Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5240 is to be kept in a secure location at all times. Only personnel with clearance 3 or higher are allowed to access SCP-5240's containment, anyone found in SCP-5240's containment without permitted access is to be shot on sight.
To prevent unguided use or breach of containment, SCP-5240 is to be locked in a steel container measuring 3 m x 3 m and kept in a high security storage locker at all times. Prior to Incident 5240-1, SCP-5240's storage locker is to be locked with a durable padlock with the code [DATA EXPUNGED].
Failure to do so may risk the life of any personnel attempting to access the contents. An electronic lock keeping the door shut is to be used in addition to more standard security measures (See Incident-5240-1)
Description: SCP-5240 is an ██████ brand wireless virtual reality headset, and is the most up to date model at the time of acquisition. SCP-5240 shows no signs of damage and does not appear to have ever been opened or tampered with.
When a subject uses SCP-5240, SCP-5240 shows no difference to other headsets of the same making for around 5-██ minutes of use, after this the subject will begin to undergo cardiac arrest and ultimately collapse after initial use, no known methods of CPR or defibrillation will restart the heart of a user of SCP-5240 and death is instantaneous.
Subject will remain in this state for a further ██ minutes before the subject's brain will begin to liquefy. No signs of computer virus or malicious code have been detected. After the brain completely liquefies, the subjects appearance will start to become distorted, and its flesh will become littered with lines of text, code, and numbers and the subject will become an instance of SCP-5240-2, then will begin to operate on an industrial level. It is believed that the liquid in which the brain sits and the distorted appearance of the subject, gives off the appearance of a virtual being.
SCP-5240-2 will begin to attack any personnel it can sense, it's methods of attack include Camouflage, speed, physical violence, teleportation and the ability to cloak itself and any nearby equipment in a white, green or purple energy. Methods of terminating SCP-5240-2 have included:

When SCP-5240 is turned off while on an instance of SCP-5240-2, SCP-5240 will begin to shut down and the instance of SCP-5240-2 will disintegrate into a white, green or purple powder. The only thing left over is SCP-5240 and a pile of desiccated brain matter.
In the case of a containment breach of either SCP-5240 or SCP-5240-2, all personnel are to evacuate the site and stay outside, this continues until the threat is terminated and SCP-5240 is returned to its containment.
Addendum: Incident 5240-1: On 19/10/201█, all personnel assigned to contain the breach of SCP-5240 were killed by an instance of SCP-5240-2. Casualties counted up to ██ including guards, researchers and test subjects.
The instance of SCP-5240-2 was created when Dr. Lamb, a member of the O5 Council, brought a new development of the ██████ ███ to test in his dorm. The ██████ ███ used by Dr. Lamb was proved to have the same effects as SCP-5240, further testing showed that SCP-5240 can alter the code of other devices in a radius of ███ m.
When testing the discovered effect of SCP-5240 on other types of electronics, it has been proved that other devices can experience the same effects as SCP-5240, and other types of interaction will create an instance of SCP-5240-2. To prevent this, extra security measures are to be made when handling any equipment that can create an instance of SCP-5240-2.
After testing, electrical objects like smartphones, televisions, radios, speakers and similar electronics and others unknown can be affected by SCP-5240, however, electrical objects with no visual or sound output are believed to divert the effect of SCP-5240 because of this an electrical padlock is to be placed on SCP-5240's containment.
