Item #: SCP-XXXX
The pinning hammer
Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is kept in a 1m x 1 m x 50cm radiation proof containment unit at Site 76's electronic objects storage wing. The item must be secured via the chamber's installed pressure grips to prevent breaches caused by earthquakes or other events that could make the object move.
Experiments with SCP-XXXX under the first, second and third notch settings can only be performed under authorization of at least two level 3 researchers and the Site's Director. Experiments under the fourth setting can only be performed under direct approval of at least one O5 member. All testing must adhere to the Teumessean Fox Protocol1 before being proposed by any researcher for consideration.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an instrument reminiscent of a hammer, with a 30cm long, 5cm diameter handle, and a 18cm long head. the object weighs 10 kg, which is significantly heavier than an ordinary lead hammer of the same size. due to this, usage of the device during testing requires the user to grab its handle with both hands. assistance of personnel better fit for physical activities is recommended.
SCP-XXXX visually deviates from a typical hammer design in that it has several electronic components attached to the handle that are not needed to operate a physical tool. These additions include: an LED light panel on the side of the neck, two exposed transistors with their respective wiring going into the lower side of the head, and a metal control barrel knob with 5 notches, each one of them, except for the first one, which is presumed to be the "off" setting for the hammer, displaying a different symbol. The head emits a slight, non-lethal amount of radiation while in its inactive state, which increases in intensity with every setting of the hammer, the fourth setting requiring the use of radiation suits for anyone within 10 meters of the object during testing.
While in its "off" setting SCP-XXXX displays no anomalous properties besides its unusual weight and radiation emission. this setting must be kept while handling the object outside of testing and when being stored. When the notch is turned up to any of the subsequent stages, the device will produce a quick vibration, indicating successful change of settings. Activating the hammer and applying over 4000 N of force with the head to any object will cause said object (designated SCP-XXXX-1 through 4, according to the setting number) to become "pinned" in place, disregarding any previous momentum it had before in relation to the setting specified in the knob. The velocity and gravitational canceling of instances of SCP-XXXX-1 is permanent, making the instance impossible to move by any means. The object, however, is not rendered indestructible, and its destruction or dissembling will dissipate SCP-XXXX's effect. The specifics of every setting's anomalous effect is listed below.

  • First notch: SCP-XXXX-1 instances (produced with SCP-XXXX's first setting, represented with a small circle over the control knob) will become static in relation to the earth's orbit, seemingly making it move westward at a constant speed equivalent to the earth's rotation in the object's original latitude.
  • Second notch: SCP-XXXX-2 instances (produced with the second setting, represented with a dot inside a slightly bigger circle) will become static in relation to the solar system, exiting earth's orbit at around 29.78 km/s. Almost every recorded instance of SCP-XXXX-1 produced with this setting were destroyed while traversing the planet's atmosphere.
  • Third notch: SCP-XXXX-3 instances (produced with the third setting, represented with an oval shape with two spiral arms on each side) will become static in relation to the milky way galaxy, moving away from earth at a perceived velocity of around 230 km/s, and leaving the solar system in roughly 130 days (2200 to 3000 hours depending on the earth's position during activation of the SCP-XXXX-3 instance).
