Blue

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Foundation webcrawlers are to continuously monitor the Internet in search for uncontained instances of SCP-XXXX. Foundation personnel is to be inserted into selected companies operating in the entertainment industry in order to minimize risk of accidental creation of an SCP-XXXX instance.

Existing SCP-XXXX instances are to be contained in the following ways:
Digital files are to be replaced with non-anomalous analogs; all existing backups are to be erased.
Physical objects (including, but not limited to printouts, painted objects, dyed fabrics, etc.) are to be confiscated and incinerated, if possible. If there is no feasible way to secure an object, MTF Beta 42 (Bluebirds) is to be dispatched in order to modify the object accordingly, under the guise of a refurbishment company.

Individuals affected with stage 3 of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be hospitalized under the guise of non-anomalous protanopia. Individuals affected with stages 2 and 1 of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be administered amnestics and remain under scrutiny for the period of two (2) or one (1) months respectively. Should all symptoms of SCP-XXXX-1 cease during this period, individuals are to be considered cured and SCP-XXXX-1 instance contained.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an anomalous shade of blue, causing mild cognitohazardous condition (designated SCP-XXXX-1) upon direct, prolonged observation1. The exact wavelength on which SCP-XXXX manifests within visible light spectrum is between 475.█ and 475.█ nm2. Upon observing this specific shade for a sufficiently long time, an affected individual will develop SCP-XXXX-1, with the following symptoms:

  1. An individual develops a particular interest in the colour blue. This interest is strongly tied to vector that exposed an individual to SCP-XXXX.3 During this period, an individual will seek materials and media related to initial vector, although the strive would remain rational; an individual does not neglect his/her basic needs and does not exhibit extraordinary behaviour.
  2. This stage develops within two (2) weeks from onset of stage 1. Individual's obsession starts affecting his/her regular life. Noted examples include, but are not limited to spending excessive funds on media related to the vector, neglecting basic needs in order to satisfy the obsession and toxic social behaviour towards people not sharing the obsession. Hostile behaviour might extend to other individuals affected with SCP-XXXX-1 whose condition was caused by a different vector.
  3. Develops within two (2) weeks to one (1) month from onset of stage 2. Affected individual's obsession results with rapid social alienation and/or deterioration of bodily functions. Main sympton of stage 3 onset is a gradual loss of the ability to perceive colours; individuals first lose ability to recognize shades of red, progressing through orange, yellow and green to blue. Individuals then gradually lose the ability to perceive distinctive shades of blue, until the only colour visible to them is the exact wavelength of SCP-XXXX. Individuals at this stage will attempt to recreate SCP-XXXX propagate it through available media by any means at their disposal; this includes painting, dyeing, digital art and so on.

SCP-XXXX vectors include printed materials, electronic displays, fabrics, painted metal, plastic or wood, stained glass, holograms, makeup, hair dyes and light itself. Although the effect is caused by a very specific wavelength, technical issues associated with colour media display and reproduction may cause sections of SCP-XXXX appear in otherwise non-anomalous media. Testing with D-Class personnel indicates that as little as 0.5 cm2 is sufficient to trigger the effect. This area does not need to be contagious; smaller areas spread across larger surface incur same effect, provided they are observed as a part of the same, larger area.

Colour-blind people are immune to the effect, provided they are completely unable to perceive the blue portion of the spectrum. Tests with D-Class personnel indicate approximately [25]% of the population is largely immune to SCP-XXXX-1; even after prolonged exposure, such individuals do not progress past stage 1.

Analysis of SCP-XXXX-1 spread patterns indicates that most SCP-XXXX-1 cases appear among teenage/young adult individuals, regardless of gender. Correlation between specific media and increased frequence of SCP-XXXX occurrences has been noticed4; further research is pending approval, as well as insertion of additional Foundation operatives into K[adokawa], N[intendo], G[ames Workshop] and C[ygames] corporations to acquire additional data.

Application of amnestics during stage 1 and 2 has proven to be an effective means of containing SCP-XXXX-1 cases, although this does not reduce their susceptibility to future infection. No way to revert the effects of stage 3 have been discovered, save for inducing a complete and irreversible loss of eyesight.

Addendum 1: SCP-XXXX-A: Potentially significant media.

Upon analysis of contained cases of SCP-XXXX, it was noticed that fans of certain media, franchises and cultural phenomena make up a statistically significant portion of people suffering from SCP-XXXX-1. Vectors identified so far are:

Ace Combat, video game series by Bandai
Contrast, series of paints sold by Games Workshop
Diablo, video game series by Blizzard Entertainment
Finding Nemo, family comedy movie by Pixar
Fire Emblem, video game series by Nintendo
Granblue Fantasy, browser game by Cygames
Kantai Collection, browser game by Kadokawa
Kelly’s Heroes, war comedy movie by Brian G. Hutton
Konosuba, anime series by Studio Deen5
Magic the Gathering, trading card game series by Richard Garfield
Muhteşem Yüzyıl, TV series by Yagmur Taylan
Pacific Rim, action movie by Guillermo del Toro
Smurfs, comic series by Peyo
Starry Night, painiting by Vincent van Gogh

It should be noticed that the majority of vectors listed above belong to the widely defined ‘nerd’ subculture. Testing with pre-selected D-Class personnel to verify this correlation are pending approval.

It should be noted that while some vectors mentioned above contain extraordinary amounts of blue due to their theme, testing with media utilizing similar themes (such as A███ L███], a mobile game by M█████) or most widespread franchises utilizing the colour blue in their logos and colour palette (such as F███████ or T██████) failed to produce any SCP-XXXX instances.

Addendum 2:

As of ██/██/2019] first case of SCP-XXXX-1 caused by exposure to open sky has been confirmed. All cases logged so far are being reviewed on an individual basis in search for an earlier, overlooked case of sky-induced SCP-XXXX-1. Upgrade to Keter category is pending approval by the 05 Council.
