Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a box made of concrete in a standardized containment cell. All staff must have at least level 2 security clearance if they are to interact with SCP-XXXX. Research personel is advised to use gloves and is prohibited to spend more than 15 minutes in the presence of SCP-XXXX. Any personnel being in the presence of SCP-XXXX is to undergo psychological evaluation no later than an hour after contact as well as follow-up testing no later than four (4) days after initial contact. A psychologist is to remain on site at all times. Personnel is not allowed to be in the presence of SCP-XXXX more often than twice every six months.

Description: SCP-XXXX appears to be a discoloured "manekineko" lucky cat statue of 15cm height with closed eyes. While previously presumed to be made of ivory, recent testing has revealed it to be made of human bones. Exposure to SCP-XXXX, whilst initially having benefitial effects on the subject's psyche, seems to create an addiction to the presence of SCP-XXXX. Furthermore, prolonged exposure creates paranoia, manifesting in vivid dreams of the statue. With each dream, the eyes open a little further, which increases the paranoia. Seven incidents of D-class personnel depriving themelves of sleep till death have been recorded so far. Two incidents of personnel being brutally murdered and having their eyes and bones removed have occured after prolonged contact with SCP-XXXX. During the presumed time of the attacks, all electric devices within a 75 m radius of SCP-XXXX and the subjects simultaneously lost all function for approximatly five (5) minutes. It is unclear whether SCP-XXXX carried out the attacks itself or if something different commited the murders.

Addendum XXXX-1: Any living being coming into proximity of SCP-XXXX for more than 15 minutes begins to feel calm and satisfied. This effect has been observed in previously violent D-class personnel, dogs, cats, horses, elephants, snakes, tigers, rabbits and any other personnel that has had contact with SCP-XXXX. This effect has been previously used in the treatment of traumatized personnel, but such "treatment" has been discontinued after incident [redacted].
After 30 minutes of exposure, subjects began to exhibit signs of joy, and have stated "that they feel energized." However, after leaving the presence of SCP-XXXX, signs of slight anxiety were observed.
After an hour of exposure, subjects were optimistic in regards to any given topic, ranging from the weather to global climate change. Approximately three (3) hours after exposure, the subjects' views changed drastically towards a very negative one. This state lasts for six hours, after which subjects recovered almost completely. Some cases of depression lasting for 24 - 48 hours have been reported.
Subjects exposed to SCP-XXXX for a timespan of one (1) hour to four (4) hours showed the same signs as subjects exposed to th object for an hour, as well as reporting "thinking about SCP-XXXX often".
The same effect has been observed in subjects who have been repeatedly exposed to SCP-XXXX for a total amount of four (4) hours, regardless of length of exposure. Subjects report of "thinking about it constantly".
Exposure for time period of eight (8) hours, or reeated exposure totalling to that amount drastically alters subects' behaviour. Symptoms of withdrawal were present in all species exposed to SCP-XXXX, such as uncontrollable tremours, violent outbursts, crying, repeated requests to "see Neko-chan again", loss of bowel control and drastic changes in body temperauture as well as profuse sweating. Subjects also reported on having dreams of SCP-XXXX. Subjects exhibit paranoid behaviour. Hindering any further contact to SCP-XXXX has no effect on subjects' mental state.
SCP-XXXX seems to only effect the room it is placed in, regardless of size.
The cumulative effect of contact with SCP-XXXX seems to subside after a time period of three (3) to six (6) months, depending on subject.

Addendum XXXX-2: SCP-XXXX was discovered in a tiny asian shop in [redacted] after repeated incidences of suicide and gruesome murders.
