Item #: SCP-5XXX
Object Class: Safe Euclid
Note: Following event 5XXX-Oscar-1 (See report 5XXX-Ax2), SCP-5XXX has been reclassified to Euclid and moved to Site-19. Containment procedures have been updated accordingly.
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5XXX is to be kept in standard storage at Site-23.
SCP-5XXX is kept at Site-19 within a cubic analog safe of side lengths fifty (50) centimeters made from a Titanium-Nickel alloy the inside of which is to be lined with ceramic tiling. Atmospheric monitoring equipment measuring the temperature, atmospheric pressure, and pH of the inside of the safe is to be installed and observed by site staff for dramatic changes.
Description: SCP-5XXX is a pattern-altering, egg shaped stone of approximate dimensions fifteen (15) centimeters diameter by twenty-four (24) centimeters height.
Despite lacking any physical signs of biological or synthetic life the object demonstrates a tendency to act in self preservation via means of transmutation. On several occasions the object has been observed altering it's molecular structure in order to avoid damage directed towards it. How SCP-5XXX is able to react to outward stimulus without apparent sensory receptors or any form of nervous system is unknown.
When analyzed with a spectrogram, SCP-5XXX has been observed to emit faint, low frequency audio waves typically <0.5Hz spiking up to 3Hz during a transmutation. The current purpose of these is unknown but seveal hypotheses exist and are listed in report 5XXX-Ao1.
Addendum: Below is a list of the known materials SCP-5XXX has been observed rearranging itself into along with the circumstances surrounding each event.
| Date | Material | Observer | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| July 22, 1978 | Polybutadiene (Zectron) | Alfonso Grant | The owner of SCP-5XXX who initially caught the attention of the foundation and led to its acquisition discovered its anomalous effects when he accidently knocked the object off his table while working. Mr. Grant described SCP-5XXX changing before his eyes into a rubbery like substance before hitting the stone tiles of the floor, and bouncing a few times before reverting to its initial material. |
| October 4, 2007 | Hydrogen Chloride (Approx -114°C) | Dr. Gabbro | During a test of SCP-5XXX's durability, the object was struck with a standard iron carpenter's hammer. Moments prior to impact SCP-5XXX altered its structure to that of a freezing cold crystalline makeup. Upon contacting SCP-5XXX the hammer suffered rapid corrosion and promptly disintegrated leaving only the wooden handle. After a few seconds, SCP-5XXX reverted back to its initial form. |
| January 17, 2008 | Neutronium | Dr. Perido | It was hypothesized that SCP-XXXX could be used to test the resilience of SCP-5XXX. Upon opening the safe to retrieve SCP-5XXX, it altered itself to a dark hyper-dense material which proved completely impossible to move. Subsequent tests with the same goal all ended the same way. The test was eventually scrapped. |
| February 11, 2008 | Auridium-Graphene, ██████-Silica | Dr. Perido | See report 5XXX-Ax2 |
