Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
5 meters into SCP-XXXX.
Special Containment Procedures: 10km2 of the area surrounding SCP-XXXX has been cordoned off under a cover story of unsafe geological tremors in its proximity. Foundation agents under the guise of geologists have been deployed to survey, extract and analyze samples originating from SCP-XXXX.
Only unmanned explorations are permitted into SCP-XXXX.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a massive marine sinkhole spanning 318 meters wide and more than 120 meters deep, located 70 kilometers from mainland Belize. Prior to Foundation intervention, SCP-XXXX was a widely-known tourist attraction for deep-diving and skydiving. However, between April and August 2006, the number of missing divers exploring SCP-XXXX quadrupled for no apparent reason. Civilian divers whose peers disappeared in SCP-XXXX claim:
- 10 meters into SCP-XXXX, divers sensed unusually warm temperatures.1
- 15 meters into SCP-XXXX, a deep, distant gurgling sound is heard, originating from SCP-XXXX.
- Said peer descended deeper into SCP-XXXX out of curiosity, where the frequency of air bubbles increased rapidly before abruptly ceasing.
- Any diver who had attempted to find said peer would be declared missing at 20 meters into SCP-XXXX.
- Fragments of stalactite would be observed, floating about near the inner depths of SCP-XXXX, partially coated with a red fluid. DNA analysis indicates this red fluid belonged to said peer, as well as divers who attempted to rescue them.
14 kilometers north of SCP-XXXX is Site-63. Due to its proximity to SCP-XXXX, the Internal Department requested full disclosure of Site-63's database.
After extensive searching, it appeared that Site-63 was not transparent in sharing with us the repeated incidents in SCP-XXXX: the first few incidents began from sometime in November 1963. Its past documents have been uploaded to this document below for reference. Investigations are still ongoing.
- Agent Callos Tridalon, Internal Department.
Several children in Belize City, British Honduras, circa 1955. All were reported missing weeks later.
[LOCK OVERRIDE:HIST-RECOVERED]
History: Recognized as British Honduras since the start of colonial rule in 1862, its citizens were subject to brutality enforced by the ruling government. Forced to work in dismal conditions at plantations and timber processing plants, slave revolts occurred across the country, necessitating increasingly oppressive methods employed by the colonials. Across the years, the general welfare continued to decline. Agricultural produce failed to return to its pre-war levels due to the repeated counts of slave revolts, accelerated consumption of resources to fuel its war machine, and other political skirmishes.
Meanwhile, the ASCI2 began to shift away from its isolationist and nationalist stance to a globalized organization that enforced the maintenance of the Veil after the conclusion of the Second World War3. As part of this shift, the Initiative began to recruit more to its ranks, gradually expanding its influence down south from 1947 onwards.
In 1948, British intelligence became increasingly aware of an "unknown enemy" in British Honduras; several reports by colonial authorities mentioned being followed, while some claimed that one of the civilians approached and initiated a conversation in fluent American English, with the topic of discussion often being completely out of context or nonsensical. Despite the launch of investigations, no decisive leads were found. From 1956 onwards, reports of disappearances rose to more than 20 in less than two days, but failed to gain traction. These disappearances mostly occurred within less populated areas such as villages and appeared to happen at night.
Pressured by indigenous leaders, local law enforcement foraged the villages, discovering an assortment of human bones belonging to more than 50 missing people in waste disposal bins situated within residential areas. Food aid and psychological rehabilitation wards were later established in affected areas. However, 50 people remain missing. Protests grew violent, causing approximately 5 million USD of damage to government property as of May 1957. Authorities later declared a state of emergency, adopting tactics congruent with the methodology used in suppressing the slave revolts.
The SCP Foundation constructed its first site in British Honduras, Site-63 in April 1959, specialized in the containment and cross-experimentation of indigenous anomalies.
Further information is restricted to personnel involved with Project "FALLING STAR".[LOCK OVERRIDE:DOCUMENTS-RECOVERED]
Addendum 1-D: Update
Video log (09/12/2006)
The following was a 35-minute video recording logged by Foundation-issue ASUD5 deployed into SCP-XXXX on 09/12/2006. Contact with ASUD was lost thereafter.
00:01
[BEGIN LOG]
00:00 Camera feed activated. View of the side of the ship and the ocean.
00:03 Muffled shouts. Camera shudders as clamp releases hold of ASUD. ASUD enters ocean surface.
00:09 Lights activated. A low-pitched whine is audible in the distance.
00:12 ASUD steers itself and travels deeper. It reaches the ocean floor.
00:15 ASUD surveys the ocean floor, which is littered with plastic waste.
00:28 Ocean floor terminates at this point. ASUD enters SCP-XXXX.
00:30 Hundreds of stalactite formations line the inner walls.
00:34 A low, distant rumble, presumably originating from SCP-XXXX.
00:37 Minor static disturbance.
00:52 A low-pitched whine from below ASUD, approximately 60 meters away.
01:09 The low-pitched whine ceases.
02:21 Minor static disturbance, followed by a loud thud.
02:24 ASUD steers around. A single stalactite fragment is seen on its back. It then drifts off.
03:43 A single oxygen tank, bent at the center, is left hanging on a protruding stalactite by its strap. Its readings show no oxygen is within the canister.
05:28 Scratching is heard nearby. ASUD steers in the direction of the source, but finds nothing. ASUD continues down.
06:16 Streams of air bubbles are seen from the inner depths.
08:05 Deep, muffled, gurgling sounds are heard from below.
11:42 Vision is partially obscured by a red mist.
11:58 Several shredded pieces of a brown-colored pectoral fin floating about.
13:53 A single illicium with the esca6 attached. It terminates unevenly at its rear end.
15:34 A sudden whooshing sound behind ASUD. ASUD steers but finds nothing of interest.
15:48 Second instance of whooshing sound. This time, a loud thud is heard, knocking ASUD to the side. ASUD immediately decelerates.
15:57 Another loud thud.
16:07 A muffled screech from behind ASUD.
34:23
16:10 A loud thud. Major static interference as the camera sways violently from side to side. ASUD collides into the walls, damaging its mainframe. ASUD collides four more times before cutting to black.
34:21 Video feed is intermittently seen before cutting to black. A single frame reveals hundreds of human skulls. The top of these skulls are completely missing.
35:08 Muffled vocalizations, before cutting to black permanently.7
