SCP-XXXX, Taken prior to containment

Object Class: Safe Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be stored in a secure standard containment box. Only on-site scientists and administrators should have access to SCP-XXXX’s containment key. Any additional instances of SCP-XXXX discovered by the Foundation should be contained separately, but in a similar manner.

CONTAINMENT UPDATE
No personnel should be stationed within a 2m radius of SCP-XXXX for longer than one hour.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a brown stone with dimensions of 60mm x 40mm x 30mm and weighing 187g. Given its likeness to river rocks, it appears the specimen has been shaped and smoothed over by water erosion. For all appearances, SCP-XXXX is seemingly indistinguishable from any other rock or sediment found on a river bed.

Effects of SCP-XXXX do not initially present themselves when D-class personnel enter its vicinity. SCP-XXXX's memetic properties will take full effect after six hours of exposure to those within a 1m radius of its vicinity. SCP-XXXX will plant false memories of the subject discovering it as a child, usually from ages 9-12. While subjects' "memories" of discovering the specimen may vary in detail, all will include the following:

  • Subjects will consistently refer to SCP-XXXX as "the gift" throughout their recollections.
  • Subjects' memories will begin in a forest.
  • Subjects will discover a spring within in the forest.
  • A small pile of rocks similar to size and shape of SCP-XXXX are said to be in the center of the spring.
  • Subjects will claim they retrieved one rock from the pile and returned to their residence.
  • Subjects will claim they kept the “gift” and even brought it to the facility to “share” with personnel.
