluster. The anomaly is observed to possess surface conditions inhabitable for humans despite the presence of significantly higher quantities of radiation and hot gases: samples of its atmosphere contain roughly similar percentages of nitrogen, oxygen, noble gases and carbon dioxide to that of Earth; geological and other meteorological phenomena show no drastic difference between the two planets.

SCP-XXXX-1 is a collective designation assigned to a colony of sentient beings inhabiting SCP-XXXX. Little is known regarding these instances. However, SCP-XXXX-1 appears to have achieved, at minimum, Stage One of the Kardashev Scale3.

The sole method of communication is through the ejection of several black, 3-meter long cylindrical capsules into planetary orbit once every 20 sol by SCP-XXXX-1. Attempts to analyze the exterior of these capsules have failed, as they dissipate instantaneously upon reaching the threshold altitude, producing bursts of colored illuminations. However, its contents formerly contained in these capsules can be retrieved thereafter.

The nature of said contents is often anomalous, yet non-hazardous to humans — items range from tablets of unknown material and engravings to small machines (internally operated through unknown means) that do not seem to serve any malicious intent.

Discovery: After the conclusion of the 4th galactic conquest within the Serpens Constellation, Foundation forces proceeded to establish surveillance zones through the deployment of satellites to the surrounding region (FISS-8 being one of them), discovering SCP-XXXX. Infrared imaging designated three major hotspots on SCP-XXXX:

Name4 Size (km in width)
Centuri 9000
Bleinsh 3500
Oja 750

Crew members on board FISS-8 collected the capsules' contents. To further examine SCP-XXXX and its inhabitants, the Overseer Council authorized the deployment of terrestrial artifacts5 from FISS-8 to the planet from 04/12/2057 onwards. FISS-8 then monitored any response originating from SCP-XXXX for the following period.

Throughout the next three sol, FISS-8 noted a noticeable drop in the frequency of the ejection of capsules from SCP-XXXX. On 04/15/2057, FISS-8 intercepted a capsule ejected from Centuri. Tablets of polished, metallic make were retrieved — lines of unintelligible language were engraved into the surface.

As the level of hostility of SCP-XXXX-1 is yet to be determined and in hopes of gathering more information, the Simmerman Protocol was established on 04/18/2057; FISS-8 was to routinely transport mundane objects to each of the three hotspots and await response. The following attachment is the full retrieval log as reported by FISS-8, from 04/19/2057 to 06/23/2057.

FISS-8:ITEM LOG

DATE: 04/19/2057

LOCATION OF ORIGINATION: Centuri

ITEM(S):

  • Three metallic tablets emblazoned with various indecipherable markings.
  • Hundreds of scrolls, each written in black ink.
  • A 30-centimeter long, silver dagger of unusually high sharpness.

NOTES: The dagger has been cataloged as an anomalous item and stored in a containment locker. The rest has been archived for future reference. In response, our crew had stored ten binded books (literature, novels, etc.) in a transport module and launched into SCP-XXXX.
