Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Staff are not to open SCP-XXXX, or attempt to ascertain the insides of SCP-XXXX through any means. SCP-XXXX is to remain stored in darkness below that of 0.0001 Lux. SCP-XXXX is to remain unexposed to any source of illumination or bright light which may cause objects inside SCP-XXXX to become visible from the outside (due to the partially-translucent material of SCP-XXXX). SCP-XXXX is not to be imaged or induced by any form of imaging device, such as ultrasound, infrared, x-radiation or magnetic resonance. The exact contents of SCP-XXXX are not to be established under any circumstances.

Description: SCP-XXXX resembles a nondescript, non-recyclable organic waste bin, for general consumer use and disposal. Printed information onto the material of SCP-XXXX recognise it to be the property of Harrow Council, London, England. SCP-XXXX consists, weighs, operates and functions identically to mobile bins produced by suppliers of Harrow Council, and appear superficially unremarkable. Due to this, it is suspected SCP-XXXX may have served use as an organic waste bin for Harrow Council unnoticed for many years.

SCP-XXXX actuates its anomalous effects when the interior is perceived by an individual in any way, most culpably, through direct line of site with the naked eye. Upon viewing, an allegedly unpredictable 'volume' will manifest within it. This volume will consist of an amalgamation of divided or intact bodies, belong to individuals suspected to be close or related to the observer (e.g: family, friends, employers, colleagues, teachers, councillors, shop attendants, taxi drivers, physicians, dentists, etc).

Volumes have been accounted to incorporate as little as 1 to as many as 6 bodies (identified by DNA), noted to become increasingly and disassociated and enmeshed amongst the other remains the more bodies present within SCP-XXXX. Concordant with this, physical trauma sustained on the bodies (ranging from mild bruising to fractures to complete limb amputation) matches the size of the volume. While large volumes contain unidentifiably scarred remains, small volumes (1-2 bodies) are remarkably undamaged, and appear to lack any discernible fatal injury that could mark their death. Trauma unanimously present on all remains resembles that sustained through crushing or compression, possibly the result of 'cramming' into the spaces inside SCP-XXXX. This also explains heightened damage invoked within large, more crowded volumes, where space is more limited.

Manifestations appear unsystematically, and almost selectively. For example, manifestations rarely occur in public, and often when the observer is alone. In practice, almost 95% of manifestations that occurred during SCP-XXXX's circulation through the public domain happened between 1-3 am. Special effort was made to induce SCP-XXXX to manifest volumes during testing, such as readjustment of the proximity between test subject and research staff. Manifestations also appear to be indiscriminate, but no research as of yet supports this.

Volumes will only manifest between moments of observation. Introduction of a new observer while the previous observer is still sustaining the previous manifesting will not invoke a new manifestation until both observers leave. In short, the manifestation of a volume cannot occur during viewing. Separation between observations naturally occurs through the closure of the lid.

An upwards capacity has not yet been established. Amendment: after testing, it is now understood volumes have a maximum capacity constrained merely by the physical volume of SCP-XXXX. See Addendum 1.1. (calculation of max. people possible, children, etc. grim stuff.)

Further analysis has established all volumes are comprised entirely of organic material. Non-organic material, such as metals, appear to have been entirely removed. Phones, keys, braces, glasses are entirely absent from all recorded remains. Some instances of wristwatches have been recovered, but only comprising or organics. Most clothing appears to be still intact on most of the more assembled bodies. It appears polymers, such as polyester clothing, are considered organic. Belt buckles, etc.

SCP-XXXX is predicted to have claimed at minimum 188 lives, 74 as a result of testing, 6 as a result of miscommunication. SCP-XXXX is suspected to have been so effective due to its resemblance to an organic waste bin, which according to Harrow Council, does not accord to individual household ownership, and instead operates on a mobile plan in which residents of Harrow request a period service (up to 1 week) with the bin. This appears to have allowed SCP-XXXX to mobilise across the district, and affect multiple households. This correlates with police reports, an estimated total of 63 calls matching "dead friends and relatives found inside bins".

However, police intervention was minimal. This is expected to be as a result of SCP-XXXX's methods of disposal. Volumes present within SCP-XXXX exhibit "super-accelerated" decomposition. Measurements reveal the decomposition cycle within SCP-XXXX to operate at a speed 15,000x faster than natural decomposition, matched against a normal reading from a spacious, outdoor, arid environment. Despite lack of water, detrivores and decomposers are abundant with SCP-XXXX, and appear to manifest alongside the bodies.

old man gives a list of people important to him. Some dead. those found in the bin match those that were highest and alive.

Further testing of the nature of SCP-XXXX's volumes is deemed impractical and will not be performed in the foreseeable future.
