Item Number: SCP-5479

Object Class: Euclid

cube

SCP-5479-2's appearance before addition of the locking mechanism.

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5479 is contained in 1m x 1m x 1m steel container (SCP-5479-2). The lid to SCP-5479-2 is sealed by a externally added 20-digit code lock, and the combination to said lock is only known by select O5 members. Which O5 members hold said knowledge is not to be disclosed at any time.

Object is, as of January 1st, 2020, contained in a Foundation bunker located 10km deep in the Earth's crust. Object is no longer contained by the Foundation. See Transmission LKR-03/9/20. After experimentation, zero personnel are allowed in SCP-5479's containment cell at any time without unanimous approval from the O5 Council. It is unknown how SCP-5479 originally appeared in the Foundation.

Description: SCP-5479 affects all humans with the capability of mature thought. Said subjects instantly made aware on viewing of the object's containment that a highly explosive and possibly apocalyptic object lies inside, even if their internal depiction of the object is entirely mundane.

Object was first discovered in Foundation containment on April 8th, 2005. More details on this incident noted in Testing Log SCP-5479.

It is unknown whether the device is armed. 99.2% of subjects aware of SCP-5479's existence will have a petrifying fear of opening the box, believing doing so will cause an XK-Class end of the world scenario. This fear is in tandem with the fear that the object can detonate at any time, and that the steel box holding the cube is all that can save humanity.

While having an unknown appearance, some subjects that have been affected by SCP-5479 each have a different, vivid picture of the object. Subjects report having "always known" its appearance, some even going as far as to develop PTSD and DID from previous trauma induced by the fear of the anomaly.

Current descriptions of SCP-5479 are as follows:

  • An American penny minted 1954
  • A nuclear warhead with a digital timer attached
  • An unwrapped stick of bubblegum
  • A incomprehensible fourth dimensional object

Note: Subject describing the fourth dimensional object quickly after committed suicide on the corner of SCP-5479's containment chamber.

THE

Subject's 3D model of the final description.

Note: Subject describing SCP-3041 has had zero previous experience with the object, effectively summarizing the entire document.

  • A blue sphere encased in two outer, red shells

0.8% of subjects, however, on learning of SCP-5479 will have a compulsion to open the box, taking any means necessary to do so. This includes murder, breaching of several Keter class SCPs' containment cells, and self-mutilation. These subjects are to be designated SCP as an instance of SCP-5479-1. Opening SCP-5479-2 is very difficult, the lid being nearly completely flush with sides.

Test A - April 8th, 2005

SUBJECT: Site 67 Staff

SUMMARY: SCP-5479's containment cell was found in a main hall of the light containment wing of Site 67. Several internal-security agents and researchers are sent into a panic, believing SCP-5479-2 to hold a world-ending explosive. The breach alarm triggers. After many other personnel trigger SCP-5479's memetic effects, one junior researcher, Ted Lockart, becoming an instance of SCP-5479-1.

Agent ████, having extensive knowledge of containment protocol, restrains Lockart before he is able to open the SCP-5479-3, which was not protected by a 20-digit lock at the time of the incident. Lockart proceeds resist, flailing wildly while not taking his eyes off of SCP-5479. After getting exceedingly violent, Agent ████ terminates the researcher.

RESULTS: Memetic/Cognitohazardous nature of SCP-5479 established, and construction of file begun.

Test B - October 12th, 2007

SUBJECT: D-39489

SUMMARY: D-39489 is introduced to SCP-5479's new containment cell 10km below ground. Subject immediately begins to pound on the door on sight of the object, vocalizing extreme terror and dread.

Subject is instructed to explain how they feel by researchers, wishing to know more about the anomaly. Subject describes a vivid image of a penny, minted in 1954, being placed into their mind, and stating that "This motherfucker's gonna blow."

RESULTS: First documentation of a physical appearance to SCP-5479.

Test C - January 2nd, 2010

SUBJECT: Senior Researcher ████ Clemente

SUMMARY: Dr. Clemente, by request on December 25th, 2009, is placed into SCP-5479's containment cell. He reports a sudden fear of the object on sight, stating that opening it would be an unprecedented breach of containment which would cause a K-Class scenario.

Dr. Clemente, being the lead researcher on the project, suggests an external lock be added to prevent such a scenario. This suggestion is followed with a limit of interaction including O5 approval. Both requests are granted.

RESULTS: A locking mechanism is added, select O5s being given the code. Further testing on SCP-5479 discontinued.
